ZOE NUTRITION NEW THREAD- anyone want to join in?

LisaLovedUp · 20/11/2022 08:37

I've started a new thread as my previous one was titled for techie stuff.
If anyone is fairly new to this please join in and we can share!

I am now on Day 4. All tests done and now recording my food each day. It takes me ages as my phone is slow (needs replacing) and some things I eat aren't listed (it relies a lot on packaged foods.)

eg yesterday I made a veggie curry and the only options were branded readymade ones so I just had to pick one I felt was close enough, rather than itemise every veggie in the one I made.

I noticed this as some 'negative' feedback on another platform.

Has everyone/anyone done the advanced health questionnaire? I started it but gave up. I felt it was more for their data gathering (which is fine to an extent) but also very intrusive and I didn't want to give my personal medical history when it may not be 100% safe from hackers.

I'm going to feedback on this to them.

My blood sugar readings so far are in the 4 - 5.4 range mainly although on a couple of mornings it was below 4. The highest was 7.3 after a sweet dessert ( a one-off for me - out with friends) plus ice cream.

Any tips from more experienced users welcome!

@Ohyeahwaitaminute Id definitely be asking for another monitor. Bless you! x

towardsexperience · 18/04/2023 06:10

@reredrobin75 I wondered about the recipe thing, which makes sense now. I plan to keep logging as I have so I don't lose the mojo of logging. If I stop for even half a day, I forget!

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 18/04/2023 07:37

@redrobin75 and @towardsexperience
I have indeed asked for a new monitor, but they are saying that it’s just the software that needs adjusting.

My BGM will only recognise me if I tap in my (own) details and will not recognise me if I tap in the Zoe details. Ergo they cannot track my blood sugar.

Hence my Sense of Humour failure. 😤🤬😡

Madcats · 18/04/2023 12:02

Oh another thing that took me days to notice (or maybe it isn't functional in the first fortnight) is that you can scroll back and forwards through the days (touch the "Today" on the top left corner).

I've just started Zoe 202.

Thank you so much for your replies, I found the challenge library 🎉

Glad to hear I don’t have to start in the 4 week period. I could do with a good chunk of time to read through all the leaflets/ app info anyway so I reckon I’ll start after my holiday 😊 I only signed up to the 1 month plan, not sure if that was a good idea but I couldn’t justify paying more when I don’t really know what I’m getting - when does the one month start? Is it when the results are back? And would any one recommend extending or is a month enough?

I did the one month also, but referred some friends also. If you have had referrals that got you a free month you pay the day you get your test results the 59.99 for the one month. then the referral months kick in, and then you will be charged a further 59.99 recurring until you tell them to cancel. I spoke to customer care about all this about a month or so ago. Most said 1 month is plenty, but screenshot or journal your scores, you will lose them once you no longer pay.

Reereeree · 19/04/2023 09:57

@towardsexperience oh wow, thanks for the tip. So once the month is up, I no longer have access to the app? (Are we talking Zoe or Libre app? I’m confused about the two, I haven’t downloaded the Libre yet)

Madcats · 19/04/2023 10:36

The Libre app is designed for diabetics with the tracker to monitor their blood glucose levels.

Zoe gives you a login for it (don't make up your own) so that the researchers can access the results to see what happens when you eat the yucky muffins on the test day. I'm not convinced that they look at what is going on after that day? The voluminous report didn't refer to it.

When you have the time to experiment it is helpful to tackle these first thing (on an empty stomach) and then not eat for a couple of hours.

Zoe doesn't seem to like me eating bread/rice/pasta/oats.... it's veg, cheese and nuts for me!

I have a fair few recipes that I more or less use each month. With hindsight I probably should have just paid a 1 month sub and put them all into Zoe to see how they score (and grabbed screenshots). I tend to scan my own raw ingredients too as I find that scores for some basic items vary quite a bit.

There is a bit of AI going on during the day. After a virtuous breakfast and lunch the app turned its nose up at the burger I had for supper (telling me I had eaten plenty of fat that day).

the zoe apps food scores yes. you will have one month to see the scores and then on the first day of the next 30 days they will take another payment continuing like a subscription. you have to contact them to cancel that. once the 2 weeks of the libre is up, thats it they have recieved all the need to generate blood sugar scores from what I understand. Dont download the libre till your ready and be sure to use they details that they give you. Not your own email.

If you buy a CGM in the future, you will need to use your own details at that point. I plan on trying that once my scores are in.

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 19/04/2023 23:05

Well I’ve received my second set of muffins 😱 but they cannot get my Glucose monitor to ‘speak’ to anything… still. It’s been nearly a week.

