not quite sure what’s happened no injury or anything but i’ve woken up and my left cheek has tripled in size to the point my eye don’t open fully my cheek kinda hurts, no dental pain or anything i can’t think what’s caused it, currently on hold to GP who most likely won’t give me an appointment. has this happened to anyone? it’s only one cheek

Might be shingles?

lOPAS · 04/08/2022 12:53

Glad you are going to A and E OP, good luck !

ListsWonderfulLists · 04/08/2022 14:36

Glad you're going to A&E. I had similar and it turned out to be cellulitis as other people have said. Came on so suddenly and no discernible cut or bite.

Purplehonesty2 · 04/08/2022 15:59

Hope you got on ok OP

SBParker99 · 04/08/2022 21:43

it was a very long wait but turns out my inflammatory markers were really high and i have an abscess and have two types of antibiotics and have to go back tomorrow for it to be drained

FannyFifer · 04/08/2022 21:53

Oh you poor thing, glad you have been seen.
So weird that you had no pre warning , nothing being sore etc. Hope antibiotics work quickly.

Seeline · 04/08/2022 22:16

Sounds nasty! Is it a dental abscess? Hope the meds kick in quickly and all goes well tomorrow.

SBParker99 · 04/08/2022 22:29

@Seeline it is yes, funnily my mouth wasn’t hurting until they had finished priding around and now i’m in agony, but they couldn’t do anything until tomorrow

Go to a & E. X

schnubbins · 04/08/2022 22:40

What is actually going on with GP's in the UK? Why are they not seeing people face to face?

It does rather look like everyone will be going to A&E instead SadAngry.

Although it definitely sounds as though it was the correct call for op.

IncessantNameChanger · 04/08/2022 23:40

You poor thing OP. I'm glad it's all in hand, bet your glad you did go now

SBParker99 · 06/08/2022 09:36

had it drained and dealt with, still taking many antibiotics etc however my face is taking forever for the swelling to go down and is extremely sore as my eyes now puffy too my mouth kills. any tips on recovery?

HappyHamsters · 06/08/2022 10:16

Are you at home, you poor thing, it sounds s like your gp needs to be told at some point. Can you gargle with salty water. Did they drain it from the inside of your mouth or the outside, do you get some relief from putting cool water cotton wool pads on your eyes. Have they given you decent painkillers.

SBParker99 · 06/08/2022 11:01

i’m home, done gurgling, drained through inside also have cellulitis, no pain relief, day 3 and in agony, nothings helping i’ve tried iburprofine etc @HappyHamsters

RandomMess · 06/08/2022 11:04

You poor poor poor thing, I was horrified that your GP refused to see you. Sorry it's something so painful and serious Flowers

EmmaH2022 · 06/08/2022 11:07

the hospital gave no pain relief?

what about trying ibuprofen + codeine from the chemist?

for your mouth, could you gargle with soluble aspirin solution? Don't do all this at the same time I guess.

orajel has benzocaine for dental pain, maybe try that?

HappyHamsters · 06/08/2022 11:10

No pain relief is very poor, I would either see a pharmacist or call the ooh doctor to get somerhing that will help, even if its over the counter co codomol until you can get a prescription... Tooth pain can be awful. Are you able to eat and drink ok.

HappyHamsters · 06/08/2022 11:13

If its been 3 days and you are in terrible pain it might be worth calling 111, I had this after a wisdom tooth removal and needed strong painkillers, prescrption mouthwash and a different antibiotic.

SBParker99 · 06/08/2022 11:20

i haven’t been able to eat or drink much i keep being sick from antibiotics, gargling only helps for short periods i’ve got iburprofine and paracetamol but it’s not doing much i’m thinking to call 111 as i feel awful and my face is still huge and i’m in a lot of pain and feeling weak etc the last three days have been hell. i can’t get to pharmacy’s as i have my two year old

OP posts:
CiderJolly · 06/08/2022 11:25

Honestly, I would head back to a&e, can someone take you? You might need stronger antibiotics or IV antibiotics. You also need to insist on stronger painkillers.

Absolutely do this OP, you poor thing Flowers

SBParker99 · 06/08/2022 11:27

i really don’t want to have a 5 hour wait again with my two year old i really don’t know what to do i thought it would have improved by now

Carrotzen · 06/08/2022 11:28

If its a dental abscess have you seen your dentist? You will need the tooth dealt with

You had it drained yesterday, swelling tends to get worse before it gets better as you have had a procedure. Swelling is worse on the 2nd/3rd day.

Keep massaging the swelling to continue drainage, plenty of salt water held over the incision area for 5 minutes at a time, not gargled just held. You could try an ice pack/cool pack to the swelling to brlng down the swelling

Alternate otc co-codamol with ibuprofen for pain relief.

HappyHamsters · 06/08/2022 11:30

I really think you need to be seen again and if you dont want to go to hospital at least call 111 who I suspect will advise you to go back. Can someone look after lo for you.
