How often do you poo?

Blunt question. I’ve always had kinda sluggish bowels but in menopause they seem to have gone into a state of inertia. My diet has always been good but I’ve tried to make it even better recently to improve things, lots of water and more fruit, but to no avail. Got doc appointment to check things out but was curious. Not really a topic I feel I can raise over a cuppa, hence posting on here

I had never appreciated many people go more than once a day.

Crazymadchickenlady · 30/01/2023 09:16

About 4 or more times a day which I’m not sure is normal either!

I'm glad it's not just me!

SmileWithADimple · 30/01/2023 22:20

Usually once a day, sometimes I'll have a day with no poo. No particular time of day.

Stickykidney · 30/01/2023 22:26

Once or twice a day unless I have eggs in which case bad news! Just recently worked that one out..
Anyone else facinated by this and how it can affect your health I watched know your sh!t on channel 4 od and it was amazing!!! All different habits, problems, solutions... One girl went every three weeks! Kind of like embarrassing bodies they take the person's bowel habit and fix it. Loved it!

Take magnesium before bed, works a treat!

How near to bedtime do you have to take it and also which one do you take? Strangely enough today I've been looking into taking this for migraine but this may be a bonus!

Losingmymind85 · 30/01/2023 22:28

Once, maybe twice a week.
Digestive system is clearly fucked.

Todaynotalways · 30/01/2023 22:37

Most mornings before my shower, and some evenings before bed.

Rarely outside of those two times.

Mrsbadger77 · 30/01/2023 22:37

If you are keen to get things shifting it's really fibre and probiotics that will help. There are lots of other sources of fibre as well as fruit that you need to include in your diet eg nuts, seeds, pulses. I'm reading a fab book about gut health and the microbiome called Food for Life by Tim Spector, which I would recommend. Also fermented foods are good eg kimchi, kombucha , miso.

Bowsbellssx · 30/01/2023 22:38

3 times a day

Heathcliff27 · 30/01/2023 22:42

Once a week at best, this has always been my "normal". i'm never constipated and eat plenty fruit and veg.

Blankspace4 · 30/01/2023 22:43

Generally once a day, in the morning, usually after coffee, but if I’ve been drinking or eating takeaway the night before sometimes before the coffee - it’s as if my body just wants to get rid of the crap in my body! I like being in a rhythm and I feel weird if anything throws it off like travel or medication.

Strangely though, when I was on codiene for a while, rather than it constipating me it would make me want to go, in the same way as coffee, when I took a dose?! Anyone else experienced that?

headache · 30/01/2023 22:44

We had a discussion about this at work and I was shocked that two people only go once a week and they were shocked I go at least once a day maybe twice. I always go first thing in the morning and maybe after dinner. I can’t imagine having a weeks worth of poo inside you it must hurt

daemonologie · 30/01/2023 22:45

Normal sober diet once every five days. But if I drink alcohol on any day I have a bowel movement the next day. Weirdly.

PleaseCleanTheWholeToilet · 30/01/2023 22:46

3-5 times a day

When im on my period 5- 7 times
is ‘my’ normal

chronictonic · 30/01/2023 22:48

Every morning, pretty much within 5 mins of waking up.. and often again after a cup of tea... and recently again in the afternoon since taking Magnesium regularly.

And if I eat a lot of pulses... even more!

Emmamoo89 · 30/01/2023 22:51

Once a day after a cuppa. Sometimes twice. Can skip a day sometimes tho

Oh yes, forgot thar, depends where I am in my cycle, and that affect quality as well as frequency..

CrunchyCarrot · 30/01/2023 22:52

Normally once a day but sometimes go a day without. This is a huge improvement on my childhood/teen years when I had a lot of trouble with constipation. I found dietary modifications helped, particularly yoghurt and having enough fibre. Menopause didn't affect this but having hypothyroidism definitely slows things down.

MaryJean87 · 30/01/2023 22:55

Twice a day.

Wednesdayschildhasstubbedhertoe · 30/01/2023 22:57

Once a day, a couple of hours after my first coffee or caffeine of the day

Chesneyhawkes1 · 30/01/2023 22:58

Used to once a day. Since radiotherapy to the pelvic area 3 - 4 times a day.

It was 6 plus at first. So glad it settled down.

goingback · 30/01/2023 23:04

go once a day , but very slow and hard to start then a lot of soft poo , so always before shower to get a good clean. Have lots of stomach issues getting investigated

VoluptuaGoodshag · 30/01/2023 23:07

Lordy, I genuinely didn’t know it was common to go several times a day! Jeez I must be really sluggish. Is it a female thing?

i know guys tend to be regular. The guys in my office had regular daily slots, G went around 1030 and C at 2pm. They always took the newspaper

I always used to be 2-3 times a week, at most. Then I had a gut map test, which showed I was severely reacting to gluten (never knew!). I quit gluten and now go daily. Sometimes 2-3 times a day.

If I have a cheeky but of gluten, it'll back me up for days 🥴

If you react to Bloom please don't have a cheeky bit of gluten or any other bit of gluten. It can cause horrendous problems. Read up on refractory coeliac disease ataxia another gluten related diseases. If you've been diagnosed with a problem please stick to the diet

Sorry, I went gluten not Bloom. Using speech to text and it quite often gets confused.