I am getting responses from the chat once or twice a day and have sent them countless screenshots of my Zoe log in details, my Libre log in details. Again…and again.

The saga continues while my muffins sit in the freezer.

towardsexperience · 20/04/2023 06:11

@Ohyeahwaitaminute oh gosh. I know that when I had a 5 day wait for my response the other day they said they had had 3x as many chat requests than typical. Then we received that message saying testing should be 1-2 day response time etc. I hope they can get it sorted for you. x

Madcats · 20/04/2023 08:05

I waited a week to start, but I think I was part of a big wave of new starters. I suspect that they are getting lots of queries about food scores from my cohort.

The cats jumped on me half-way through the night so I dozed through a World Service programme about biology/personalised diets.

I think it is going to become quite a competitive market within a couple of years.

Here is a link to the programme I was talking about https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3ct4v6k

oooh fabulous. I know what we are watching tonight lol!

towardsexperience · 20/04/2023 19:49

Listening to* haha not watching 😂

HouseofRisk · 24/04/2023 07:47

Hi, I have spent the past day reading through all 18 pages of posts in this thread - brilliant information, thanks everyone!

I put my BGM on yesterday and have successfully connected to the app using the Zoe user name and password, yay! I will be having my muffins today and doing my blood test (🤞🏻).

I do have some questions on logging foods though. Where do I do this? I can’t seem to see anywhere to log? Do I log using the notes against each scan in the libre app or somewhere (that I can’t seem to find) in the Zoe app?

Also, when do you scan after eating something to see it’s impact on your blood sugar? Directly after eating or 10 min wait or 2 hours wait?

Thanks in advance!

redrobin75 · 24/04/2023 08:10

@HouseofRisk , follow the instructions for today, once you have done the blood test you can eat what you want and the option to add food with the scanning symbol should appear. At the moment you can't eat any other food.

Best to remember
Have a warm hand for the blood test
Scan as much as your want - I had a libre 2 so had to scan every 8 hours but did more.
The challenges are optional and just for you not your results
The food you log until you get your results won't give you a score

The Facebook group - Zoe nutrition chat unofficial - is really active with posts added all the time

Best of luck!

redrobin75 · 24/04/2023 08:11

Also to add I logged exercise in the libre app but that now seems ages ago. The Zoe programme doesn't take exercise into account re scoring or what to eat.

HouseofRisk · 24/04/2023 11:38

@redrobin75 thanks so much that’s really helpful. I have sent a request to join the FB group too. 😀

BusyBeeBB · 25/04/2023 17:29

An out there question, but posting in case anyone is on the same situation... I've just been prescribed Ozempic. I think I want to wait until the Zoe study, as I guess it would interfere with the results, I'm signed up for June.
Anyone taking Oz or metformin while on Zoe? I still want to hold up to the thought that I would be able to control my glucose naturally if I learn more about how my body works!

Try Zoe first. But take it seriously - if your diet is rubbish now / lots of highly processed food, then that needs to change.

With Ozempic you eat less, with Zoe you eat differently.

You have to be on Ozempic for life according to the scientist who led the study on it. You also follow the Zoe recommendations for life - but once you've got the hang of it then all you pay out for is your food.

Bucks2015 · 26/04/2023 18:51

Hello - I started a few days ago. Today I’ve had lots of really low readings 3.2-3.8 fairly frequently. Has anyone else had this? I asked on the Facebook group and some people said they had due to malfunctions. Mine is going up after eating though which indicates it’s working as it is responding to food intake. Before today I had a very small number of low readings in the day (a bit more overnight). It’s making me worry a bit - I do feel a bit fuzzy headed but that could also be anxiety about the readings!

Madcats · 27/04/2023 08:51

I had a Libre 3 (continuous monitoring) and did have 3% just below 3.9 (typically between midnight and 6am).

Most of my readings were between 4.5-6 over the fortnight.

If you are anxious, maybe show your readings to a pharmacist.

HouseofRisk · 27/04/2023 09:02

Yes, me too, same as you both. I do have some gaps in recordings in places too, where there is no data. Couple overnight mainly. I am on day 4. Like @Bucks2015, I feel like it’s monitoring ok, as the fluctuations take place after eating and increase, as you might expect after eating bananas for example. I’ve had no readings above 7.2 yet at all and have gone down overnight to 3.2, into the red. Interesting experience anyway!

Bucks2015 · 27/04/2023 11:19

Thanks - spoke to online GP last night and they want me to do a blood test. Getting one is another thing! Hopefully it’s nothing sinister and just normal for me. Went down to 3.1 at about 11 last night!
