Cauliflower Steaming On Such A Winter's Day - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

No new thread yet...have the "rules" been changed, lol!

Anyway, day 1 of changing my disastrous eating habits again...

I decided that this week I will try to start working up to 10 portions of f&v again....but won't change anything else yet.

So far today I have had:
Banana
Kiwi
Dates

not quite sure which veggies we will have, but there will be parsnips, that is for sure, and probably carrots (possibly with swede) and cauliflower....so, whilst not 10 difference ones...I am getting there again

Went to hand in my Essay today, and am now bricking it...what if I don't get a pass? I won't be able to do the OT degree...sigh...so, cross all you have for me, please!

How is everyone else doing?

FrayedKnot · 21/01/2008 17:06

Just because you ahve a mother who is mad, doesn;t mean you will be too. My Mum is a ladler, a lovely, warm, nurturing person. As I said, my Grandmother is not. She once told me she wished she had never had any children She never cooked.

onebatmother · 21/01/2008 17:07

I would like mine to remember me ladling from the mothership, but being interesting at the same time. How does one resolve that.

What a very very lovely and vivid image MrsC.

I don't think both are imposs though, with a prevailing wind.

fullmoonfiend · 21/01/2008 17:11

MrsC, relaaax. The fact that you worry about this stuff means you are not a drain, nor likely to be I am sure...
drains don't have that self awareness...

I will join you on the sofa of doom with my mooncup and wheatbag later when ds has gone to bed (which could be late as he has had a nap today [eek])

3andnomore · 21/01/2008 17:53

Avi 1.20m is a single bed, isn't it...?

lol at tatties comment.....

fullmoonfiend · 21/01/2008 18:02

tou can have my seat Tatties, I'm done!

Boco · 21/01/2008 18:05

I'm making succotash soup, and singing that deelite song.

onebatmother · 21/01/2008 18:06

tomatoes
huge veggie stirfry with kale (kids ate it!)
banana
big carrot
more cooked carrots
about to open a bottle of grapes

BBBee · 21/01/2008 18:08

OMG I have just made the most vile supper. I have made a rissotto out of left over leek and potato soup.

There is a reason why potato rissotto is not well known.

Am about to serve it with lashings of grated cheese but even that may not save it.

Marmite sandwiches are nice.

ahundredtimes · 21/01/2008 18:14

I am making spaghetti bologanese. Not very impressive. But there are pears and blood oranges for pudding, and three plums which ds2 and I will fight over.

Sometimes radiators need draining, it's called bleeding.

TigerFeet · 21/01/2008 18:15

@ 120cm wide bed

right decision

Over on the BigMoFo's thread we have issues with our mothers and food - they fuck you up your Mum and Dad etc... I really hope that being conscious of it means that I won't fuck dd up too much. FK we should all aspire to be like your mum

Shuffle up on the sofa of doom - no specific recent mother troubles here but dd is not at her most endearing and we are all tired and I hate my new haircut and I have PMT. Oh, and because I have been v unhealthy for the last oooh 15 years I am now trying to undo the damage so the usual comforts of wine and chocolate are out. [self absorbed]

I need a Johnny Jet in my life. However I would feel compelled to spell it with two "t"'s - Johnny Jett.

FrannyandZooey · 21/01/2008 18:15

oh grated cheese, and salt and pepper saves almost anything Bee

right I am jumping off the sofa of doom. Dp is nearly home and ds has been a sweetie.

my mother cooks, a lot, and fusses, and brings you more food than you need, and then makes comments about your weight. even when you are pg fgs! I like ladlers but I get very tense about serving food to people in my house. It is my latest thing I am trying to work out why.

One good thing about having my mother visit is I can see EXACTLY how ds needs to be. He needs to be not interfered with or criticised or corrected or interrupted or bossed. It's marvellous, and easy, until she goes away and I start doing it myself again

ds just ate a fab bowl of fab stew

I love him eating veggies and enjoying them with gusto - I feel very proud. I will need a lot of help if I have a child who is a fussy eater - you would all help wouldn't you

right TITLES

let's do it

TigerFeet · 21/01/2008 18:18

x posted with loads of you! is 120cm a normal single bed? In that case I revoke my as we already have one - I would like a double for dd at the very least but there is no room for one in her bedroom.

Today - banana & blueberry smoothie, watercress & potato soup, banana, 2 apples, 2 clementines, a plum and Moroccan couscous for tea with chick peas, butternut squash, pepper, sweet potato and tomato.

Haven't done any exercise today.

ahundredtimes · 21/01/2008 18:21

Erm. dancing greens or kale curling, it curls for you.

Is there some kind of a check list on how to be a good mother do you think? Let's make one. I think I am a radiator to ds2 and a drain to ds1 and a bit of both to dd. My mother is a very upmarket rather stylish small radiator, one of those ones that hangs on the wall in an unusual way, and does give off heat but you don't quite realize it.

FrannyandZooey · 21/01/2008 18:30

I don't even know what the dancing greens one is, do I?

is it Abba related?

dancing queen fandz

FrannyandZooey · 21/01/2008 18:51

I know what dancing queen is, but I didn't see the title suggestion that said dancing greens I don't think

I didn't know if it was that or something else - was there more to it or was it just "Dancing Greens"?

sorry I have probably just read it and forgotten
