Some say tooth pain is one of the worst pains to have.

What would you say the worst pain is you’ve experienced?

I had a bad cycling accident where I needed plastic surgery on my face due to the trauma. The worst part was when they had to remove the dirt from the road from my chin by rubbing it with a plastic brush. My chin was literally black from when my face hit the road.

I banged my finger-tip. It wasn't even broken, just bruised, but I was fainting from the pain. I have given birth both vaginally without pain-relief and also had an emergency cesarean, and both could not compare to my finger-tip. No idea why.

I have this issue too. Do you have Raynauds as it can be related to that.

degsydoodoos · 04/10/2022 13:41

Frozen shoulder! 😖Never known pain like it, and I say that as someone who's given birth to 3 large babies on little pain relief!

Bouledeneige · 04/10/2022 13:43

Acute cholecystitis - inflamed gall bladder (has it removed thank god after 72 hours of throwing up).

Hopelessacademic · 04/10/2022 13:43

Dislocated kneecap
Tied with - Back pain during pregnancy with DD (combo of pelvice girdle/sacroiliac joint). At one point I lay down flat on floor thinking it might help, and couldn't get up, had to call DH to come and help me but couldn't even move. Also got stuck halfway down the stairs because it hurt too much.

I'm surprised that more people haven't said childbirth! That makes me hopeful for thinking about a VBAC!

Worst by far were the two times I cut the surface of my eye. I only see out of one eye so each time didn’t see the object coming in time to close my eye.

Second worst was tooth pain. My dentist wasn’t able to numb the area enough to do any dental work. It hurt for a year then eased off enough for the dentist to drill it out and fill.

Third was my first labour as it was induced and happened very quickly.

Fourth was gallstones and I was in so much pain I threw up several repeatedly but still no where near the pain of the above. Oh and period pain as a teen was similar to gallstones, I was violently sick most months but it never occurred to me to think it was odd as it was what I was used to.

Childbirth and IBS cramps are a joint first for me

FruitPastilleNut · 04/10/2022 13:46

Childbirth without a doubt. Well, not the actual birth but the contractions.

The fact that more women haven't given this as their answer to me is a good indication of just how good our brains are at making us forget.

Muffinsong · 04/10/2022 13:48

Internal radiotherapy- or rather the removal of the rods 🤢

OnlyYellowRoses · 04/10/2022 13:54

Dislocated knee. I've had 4 natural childbirths which, whilst still very painful in parts (crowning), for me childbirth doesn't even come close to the pain of having the knee put back into place.
I'd had morphine and some sort of inhaled pain relief too but it took 2 nurses and my dad to hold me down whilst having it relocated Confused

I don’t think that’s true, childbirth is obviously painful but for lots of people it is not the most pain they have experienced.

soggydigestives · 04/10/2022 14:09

For me without a doubt it was induced labour with only gas and air. Absolutely horrific although I did suffer a 3rd degree tear. I'll never forget that!

mommatoone · 04/10/2022 14:32

Dentist trying to remove my tooth , despite the anesthetic not working due to an abscess!.
I couldnt tell him cos his hand was in my mouth and he just thought i was being anxious!.
Never again

Back spasm. Worse than childbirth...

waterlego · 04/10/2022 14:58

A pilonidal sinus I had in my late teens stands out as being the most painful thing I’ve experienced. Worse than labour for me. Having the bloody thing ‘packed’ after surgery was excruciating.

Infected root canal comes a close second. Regular painkillers did nothing. Even codeine only just took the edge off. I spent a lot of time literally pacing the floor because I just didn’t know what to do with myself.

Also once took a sertraline without sufficient water and thought I had burnt a hole in my oesophagus. That was very painful but not as bad as labour.

medianewbie · 04/10/2022 15:00

Had a lumbar bleed some years back. Episiotomy (gone wrong). Steroids into hip bone for bursitis. Abcess on jaw.

I don't agree that if people haven't said 'childbirth' that' it's because they have just forgotten.

I managed on just gas & air, and a birth pool, if I were in more pain I would have explored other options of pain relief that were available to me. Tbh the pain after was worse than the actual labour pain. I.e. piles, and a really sore fanny area!

keeprunningupthathill · 04/10/2022 15:09

I've had two kids but worst for me was a really bad ear infection I had a few years ago. I literally couldn't do anything but lie in bed and I had to lie down on the floor of the doctors when I went begging for something to help! Third set of anti biotics worked (or maybe it was just coincidence by then!)

TallulahBetty · 04/10/2022 15:13

Broken ribs. Worse than unmedicated childbirth.

ellieeex · 04/10/2022 15:13

Labour!!

I also don’t think it’s because people forget , I had a 10lb + baby with no pain relief and an ELCS with a straightforward recovery , in fact my shoulder surgeries were more painful post op .

Elsiebear90 · 04/10/2022 15:44

I had an ectropion on my cervix, they tried to burn it away with silver nitrate and accidentally burnt my vaginal wall with no pain relief at all, didn’t tell me either.

I was in complete agony, never felt pain like it, I was sweating, shaking, throwing up etc for hours even a large dose of cocodamol did nothing. Saw my GP a few days later to be examined as I thought something was seriously wrong as I was still bleeding and in pain and he told me they must have “caught your vaginal wall” as there’s a burn on it.

Dogtooth · 04/10/2022 15:45

Childbirth, but I haven't had many injuries or illnesses otherwise.

Anal fissures after labour were their own particular kind of awful - absolute screaming agony to do a poo, often done through gritted teeth while my newborn cried in the background and my toddler messed around with who knows what. It was more awful because the pain was repeated so often and there was the anticipation of it and having to initiate it, so to speak. I've never taken a good well formed stool for granted since!

TheDivineOddity · 04/10/2022 15:46

When the paramedic pressed firmly down on my kneecap to see if it was broken.

It was.

I gave out an almighty scream and later she said she'd had to 'scrape me off the clouds'.
