How often do you poo?

Blunt question. I’ve always had kinda sluggish bowels but in menopause they seem to have gone into a state of inertia. My diet has always been good but I’ve tried to make it even better recently to improve things, lots of water and more fruit, but to no avail. Got doc appointment to check things out but was curious. Not really a topic I feel I can raise over a cuppa, hence posting on here

When I wake up, just before I go to bed and, if I have a heavy lunch, once in the afternoon too.

Unless my IBS kicks off of course in which case it can be many, many times in about an hour, then nothing for a couple of days!

JamSandle · 30/01/2023 17:37

About three times a day.

namechanged221 · 30/01/2023 17:41

Once or twice in the morning when I wake up then usually again later on in the day.
Not sure that's normal but it's the burn for me. .

TheChosenTwo · 30/01/2023 17:45

I have no idea! I just go when I need to go, never realised that outside of dh going once a day (morning before shower for anyone who’s curious 😂) had a set poo time! Always thought he was the weird one as he just always needs to go at the same time every day.
I might not go for 2 or 3 days then 5 times in one day and once a day for a few days - a mix of any and all of those. Just how I’ve always been.

DoNutSweatTheSmallStuff · 30/01/2023 17:49

Probably once a day on average.

Pushkinia · 30/01/2023 17:51

On a bad day, 5 times before I go to work, then 3-4 more times through the day. On a good day, 4-5 times a day.

I always used to be 2-3 times a week, at most. Then I had a gut map test, which showed I was severely reacting to gluten (never knew!). I quit gluten and now go daily. Sometimes 2-3 times a day.

If I have a cheeky but of gluten, it'll back me up for days 🥴

I've never met anyone else that got constipated by gluten! I spent years trying to convince the doctors that gluten was affecting me. Went on a gluten free diet many years ago and suddenly a once day habit was born, until that time I didn't realise having a dump was so easy and no more continuous wasted trips to the bathroom where I could read half a novel and still nothing.

wonderwish · 30/01/2023 19:46

@boobydoo I had the gut test to rule out some issues I have was having in my overall health.

The test showed really high antibodies to gluten - which are actually quite dangerous long term. I also have leaky gut, gut dysbiosis and a really inflamed gut. I initially cut out dairy and gluten but it was a bit much, so reintroduced dairy.

I can tell within hours if I have had gluten, as I will stop going to the loo. I have never had any other indicators gluten was as issue for me - it's definitely important to listen to your own body with these things.

I hope to have a better retest in a few months to see if things have settled.

Runaround50 · 30/01/2023 21:41

Once a day, usually morning after breakfast, before work. If I don't go then, my day is wrecked.

LuluBlakey1 · 30/01/2023 21:43

Most days.

SandraCumin · 30/01/2023 21:44

I try to go every day if I can but sometimes I skip a day for whatever reason.

LubaLuca · 30/01/2023 21:44

Every other day usually.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 30/01/2023 21:45

2 maybe 3 times a day . 2 is very normal for me
The 3rd time I question what I've eaten or drank especially if it goes over a few days

Crumpetdisappointment · 30/01/2023 21:46

unless i have no time, then every morning.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 30/01/2023 21:47

If I've drank coffee then within 15 minutes of drinking a cup of it . Coffee r

Really sets me off . That's why I don't drink it

Curriedpeanuts · 30/01/2023 21:48

The main event is just after 10 am every day, which is awkward as that's when lots of meetings start!
And then maybe again a bit later.

greenacrylicpaint · 30/01/2023 21:54

feeling full without obvious reason and change in bowel habits are symptoms of ovarian cancer.

go and see your gp

cobblers123 · 30/01/2023 21:58

I like to go once in the morning and then that's it until the next day like I used to.

For about the last 15 years, it varies all over the place and often can be as much as four or five times a day.

Today it was once but tomorrow it might be at least twice or more. I've even had to get up early hours of the morning to go a couple of times in the past which was an annoying surprise.

I've only ever had constipation when on medication but a large amount of fruit daily shoved everything through, rather too rapidly at times too.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 30/01/2023 22:00

Usually daily but sometimes I miss a day and sometimes I go twice. Probably go twice more often than I miss a day so maybe 8-9 times a week on average, although I don’t really keep count.

pawprintseverywhere · 30/01/2023 22:02

Soon as I sip my first coffee

Hersetta427 · 30/01/2023 22:05

Twice a week (Tuesdays and Saturdays). I have had slow bowels for years and had to take lactulose / movido to go every 7-10 days. Now take none of those and it was settled on twice weekly.

Stomacharmeleon · 30/01/2023 22:09

15-20 times a day but I do have crohns, short bowel and dumping syndrome.
Also aided by my ability to go 'on the job' as I have a bag :) thank god!

Eatentoomanyroses · 30/01/2023 22:11

Once a day. If I have anything fatty or rich I’ll go more.

ADHDQueen · 30/01/2023 22:14

Once a week, sometimes less. I have always been constipated, but am on lots of constipating meds now so need "help" to go. I've been in hospital for this more than once.
