How often do you poo?

Blunt question. I’ve always had kinda sluggish bowels but in menopause they seem to have gone into a state of inertia. My diet has always been good but I’ve tried to make it even better recently to improve things, lots of water and more fruit, but to no avail. Got doc appointment to check things out but was curious. Not really a topic I feel I can raise over a cuppa, hence posting on here

As soon as I have my first coffee of the day, every day.
If one day nothing comes out/I don't have the urge.... panic sets in and I drink as much water and eat as much fruit and veg as possible to get things moving.
Spent a lot of my teen years with horrendous constipation, I'm very aware of and careful with my poo routine now!

@CrazyBiscuits

I take two of these just before I go to sleep. I then generally 'go' easily the next morning.

Funnily enough, I started taking these on the recommendation of my Migraine specialist. I was taking a new migraine preventative drug which had a possible side-effect of constipation, so the doctor recommended I take magnesium to counteract this.

The Migraine drug worked, and cut my migraines considerably and I'm no longer on the drug. But I kept up the habit of taking the magnesium as I find it does help.

Every morning, can sometimes have gone 3x before I leave the house but then I’m usually good for the day. That is also a touch of IBS though

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 30/01/2023 23:37

Can be anything from once in a week to 20 times in one day. That's the joy of inflammatory bowel disease!

Rebel2023 · 30/01/2023 23:37

Sometimes once or twice a day (more likely around my period)
Then maybe not for a day or so
I do take dihydrocodiene daily but doesn't seem to affect me too much!

Cannottryasp00 · 30/01/2023 23:38

I always poo as soon as I wake up so anytime from 7-9 . I occasionally poo about 5-6 pm as well .Depends on food and fluid intake. I work in a care home and the elderly are more prone to problems and it can be a massive problem if they are constipated.

Thank you. That's so helpful. I discovered the magnesium recommendation on an austrailian migraine website!(I'm in the uk) as I'm desperately trying to find a way to cope with migraines but just didn't know which one to go for. Visiting GP soon but dreading which medication will be recommended as not keen on the sude effects of so many of them!

Sorry OP, didn't mean to hijack you thread! 😃

Every other day but if I eat junk food then more

On a bad day, 5 times before I go to work, then 3-4 more times through the day. On a good day, 4-5 times a day.

Goodness do you have IBS? Or some condition? Up to 10 poos a day seems extreme!

RoseMartha · 30/01/2023 23:57

Varies sometimes every day sometimes every other unless I go on holiday (in uk), and then I end up having to use a laxative as it is like my body refuses to poo. After I have pooed once it is okay. I can get to the Wednesday and not been since the Friday before, this happens every time i go away for a week. I only go away once a year max.

WedonttalkaboutMaureen · 31/01/2023 00:02

Usually once a day, morning.

I take Glyconate to aid sleep. Looks like citrate is used as a laxative

3 times a day

Icecreamandapplepie · 31/01/2023 00:05

3 weeks of the month, struggle to go more than once a week without some meds.
1 week of the month- once or twice a day.

When we went to the carribean a few years ago, I went once a day, it was amazing! Less stress, more exercise (swimming?), less processed foods? I also didn't fancy any of the deserts so gave up sugar for the fortnight.

I need to work on this but never seem to have the time, and with 3 small children my lifestyle isn't that healthy..

Boopydoo · 31/01/2023 00:06

wonderwish · 30/01/2023 19:46

@boobydoo I had the gut test to rule out some issues I have was having in my overall health.

The test showed really high antibodies to gluten - which are actually quite dangerous long term. I also have leaky gut, gut dysbiosis and a really inflamed gut. I initially cut out dairy and gluten but it was a bit much, so reintroduced dairy.

I can tell within hours if I have had gluten, as I will stop going to the loo. I have never had any other indicators gluten was as issue for me - it's definitely important to listen to your own body with these things.

I hope to have a better retest in a few months to see if things have settled.

I had no help from Doctors, I had a feeling something I was eating was making me ill, tired really bad eczema, and I mean really bad to the point I was hospitalised with it back in 1998. Eventually I was diagnosed with an actual wheat allergy so I now avoid both. No one made a connection and wouldn't celiac test me to rule that out as my symptoms were 'wrong'. It was an infuriating time of me saying something wrong and them saying no you're fine! Eventually the wheat allergy was found in skin prick testing with dermatology, massive reaction! Then they decided they wanted to test for celiac disease but I'd been wheat and gluten free for years and there's no way I am going back to eating both so they can test me for celiac disease!

I understand Doctors listen more now than they did back in the 2000s, it seemed I was just expected to put up with crippling eczema all over my body and being completely wiped out all the time.
Tiny little outbreaks nowadays, nothing major, just the odd bits now and again, my skin is 200% better than it's ever been. Until of course I consume a tiny amount of wheat or gluten, then it flares on face neck and scalp and is on fire for at least a week and I can sleep 24 hours away no problem.

Yep. I’m joining the club . Currently flaring Aswell and it’s pants.

frenchfancy81 · 31/01/2023 00:35

2 to 4 times a day

verdantverdure · 31/01/2023 00:37

Three times a day unless I'm ill. It's the first thing I do on waking.

GallantGus · 31/01/2023 00:51

Bit late with this.

Don’t feed the (poo) troll.

CrunchyCarrot · 31/01/2023 01:07

what magnesium supplements is anyone taking please?

I take Magnesium malate. The citrate form gives me the runs. If I can't get malate then I take the glycinate one. Those two seem to work best for me, I take them for leg cramps and general health benefits.

VoluptuaGoodshag · 31/01/2023 07:43

I try taking the Voost Magnesium with a glass of water at night. It was for menopause symptoms. Suffered with hormonal migraines for years. Tried everything but had never heard of the magnesium as a fixer for that nor for constipation.

Yes, it’s stress related IBS. I think I’d rather have that than constipation though!

24hoursfromtulsa · 31/01/2023 09:03

@CrazyBiscuits

I don't want to hijack this thread but if you have chronic migraine then PM me and I'll tell you what worked for me. I've gone from an average of 15 migraines a month to 3, and the ones I do get are a LOT milder.

Try taking Symprove daily for 12+ weeks. Fixed my stress related IBS completely.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 31/01/2023 13:53

5 minutes after my morning coffee guaranteed whatever time I drink it 🤷‍♀️
