not quite sure what’s happened no injury or anything but i’ve woken up and my left cheek has tripled in size to the point my eye don’t open fully my cheek kinda hurts, no dental pain or anything i can’t think what’s caused it, currently on hold to GP who most likely won’t give me an appointment. has this happened to anyone? it’s only one cheek

Have you used anything different. Sun cream?

CornishTiger · 04/08/2022 08:23

Also do you have any allergy tablets?

Neverplayleapfrogwithaunicorn · 04/08/2022 08:26

Have you had a tooth removed

Littlebluebird123 · 04/08/2022 08:28

Sounds like an allergic reaction.
I had a similar reaction to a mosquito bite once.
I took piriton which helped.

onmywayamarillo · 04/08/2022 08:28

I was bitten just under my eye by a mosquito and my face and eye swelled.

Couldn't see or feel the bite until it healed up

SBParker99 · 04/08/2022 08:54

bno tooth removal, nothing new, ive taken an antihistamine so hoping that helps waiting on a call from the gp i can barely see and the pressures making my eye and head hurt

SBParker99 · 04/08/2022 08:58

@Seeline its hot to touch and my cheek and eye is hurting but it’s just showed up overnight, how did he treat it? and was it a fast fix

Any bites/scratches/spots? Any pain at all? Bad taste/dry mouth? What is your dental health generally like? Any pain numbness anywhere?

SBParker99 · 04/08/2022 09:05

If it's cellulitis you need (strong) antibiotics quickly. Cellulitis can get really bad really quickly. I understand that if your face/head is involved it can be really serious.
Mention it as a possibility when you speak to your GP.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/08/2022 09:15

Sonething similar happened to me on Christmas Eve a few years back. No obvious reason. I was seen straight away, given antibiotics and told I must go to A&E if it wasn't improving, despite it being Christmas. So they did take it seriously. It did improve thank goodness.

Mosaic123 · 04/08/2022 09:16

I had a tiny poke in the cheek from a plant whilst gardening once. It did something similar.

percypig · 04/08/2022 09:18

I’ve had this and it was due to a sinus infection. I had to go to ENT (via a GP referral, but would have done A&E if I couldn’t get GP). I think I had antibiotics to treat the infection and it resolved within a few days-week, but without wishing to scare you, it could have been much more serious if left untreated.

Harp1977 · 04/08/2022 09:19

I agree with Seeline please get seen to ASAP.
When I got cellulitis, on my face it ballooned up in a couple of hrs. And I really had to fight to get an appt. The pharmacist actually contacted the GP and threatened to report them for negligence if I was not seen. It turned out I had a tiny crack in my tooth that despite having a consultation with a dental hygienist two days before was missed and became infected. I was really unwell.

Etinoxaurus · 04/08/2022 09:19

Can you call 111 from another phone or do the online form. As pp have said it could be cellulitis. If the swelling is around the eye I’d hot foot it to A&E

I had similar and it was a blocked salivary gland. Have you eaten anything unusual/fibrous? (The culprit for me was an entire massive coconut that was going out of code).

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 04/08/2022 09:24

Do you have a local minor injuries unit? They look at minor injuries and illnesses, so might be a quick way for you to actually be seen in person. If it is cellulitis then the sooner the better.

DoingJustFine · 04/08/2022 09:24

My ex had this - blocked saliva gland.

maskersanonymous · 04/08/2022 09:46

I had this recently. I think it was a blocked salivary gland but the doctor was insistent I took antibiotics in case it was an infection (possibly from an insect bite?) as apparently an infection in the face can travel very quickly to the brain. Definitely see your GP.

EmergencyHepNeeded · 04/08/2022 09:52

I would go to OOH with that, OP.

SBParker99 · 04/08/2022 09:57

thanks everyone, GP fobbed me of with no appointment or treatment so not sure what to do

OP posts:
maskersanonymous · 04/08/2022 10:00

That's not great. Can you attend a minor injuries unit?

percypig · 04/08/2022 10:02

Yes, go to minor injuries or A&E.

Cones · 04/08/2022 10:03

Call 111. It sounds like it could be cellulitis and it needs antibiotics asap.
