Zoe Nutrition Testing

Wombat27A · 15/06/2022 08:15

Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

@caramelchaos yes it does. I may have one left if you pm me.

@chutneypig dark choc is green for me - about 50. I have yoghurt with fruit and/or nut butter for my sweet stuff (except for yesterday when dd made me eat the whipped cream from her milkshake obvs).

@MassiveSalad22 lovely to see you back!

@BarryKentPoet I am also loving the food. I enjoy finding fakeaways- this week was bang bang cauliflower using gram flower!

@Wombat27A you da man. I did appreciate your post.

Thank you, I'm just working out how to pm then I will pm you 😂

caramelchaos · 29/08/2022 10:14

@lugeforlife I've worked it out now, have pmed you Grin

I'm with you @MassiveSalad22 - back from holidays and back at it.

I dabbled last week and it was useful to see what higher scoring foods I could get out and about. My daughter really enjoyed a bean salad I bought and is keen to take that sort of thing to school. That'll help a lot at weekends if we can double up on food like that.

That blog was very insightful @Wombat27A, thanks very much for sharing.

Great work on the 75+ day @BarryKentPoet. What score does dark chocolate come out for you? It was my go to healthier treat option but was 42 - although I've not tried pairing it with anything yet.

Off to the supermarket to stock up soon. I'm trying to add spices in as well having listened to the Zoe podcast on that.

I think the dark choc scored 43 but I had it with some nuts and it didnt affect my daily score by much at all.

Wombat27A · 29/08/2022 12:54

I think I still have some referral codes if anyone wants one. Not sure if the poster who asked for one preiously used it.

Do you get an msg or something?

Dark chocolate is amber and 40 for me. :-)

I'm getting impatient waiting for my results to join in the scoring discussion. Meantime I enjoyed a kefir smoothie, thanks Wombat, didn't give any to the dog yet though.

Not so good was the after-effects of 3 glasses of white wine. Lovely long afternoon at the pub, didn't binge eat crap afterwards or carry on when I got home, felt completely fine when I went to bed but oh my god what a crap nights sleep.

MassiveSalad22 · 29/08/2022 19:17

Anyone know how to search recipes? Can’t figure it out. Something on my meal plan last week (clicked through from the ‘plan your meals’ thing and it was suggested so never had to search!) which I want to look up again.

chutneypig · 30/08/2022 07:00

I'm finding the planning bit the most awkward @MassiveSalad22, it doesn't seem very intuitive to access.

I find anything more than one glass/beer hits my resting heart rate and means a bad night for sleep. Frustrating for you @LeakyLoftHatch after you didn't snack afterwards too. Definitely gotten worse as I've got older.

I think I'm prepped for the week. I made some seed crackers yesterday which always help fill me up at lunch.

Itsnotallblackandwhite · 30/08/2022 10:32

Hi Wombat, I’ve just pm’d you. Thanks so much for this thread, it’s fascinating 🙂

BarryKentPoet · 30/08/2022 10:35

Got another day scoring over 75. I know we all have different scores, but is it helpful to share what we eat to score well?
Yesterday I had beans on Livlife toast for breakfast, courgette soup for lunch, salad, nuts, cherries & raspberries for snacks and dinner was actually a KFC! I had 1 mini fillet, a corn on the cob and some chips. Shows if you eat well most of the day, eating some of the lower-scoring meals isnt too bad occasionally.

I don’t think you can search them. Which is a bit of a flaw!

Thank you!

Glad to help. This stuff is all done at the margins, so any and all info is helpful.

@BarryKentPoet I'd agree with that. I try to do a good daytime and then go a bit off-piste with tea...

I screenshot recipes but I've not search for them. All mine are mexican soup...

That was very helpful for me @BarryKentPoet! Just looked up Livlife bread as I'd not heard of it - one for the shopping basket for sure.

I've planned today out, should be good if I stick to it. My lunch is all prepped and ready to go. I'm trying to have lunch as my main meal, avoid the snacks feeling I get before dinner. I think that's habit as much as anything as I definitely feel fuller eating this way.

