Are 5 foot 7 women usually skinny?

I am 5 foot 7 and have always struggled to keep weight on. I’m not at all meaning this as a humble brag at all. People say it’s a good problem to have but I disagree. I’ve always wanted to look bigger and I have always felt quite boyish and unfeminine and I’ve had several miscarriages for which sometimes I blame myself for wondering if I don’t have enough body fat.

I don’t have a huge drive for food so if I ate according to my appetite I’d be just over 8 stone.

At 30 I decided enough was enough and I was too skinny for my age and started eating 3 square meals a day and snacks between meals. I got to 9 stone, my highest weight ever which is a big achievement for me as it never usually stays on.

I don’t look much different though 😂. People still tell me “you’re too skinny” despite me now having a very healthy BMO. Still look skinny IMO versus slim. I have long arms and legs which accentuates this I think.

So for ladies around my height. Do you think it’s hard to not look lanky and skinny at this height or taller? At what weight do you think you stop looking lanky start looking normal?

Thank you

I'm 5ft7 and 16stone. I look healthiest at 10.5-11stone and have only been below that weight with bad morning sickness.

However my dad is similar to you... 5ft6 and 9stone. He's always been like that and eats more than me....

CRbear · 27/10/2022 19:49

I’d love that problem! But I know, grass is always greener. I’m 5ft7 and I looked gaunt at 9st7. 10st7 - 11st is my ideal personally. No where near that either though haha! Hope you can find some love for yourself as you are!

CRbear · 27/10/2022 19:50

Snap @PuttingDownRoots 🙈

digestivebiscu1t · 27/10/2022 19:51

I'm 5' 7. I weigh 10 and a half stone and am not overweight. Any more than that and I feel uncomfortable, ideally I'd like to be 10 stone.

When I was about 17 and going through a silly phase I weighed around 9st 2 and that was the lightest I could ever get to without skipping meals.

So i do think you're on the light side for that height. Then again if you're eating 3 meals a days plus snacks, presumably you have a speedier metabolism or something!

Sorry to hear about your mcs btw.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 27/10/2022 19:52

Lol no.

ElbowsandArses · 27/10/2022 19:52

Not sure it’s related to height. I’m 5 7 and 12 stone and struggle to keep my weight down at 12 stone. I’m a size 16, active (running weights yoga), eat healthily but am hungry if I don’t eat properly. I am booby and curvy but not really overweight but it’s work. Like anything else think it’s the luck of the draw: even when eating healthily we have a set weight/appetite mechanism and some are set higher than others. Nothing to do with height.

LimitIsUp · 27/10/2022 19:53

This one isn't Grin

JaffavsCookie · 27/10/2022 19:53

What a ridiculous OP, women of 5’7” and bigger come in all shapes and sizes, have you really not noticed that 😳

Skelligsfeathers · 27/10/2022 19:54

I am 5 foot 11 and look like a shed. I feel like the whole is a4 and i am a3.
I would love to be 5 7 and lanky. Absolutely love it.

olympicsrock · 27/10/2022 19:54

This is a daft post…. I’m 5’7” and size 18. There will be fat and thin people at evey height

FlowerArranger · 27/10/2022 19:54

Stop obsessing about your weight and start exercising with serious weights..... would be my suggestion. Make sure you eat enough lean protein and lots of vegetables.

Build some muscles! Your future menopausal self will thank you.

Winceybincey · 27/10/2022 19:55

Sounds like you can’t keep weight on because you’re not eating properly, rather than because of your height.

TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet · 27/10/2022 19:55

'Lanky'? 5'7 really isn't that tall! And of course people can be overweight at any height, but you knew that.

Ogonek · 27/10/2022 19:56

I’m 5'7 and the lightest I’ve ever been in my adult life was 8 stone 12…..I had a very difficult relationship with food after being overweight as a child, and I’d starved myself into thinness.

I struggled for years to stay at around 9 stone. Now I look back and realise how thin I was - too thin, and very unhappy. Around 10.5 stone was best for me. I weigh more than that now, though!

grafittiartist · 27/10/2022 19:57

This one isnt either!!

Regularsizedrudy · 27/10/2022 19:58

Yes every 5’7 woman is skinny. As soon as they get over 9 stone they Explode into a cloud of dust and disappear so be careful

LynneBenfield · 27/10/2022 19:58

I’m sorry for your fertility struggles, @Amiagrinchh. Flowers

5’7” is just a height. It gives no indication of that person’s diet, lifestyle, health, cultural factors, genetics, build or otherwise.

ParsnipsAndPies · 27/10/2022 20:00

For the love of God, just when you think you've read it all on here - "I'm 5'7" and skinny, does that mean all women my height are skinny?" No, no it doesn't. Neither does being 5'7" and having brown hair mean that all women of 5'7" have brown hair.

StopFeckingFaffing · 27/10/2022 20:01

I know people who are 5'7" who range from being very underweight up to being very overweight, same as people I know who are much shorter and much taller!

I agree that if you are tall (not that I would particularly class 5'7" as tall tbh) and leggy then you are more likely to look lanky than someone who is 5'1" but surely you don't need MN to tell you that 😅

crackofdoom · 27/10/2022 20:02

I'm 5'7 with big tits, massive arse and, er...rather a wobbly bit in between 😬. I have a massive appetite and have to work pretty hard to keep to under about 10 stone 10. Would love to be 10 stone, but my body seems to refuse to go under about 10 stone 5, no matter what I do.

Sandcastlesinthesky · 27/10/2022 20:03

I’m 5ft 10 and nearly 13st. I look pretty slim at 12stone but I haven’t been that weight for three years now. I keep trying

Cotswoldmama · 27/10/2022 20:03

I guess being taller makes your slimness more obvious. But I would say your slimness is probably genetics not because your taller. I'm 5ft5 and really slim. I don't really like being slim and like you I remember being paranoid that because I was slim it would be hard to conceive. So I got an app to gain weight! I gained half a stone in about 5 months and I honestly had to eat 3000 calories a day! I managed to get to 7 and a half stone. I conceived really quickly. With my second I was back to my usual 7 stone (couldn't be arsed to keep up with trying to eat 3000 calories and was too busy with my 1st) and conceived quickly again. For some people they just are slim and that's their normal/healthy.

lannistunut · 27/10/2022 20:05

Yes all women who are 5'7'' are skinny. This is well known. However much you eat you will never get fatter. This only applies if exactly 5'7".
