For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I cannot describe how painful it is, Franny. I had to scrape the car this morning because it was covered in snow. Stupidly, I didn't wear my gloves. When I got in the car, I couldn't move my fingers. I sat on them to warm them up and they started burning and it was sooooo painful I nearly cried.

We were going to go to playgroup this morning but it took us 15 minutes to get bundled up enough but we were so padded I couldn't get DS in the sling and was worried that his nose might freeze.

It has been minus 20 before and that hurt but this is beyond belief.

Your coleslaw sounds delicious. We're having pasta with homemade pesto, broccoli, peas and spinsch. And lots of fruit.

MrsCarrot · 24/01/2008 17:14

fishfinger sandwich

FrannyandZooey · 24/01/2008 17:27

I am doubting that human life is meant to exist in those sort of conditions

what happens to all the birds and animals?

OP posts:
TooTicky · 24/01/2008 17:27

OR, I cannot imagine that! Have you read The House by the Dvina? It is set in Arkangel, Russia and some of the details - like the maid crying and crying because she couldn't feel her fingers after rinsing washing in the river - are very affecting.

TooTicky · 24/01/2008 17:28

Don't birds sometimes freeze in mid-air and fall out of the sky?

FrannyandZooey · 24/01/2008 17:34

TooT that could happen to US if we try to meet outside in March

sorry, are you hacked off with me trying to boss your meet up without actually doing any of the work? Why not just organise what you want to do and then if I don't want to come I can lump it politely decline

I haven't read that, Toot but I can just imagine how she would have felt. I will add it to my 'To Read' list.

I agree that I don't think we were meant to live in conditions like this but some places are like this almost all year. I just couldn't survive. I wonder where all the animals and birds go - we have wild parakeets that live here all year - it's very strange seeing them sitting on the snow.

I am now thinking about fishfingers...

TooTicky · 24/01/2008 17:38

God no, I am not in the least bit hacked off! I'm just finding it a bit hard to know what people actually want

TigerFeet · 24/01/2008 18:13

Good grief OR - where on earth do you live???

ZippiBabes · 24/01/2008 18:18

franny talking of cold places would you like me to send this book the healer

FrannyandZooey · 24/01/2008 18:41

ooh yes please zippi

TooT you will never please everyone, just arrange what you think will work best and people can then take or leave it. offering a (small) choice of dates is probably a good idea. It's kind of you to be giving it thought.

and quite a few lemon and ginger teas and a fruit tea

OverRated · 24/01/2008 19:14

ZippiBabes · 24/01/2008 19:15

i dont eat biscuits..luckily it never enters my head

tho i did have some a t xmas come expensive chocolate ones

OverRated · 24/01/2008 19:29

Mine were left over from Christmas. I don't usually have them in the house. You were very good on the smoothie thread, zippi.

Must go and find some fruit.

ZippiBabes · 24/01/2008 19:33

well i find nutritional things interesting and always have done..my mum was a diabetic with a brittle version of the illness so very hard to control

and my ds is a lifelong hater of food and with other sorts of problems who had me when he was 7/8

so i am always fascin ated by these kind of discussions

FrannyandZooey · 24/01/2008 20:06

you did us all proud zippi and you didn't get even a little bit shrill

Oh I LOVED the bit about birds freezing in mid-air. Though imagine if they fell down in front of you, on the pavement or something

I have had a mug of miso soup today. Hmm. That's a bit rubbish isn't it. I will have salad tonight. DS2 has eaten all the fruit, including the hidden store of apples in the fridge.

Franny - put a sticker on the clock and say 'when the 7 shows up HERE, not further along. That is 7 o'clock' ?

Johnny Jet and I had a brief attempt at 'training' today. He lay on his back a lot and looked at the clouds and I said 'sit' a lot and he rolled his eyes, and then we put a lead on him and he picked it up in his mouth and gambolled about with his ears flapping in the wind. Hmm.

OverRated · 24/01/2008 20:16

Yes, handled very well!

MrsCarrot · 24/01/2008 20:17

tOOT - I am relly sorry but when I read that bit about the birds freezing in mid flight I laughed out loud and I don't know why I'm telling you as you did a sad face but I felt I had to confess.

OverRated · 24/01/2008 20:19

I like the birds falling from the sky thing too - I haven't seen it happen but will keep my eyes peeled now.

Lovely to hear some Johnnyjet news - he sounds fab. I want a spaniel now.

FrannyandZooey · 24/01/2008 20:19

I bloody love smoothies atm and especially when i was feeling nauseous and having to go to work. Sipping the yogurt and banana ones from M+S saved me many a day.

100 I said put a sticker on, but ds said "I might get confused and take it off and stick it somewhere else." He and dp arranged a piece of paper with sellotape so there is now only one number visible. God knows what will happen.

OverRated · 24/01/2008 20:20

It made me too Mrs C. Would probably be less amusing if you saw it happen though. Sorry Toot.