BarryKentPoet · 31/08/2022 07:20

Scored 85 yesterday, and that included 2 biscuits and breaded fish for dinner!
Breakfast was avocado & sesame seeds on homemade sourdough, lunch was barley risotto with veg, snacks were nuts/raspberries/cherries and 2 biscuits, dinner was baby potatoes, breaded fish, cabbage, carrots, corn on the cob & peas.

I find prepping food for work makes this so much easier!

lugeforlife · 31/08/2022 20:46

I've had Livlife bread - I keep a loaf in the freezer. A couple of slices with avocado and a poached egg scores me in the 80s. It's expensive though.

Wombat27A · 31/08/2022 22:15

So I've had a bit of a curveball. Apparently I'm low on iron, not quite anaemic...

So I've been prescribed iron pills & after lots of advice on a separate thread, it's best to have it with orange juice. 🙄

Went off the rails for about a week when family staying. Won't be quite so lax again as had real impact on my digestion and sleep. My body is clearly becoming a temple!! Back on the programme for the last four days and such a difference to how I feel and esp my 💩- apologies if TMI

chutneypig · 01/09/2022 06:05

That's definitely a curveball @Wombat27A. It's the vitamin C that helps absorption isn't it? Maybe a supplement rather than the juice would work.

It does feel difficult when you throw others into the mix @Iwouldliketogovegan. I tried last week but had one day I didn't keep most meals to plan and boy did I feel it the next day. I'm using it as a motivator now to make good choices. Didn't even look at cake at work yesterday.

I hit 85 yesterday. So that was:
Breakfast smoothie - Zoe recipe with a few tweaks
Lunch - freekah salad and roasted vegetables, seed crackers and PB and chickpea blondies
Dinner - roasted pepper, lentils and egg
Snacks - walnuts, Kind bar and apple with almond butter

It was ok, felt good on it but I need to work on flavourings, mostly it was on the bland side.

lugeforlife · 01/09/2022 07:23

@Wombat27A could you look at taking floradix or spatone? I use a spray iron supplement but I suspect if you are deficient you need more than that. When I was pregnant I needed a lot of iron but tablets knackered my bowel so my consultant prescribed me spatone.

I am intrigued by those who feel different after a low scoring day. I'll be honest, other than an improvement in my poo diagrams I don't feel that much better. Still tired and low in energy. A bit thinner yes and less aches in the morning less farty and bloaty so some improvement but energy wise still low. I am still not moving much but am getting a few more walks in my day and have done some yoga and swimming but my periods are pretty hard core and are washing me out. Bring on the hrt I say.

MatchaTea · 01/09/2022 07:55

@Wombat27A you can make your own iron water at home with luckyironfish.com . It is a cast iron ingot that you put either in your pot whilst you cook a stew or soup, or just in a pot of boiling water for 10 min with a few drops of lemon. After 10 min you have home made spatone.
You can use the iron-water to cook rice, quinoa, pasta, potatoes,.... or herbal tea. But not for coffee or tea even decaf.
The fish-shaped iron ingot will last you decades. It doesn't cause cramps or nausea.

Iwouldliketogovegan · 01/09/2022 09:00

@MatchaTea @lugeforlife what great tips will store them away! @chutneypig had a 😂 moment when I read your post in haste and thought for a moment the reference to 85 was your birthday and stopped myself in time from congratulating you 😂 i have been adding quite a bit of spice in - harrisa, jerk chicken last night nearly blew my head off

I think it definitely becomes a thing where you get more used to not feeling a bit rough, despite enjoying the food...

Maybe get your ferritin looked at too?

My thyroid stopped working in my 40s but not fixed until I'd piled a load of weight on, went to bed all the time as knackered & always freezing. So had tests for menopause, was picked up then. It takes several blood tests, several months apart to notice the trend in TSH.

Then was feeling really brain foggy & achey over lockdown, so went on hrt. Definitely improved my undercarriage (hadn't realised it wasn't quite the same) & sleeping.

Now wondering if it was the iron too?
