Some say tooth pain is one of the worst pains to have.

What would you say the worst pain is you’ve experienced?

OP posts:

Thanks @Tilda77 - absolutely dreading it as knew it'd be a painful recovery, could I ask how long roughly it took to feel better? I've had a gallbladder removal and 2 c sections but I'm actually more terrified by this op 😬

Crotonifolia · 04/10/2022 22:55

Back spasms here too. I suspect a slipped disc, but wasn't ever given imaging to check. The pain lasted months, and I've been left with chronic sciatica (I can cope with that pain). It was horrendous, I'm terrified of it happening again.

I had an induced back labour, but I'd do that again if I could avoid back spasms.

Back spasms. Absolutely horrible pain!

Tell me about it screamed all Easter weekend agony. I dread doing my back in.

Dry socket after a root canal. I’ve had two babies without pain relief but would happily take that over a dry socket any day. I wanted to saw my head off!

TheSummerPalace · 05/10/2022 09:26

Steroid injection in my finger. It was quite brief but it was intense! And I've given birth without pain relief!

I forgot I had a steroid injection into my hand. One of the most intense pains, I have ever experienced. I had ultrasound treatment a couple of hours later, and the woman said “I can see, they really hurt you!”

overthinkersanonnymus · 05/10/2022 19:52

Dry socket infection in my gum. Absolute agony

ImInACage · 05/10/2022 19:54

Scoliosis spinal surgery involving four metal rods, 20 odd screws and the removal of several ribs. The recovery was horrendous and to begin with, nothing touched the pain.

jewishmum · 05/10/2022 19:57

Has anyone said 'heartbreak' yet lol?

ImInACage · 05/10/2022 19:57

Hit post too soon. I meant to add that neither of my births have come anywhere close to that level of pain. I'm waiting for more surgery as I've managed to snap a rod, I'd rather go through a mess free childbirth again, while having all my toe nails pulled out with rusty pliers!

ImInACage · 05/10/2022 19:58

*med free!

Elodie09 · 05/10/2022 20:09

I had a tissue expander inserted in my leg, at the side of my knee, it had to have saline injected into weekly for several months. As it grew big enough and the skin was stretched far enough for the grafts to be done the pain was truly awful.
Off the scale for me compared to childbirth, but we are all so different.
Sympathies to everyone .

appleyoudontevenknow · 05/10/2022 20:34

Double ear drum rupture. Still so afraid of it happening again!

Dontwakeme · 05/10/2022 21:13

I find this thread weirdly comforting, So many of these I’m like ohh I’ve had that too but wasn’t as bad as such and such. The human body and our individual experience is fascinating. Thoughts to everyone in pain right now or struggling with the memories of painful moments, wishing everyone strength for today and bright hope for a better day tomorrow.

Tilda77 · 05/10/2022 21:44

@ellieboolou It was probably 3 months to feel back to 'normal'. The first 2 to 3 weeks were horrendous. I think I would have recovered better had I not gone back to work at my physical job 4 days after. I underestimated how painful it was going to be and I have a high pain threshold!

FatMog · 05/10/2022 21:47

Either the worst burning earache ever (blocked with wax and an infection) or breaking my ankle. And I've had an emergency caesarean.

sagalooshoe · 05/10/2022 21:54

strep throat

Livingonjuice · 05/10/2022 22:19

Dislocated shoulder. I sat in a@E for hours crying silently then retching (which hurt it even more). Finally got morphine which didn't work really but I couldn't be bothered to cry any more
I was really silent and withdrawn and the do it said "we can you're in a lot of pain so we're going to put you to sleep while we out it back". Honestly was blissful when the fentanyl went in

ellieboolou · 05/10/2022 23:38

@Tilda77 3 months 😳 I've a high pain threshold too and although I'm taking minimum 3 weeks off after surgery I've 2 young kids, now terrified but hopefully will be with it in the longer term. Thanks for replying

TheWitchOfShields · 06/10/2022 00:30

Gallbladder infection/gallstones pain

I'd give birth any day over the pain of cholecystitis 🤮😭. I have quite a high pain threshold and that pain had me rolling the floor screaming

HerRoyalNotness · 06/10/2022 00:44

I had a stupid fall at home and landed straight on my shoulder. If id out my arms out to save me I guess I would have broken them. As it was, I reversed dislocated it, dented my humorous and tour my labrum. The first day was ‘ok’ and got some painkillers from a&e. The next day sitting on the couch rolling pain started, without moving, then if I tried to move,’like standing or sitting. I was HOWLING it was so bad. The kids were scared so I had to call a friend to get mh youngest and another to ans me back to a&e. A still howling through triage and sitting in a&e. They gave me morphine and Valium. Then said they wouldn’t put it back in as it was getting caught on the dent and was I sure This wasn't an old injury.

I’ve had dry socket which was awful wake me up pain and an EMCS which was horrific recovery, but neither touched this pain.

every medical professional I saw during my treatment sucked their teeth and said ooooh that’s unusual and really hard to recover from. Had surgery and physio. 18mths later in pain every day and limited motion. Should got get it sorted but 😬

Froodledo · 04/10/2022 04:54

Rheumatoid arthritis pain in virtually every joint except my hips, or at least before I received effective treatment. Horrible horrible horrible.

Oh I feel you. Before I was diagnosed I was having pain in my arms and hands that woke me every night, thought it was weird it was both of them. And mine was an early mild case!

DoubleNegativePanda · 06/10/2022 00:52

Having my spinal anesthesia wear off halfway through a c-section. My baby was in distress and they couldn't give me any pain relief until she was out. I've never felt such pain before or since.

Ketchupgoesinthefridge · 06/10/2022 01:20

For me child birth and 2 c sections are nothing compared to the pain of a dental abscess . Had an extraction yesterday and can't describe the pain once the local wore off.

Hollyhobbi · 06/10/2022 01:26

Hmm. The pain while vomiting all over myself and the bed after an emergency total abdominal hysterectomy while I had very low phosphate levels and undiagnosed primary hyperparathyroidism or after a c-section when the stupid painkilling suppository fell out, are pretty high up there. Maybe on a par with the pain after I had 4 wisdom teeth extracted (the surgeon said one of them was the most impacted he'd seen in his 30 year career!) and the tooth abscess I had before I had root canal treatment done on that tooth. Sciatica from a bulging desk was pretty crap too. Bone pain from primary hyperparathyroidism can be shit as well. It's supposed to be as painful as bone cancer. Damage caused to my knees from pHPT can be crippling too. It's like my kneecaps are being scrapped out with a sharp knife. But I'm having another scan today to hopefully find the offending parathyroid gland or glands and finally have a second operation to cure me of this godawful disease after having a failed operation in June 2017. And yes chronic pain is a nightmare especially when you can't take anti inflammatories because you've had two DVTs caused by pHPT. Sorry for the thesis 😭
