For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I do like the LOTR films, but wit dh it is something of a default comfort setting. So we have seen them many , many times. And last night I just wanted to chat bolleaux and eat curry. I went to sleep....

lionheart · 20/01/2008 15:41

Hello everyone.

Cyber hugs and Manly pats for those grappling with tax.

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2008 16:59

Boco have you seen Harold and Maude? Shall I send it?

OP posts:
FrayedKnot · 20/01/2008 17:57

I'm not sure if it's evening or not, DS and I have been to sleep for 1.5 hours. Not sure what that signifies for the early waking. Perhaps it has broken a pattern

We had an enormous lunch, and then walked in lots of sticky mud.

BBBee when were you in Brighton? were you one of the people who did go there in the end? Someone looked round Sussex Uni and met a weird girl who probably wasn;t me, and decided against it, who was it? I loved the D of Y's. Used to go to the double bill on a Friday night and always to the Film Festival. It was all Krystof Kieslowski, Wim Wenders & stuff. Cake in the foyer a must, and a full packet of fags.

BBBee · 20/01/2008 18:08

FK it is evening. I don;t think I knew you were at Brighton - we must have managed to not talk about it!

I was there 1993-1996.

TooTicky · 20/01/2008 18:12

MrsC, I would speak to C about Morocco.

We went swimming. First swimming pool was full so we went to one we hadn't been to before and it was all very confusing and I had to reverse up a muddy lane and I was worried the car was getting hot and I was grumpy and distraught.
But we got there in the end, despite the signposts, and it was actually okay.
Apart from the girl in the changing room who gave me a defiant look and then sprayed her aerosol all around

OverRated · 20/01/2008 18:20

Zippi I hope you had a good time in Tring. It does seem like a slightly odd place to visit.

There seems to be a lot of rain in Europe atm - hope everyone is staying warm and dry.

Aviatrix, your niece's TV thing sound exciting. What did you cook for your dinner guests?

Thanks for the link Franny and the crumble recipe. We have a new greengrocers opening on Wednesday so I'm going to stock up then. Am compiling lists of what to cook and what I need to buy.

I went to Morrocco many moons ago. I have fond memories but my mother does not. I probably would take DS when he is older.

ahundredtimes · 20/01/2008 18:21

I think it was Boco who met a weird girl at Sussex wasn't it? I have no idea why I think that apart from the fact I have a stupidly retentive memory for pointless information.

Is Harold & Maude the one about the old woman and the young man who have a shared love of funerals?

Johnny Jet is proving to be most pleasing. He likes his teepee and he has weed outside today every time and he puts his head on one side and wags his tail and when the children run he runs with them and then everyone falls over and he licks their faces. I am liking Johnny Jet so far.

We went for a walk today - without the dog - and jumped in puddles and the dcs slid down muddy banks. DS1 is entering a photography competition at school, and he skulked about taking photographs. We came across a man doing Tai Chi in the trees and he said 'how interesting' and went straight up and photographed him. I think he has the makings of a paparazzi member.

I have eaten numerous fruits, broccoli, peas, red cabbage and green beans.

ahundredtimes · 20/01/2008 18:24

I took ds1 to southern africa when he was one. That was fine. I think it would probably be okay if you are vigilant about water, take OCD forming anti-bacterial hand stuff, and make sure he doesn't open his mouth in the shower/bath, eat fruit or anything uncooked and erm, you wash teeth with bottled water?

I am probably being overly-attentive though. I think you can beat the hygiene issue, and it would only be heat that would normally be a worry and won't be in March.

I am not cowardly though, I am reckless and foolhardy.

OverRated · 20/01/2008 18:26

at the girl with the aerosol but glad you managed to go swimming, TooTicky

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2008 18:27

100 yes yes that is the one, it makes me swoon

will Johnny Jet still be as nice when he is not a puppy? This question is probably heresy but I have to ask it to offset my at your dc having the most wonderful time with him

Ds once said "Mummy if you die, I would be soooo sad. I would be sad for a long, long time. But then I would get over it, and me and Daddy could get a DOG."

have eaten stir fry with kale, onion, mushroom, peppers, carrots. It was nice but Sainsburys have stopped selling Kikkoman soy sauce and Amoy is completely horrible in comparison. It is sickly and disgusting.

