not quite sure what’s happened no injury or anything but i’ve woken up and my left cheek has tripled in size to the point my eye don’t open fully my cheek kinda hurts, no dental pain or anything i can’t think what’s caused it, currently on hold to GP who most likely won’t give me an appointment. has this happened to anyone? it’s only one cheek

I know you don’t but it sounds serious, really not worth taking any chances. Ask if you can wait in the child’s waiting room, take loads of snacks/drinks for the little one.

Can no-one step in to help you?

Sorry you’re going through this- if you’re being sick you might not be getting the antibiotics needed. Plus you’re probably not thinking straight if you’re feverish.

Book a taxi and go to a&e.

Carrotzen · 06/08/2022 11:34

Where did you have it drained? Was it on a ward, on a clinic?

Namenic · 06/08/2022 11:35

See pharmacist about getting co-codamol instead of paracetamol (do not take both co-codamol and paracetamol at the same time as both contain paracetamol and you will end up having overdose of paracetamol, which can be dangerous).

however co-codamol can be taken at the same time as ibuprofen (as long as you follow the instructions on the packets and do not exceed the recommended dosages). Just be careful as co-codamol can make you a bit sleepy.

Does that make a difference

Namenic · 06/08/2022 11:39

But yes - if the swelling has not improved and you are feeling worse, it is a good call to go back to hospital for iv antibiotics and more pain relief as @CiderJolly suggested.

This.

And cellulitis can cause sepsis so it's one of those things you should never ever wait and see about if you aren't sure.

Better to be over cautious than get sepsis.

Carrotzen · 06/08/2022 12:03

@HappyHamsters yes because if it was drained in a ward you can phone the ward. If it was drained in clinic the clinic is unlikely to be open today, but OP can phone the on call if she has no post op instructions of who to call if she has problems

SBParker99 · 06/08/2022 12:04

i was dealt with in a&e, had to get it done at macillofacial surgery yesterday. no one to step in and help. going to see how i get on if no better later i’ll ring 111

Once patients are discharged from deom our wards if they have any problems and call in they are always advised to ro see gp or return to a&e. Perhaps other hospitals do things differently.

Carrotzen · 06/08/2022 12:26

@HappyHamsters yes other hospitals hospitals do it differently. If pts have problems following a surgical procedure they would normally be advised to contact the ward or clinic or secretary depending on the hospital and where the procedure was done. I am a maxfax doctor and have worked in many hospitals.

SBParker99 · 06/08/2022 12:28

@Carrotzen is maxfax open weekends? hoping they can help as they did the procedure

Carrotzen · 06/08/2022 12:31

Carrotzen · 06/08/2022 12:33

Sherrystrull · 06/08/2022 12:40

Is there a friend or family member who could look after your 2 year old for you? Bless you, sounds horrific.

SBParker99 · 06/08/2022 12:47

Could you call the A&E department you had it done at, explain the situation and see what they say? Unfortunately I think you are going to need to go back. Is there not a neighbour you could ask to have your child? This is pretty exceptional and I know I would step in if asked to by a neighbour on their own.., the worst that could happen is they say no.
