For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Lol, were you busy sitting by your tree in a nice walled garden with charming food?

ahundredtimes · 16/02/2008 22:30

YES. On a swing in the apple tree.

That's tough about DS1. Have you a Senco person at school you've spoken to? It is difficult to get support for the Dys's I think. You could look into going to the Dyslexia Institute, now called Dyslexia Action - there is probably one in Norwich, but that requires £ annoyingly.

BBBee · 16/02/2008 22:30

ite wrong aga

hello

BBBee · 16/02/2008 22:32

comput probs.

carrot - who have you spoken to? Is he classed as 'school action'? iep? statment?

MrsCarrot · 16/02/2008 22:32

Yes, there is one, someone recommended it to me the other day. We will do it privately I think. His sleep hasn't been as bad though he gets tense and stressed still. He does a lot of sport and that helps.

ahundredtimes · 16/02/2008 22:32

Oh hello BBee. How nice.

ahundredtimes · 16/02/2008 22:34

Yes, it is stressful for them I think. It's good he does sport, or certainly good to have things you are good at.

BBBee · 16/02/2008 22:34

gp cannot refer to ed psych - will have to be senco - but usually have to have done other interventions first.

what signs?

ahundredtimes · 16/02/2008 22:35

Oh god BBee you are going to be SO sought after on MN you know.

BBBee · 16/02/2008 22:35

MrsCarrot · 16/02/2008 22:36

yes, but why can't the gp if the school aren't doing anything? They are crap.

He's had IEPs all through school but at this one i never see them. I've been asking for it since September

ahundredtimes · 16/02/2008 22:36

When you get to 'handwriting problems' can we have a chat? It will be fitting to have that chat if your keyboard is all drunk and out of control like ds2's handwriting.

BBBee · 16/02/2008 22:37

ha ha see what I amen - computer not happy!

lovely to see you too 100/. went to school quiz last week and thouht ofd you. won but only becaused i was on team with x-uni challenge bloke.

ahundredtimes · 16/02/2008 22:37

MrsC - have you met with Senco?

MrsCarrot · 16/02/2008 22:39

first school thought he was dslexic

they brought in someone who thought he had 'tendencies' but to hold off diagnosis for now then since he went to middle school, he sort of struggles at the bottom of the classs even though he is bright but as he muddles along they think thats ok and he has worked so hard now he can just about manage iyswim. But he gets really stressed.

BBBee · 16/02/2008 22:40

okaystill cannot requeemen

BBBee · 16/02/2008 22:41

wait

MrsCarrot · 16/02/2008 22:41

no, 100x, he goes to her for extra literacy I think but she seems rubbish

whothehellisthis · 16/02/2008 22:42

i am new

whothehellisthis · 16/02/2008 22:43

who does extra literac?

are there goals and timescales?

whothehellisthis · 16/02/2008 22:44

is there a plan?

I think you may need to go in and ask some questions.

you may need to express exaggerate the stress element.

whothehellisthis · 16/02/2008 22:45

do you think he is happy?

does he want to go to school?

ahundredtimes · 16/02/2008 22:45

Go talk to her MrsC. Ring up and make an appointment - she might not know much because she is a co-ordinator, not a person who can make a diagnosis. But I do think early intervention is important, otherwise their confidence goes and it just gets harder and harder.

It might be worth contacting Dyslexia Action too, for an assessment. I know lots of people who have taken their dc's along for specialized help.

My experience has been that you have to take charge and be a PITA because you think somebody is going to pitch up and say 'This is what we do about this' - and they don't.

TooTicky · 16/02/2008 22:46

That sounds tough MrsC. Glad the sport helps but the school should be ashamed. Come and live here.