TooTicky · 20/01/2008 18:29

FK, have put aubergine caviar on the recipe thread .
What is that other nice thing with aubergines? Is it babaganoush?

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2008 18:31

can we have a new title for tomorrow please? MrsC did you say you had invented a marvellous one?

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 20/01/2008 18:33

Yes I think he will be better won't he? Because he bound across the place, and play on the beach and be a proper companion. Now he's just a bit wobbly and daft. Mind you, that's just me - I vastly prefer having talking, walking children to babies.

I haven't seen it Franny, but I'd like to. Perhaps Boco will send it on? For some reason I know all about it - and it sounds marvellous and strange.

Oh and the Coen film, I didn't like much. I read a review by Philip French this morning saying how morally complex it was, and I thought, no it wasn't!

Franny you must go and see Juno when it comes out, because i think you'll like it.

I have seen EVERY film recently as dh gets Bafta voting dvds.

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2008 18:36

which is Juno please and what is it about?

Yes I would love everyone to watch Harold and Maude at the same time as I am sending Boco's great odd film around. Please feel free to chuck other dvds into the mix, we could get a little dvd circle going

I think I could only cope with a small wobbly and daft dog. it's good you will have more fun when he is older

we had leek and potato soup. I feel the need to report it as it is the only proper cooking I have done since term began. I love how leek and potato soup is so wonderful with a few ingredients - I have to surpress the urge to herb and garlic and I am always glad I do when I taste the singing sweet leeks.

Life is racketing by. Stories of JJ are most satisfying - as is visions of toot swimming and 100x mini sliding down banks.

I find a lot of pleasure in the nuances of people's lives. MrsC de-fuzzing garden walks are still my favourite.

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2008 18:39

I like aubergine parmigiana and a tagliatelle thing that dp makes, but I only really tolerate the aubergines being in there because the rest of it is nice

they are not the most pleasant consistency really are they? I once made aubergine caviar by roasting the halves in the oven (as instructed) and I nearly gagged when I took it out - it had exploded into some vile inside out hairball creation

I am eating M+S mini eggs. They have beetroot juice in**the gods honest truth

Oh Juno is fab, and about a schoolgirl who gets pregnant and is going to give up her baby for adoption. It's very well-written and cool and uplifting and just nice. I think you'll like it. Has lots of folk songs, and she's bliss.

I can't send any of our DVDs because otherwise dh will be arrested and the FBI will hunt him down and put him in federal jail - that's what they say at the start of the DVDs. Mind you, have lots upstairs.

I like MrsC's midnight walks in the garden too.

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2008 18:41

I had asterices in there, like a foot note thing

I expect it has taken the spaces in between the asterices and bolded it, oh marvellous

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2008 18:43

oh no I hadn't properly read the bit about the Baftas when I said pass the dvds on - I just meant does anyone have any favourites they want to lend. We don't want you to be put in federal jail - the food would be awful

I like Juno already - is it arty? If so they may not have it here (nice town with naff cinema)

ahundredtimes · 20/01/2008 18:44

Juno

Oh I think it'll go to the local. She'll be nominated for something I think.

Boco · 20/01/2008 18:46

Yes please Franny - i've not seen it so do send. I think juno is the teen film about the pregnant girl choosing parents for her unborn child isn't it?

Having nut roast for dinner, it's taking ages and is late and the children are past it and dd1 is very ratty and i'm trying not to rise to it. La la la la la.

FrayedKnot · 20/01/2008 18:46

Thanks TooT! I have an aubergine poised in the fridge Sorry about the swimming lady.

BBBee I left in 1992 Were you studying & if so what, and where?

I am n ot sure about Morocco MrsC. I have a bit of a thing about going on holiday and then spending the whole time worrying about illness / heat / stuff. Which would kind of not make it a relaxing time, iyswim. We seem to go on holiday in the UK mostly, possibly for that reason. But, i am probably weird.
