Zoe Nutrition Testing

Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

So my accidental discovery of the week is flax seeds, ricotta and fruit (I've had raspberries and apricots so far). Tastes like cheesecake! The flax seeds add the 'crust' element. The raspberry one scored in the 90s for me and apricots in the 70s. Lovely.

Wombat27A · 13/08/2022 15:58

That sounds good. Will try that.

I bought some cottage cheese and thought it tasted fab...

Our tea last night was a BBC Food recipe for Courgettes and Halloumi.

Cook both then apply a dressing (left out capers, as I didn't have any). It was really nice.

Courgette & Halloumi thingie.

That looks lovely wombat. Very much up my street. Also I may be able to get dd2 to try as halloumi and chilli are 2 of her favourite things. Shame dh ballsed up the courgette harvest this year.

Wombat27A · 13/08/2022 17:39

I never grow courgettes properly. I haven't given plants away & those have done well but my own, nada.

Wombat27A · 13/08/2022 17:42

I have.... 🙄

OP posts:
lugeforlife · 13/08/2022 20:15

We have had years and years of gluts and dh cut the number of plants right back but the last 2 or 3 have been total failures.

My mother can be relied upon though. She'll se me right!

chutneypig · 14/08/2022 11:49

I'll give the griddled halloumi and the cheesecake a go. I start tomorrow properly so have put my shopping list together. I've had very little choice of food this week so am really looking forward to it!

Wombat27A · 14/08/2022 13:08

I put the halloumi recipe into the app & it was 74 for me, I think. I wasn't precise tho, good enough for me.

lugeforlife · 14/08/2022 14:59

I'm back to work tomorrow very sadly so will be good to see how I do in real life rather than a mixture of days out/holiday food and lots of time and space to try things out.

That will be a bit of a test I think. I am ok with lunches and dinners broadly but struggle with breakfast the most.

I averaged 68 over the last week with a few 75 plus days balanced out by a couple of dodgy days out. Not too bad for week 2 and an improvement on week 1

Wombat27A · 14/08/2022 16:39

Have lunch or dinner for breakfast?

A lot of the clean eating dudes do that. I'm more a doughnut or no breakfast person tho.

I'm cycling through yoghurt, nuts & seeds & porridge with nuts & seeds. 😁

@lugeforlife Have you ever tried chia pudding? Take an old jam jar . Put two tablespoons of chia seeds and half a cup almond milk or normal milk, stir well and leave in fridge overnight. You can add some vanilla extract if you like. The next morning, put some 100-150 grfrozen berries in a small pot and let simmer at low flame whilst you have you shower. Pour hot berries on top of cold pudding. some like it with Marple syrup, but the berry sauce is enough for me

Or do your own seed crackers and pour berries compote on top.

There is one leftover I like to have for breakfast and that is pumpkin soup. I sprinkle some shaved almonds on top. I don't put any salt / stock in that soup (half a pumpkin , 5 carrots, 1 onion, just enough water to cover the veggies, not a cm more, lid on for 45 min low flame, and put in the blender for creamy texture) .

I am so envious of you all. Can't wait for Zoe to be available in my country...

lugeforlife · 16/08/2022 13:55

Well it's not gone well! I basically appear to have given up eating...

In the good side I'm scoring above 75. On the bad side, I have skipped breakfast and not been prepared for lunch/tea. Also not moved.

Bum

BronzeSage · 16/08/2022 16:08

I'm on the list, but I wondered if it's worth the money? It seems expensive. As it happens, I got a fairly high score in the initial survey in 2020.

I don't think aanyone can decide for you.

It is for me as it confirmed something I sort of knew but didn't want to know, in that I don't process any foods well.

It's cheaper just to do the usual things, depends if they work for you?

Aw, I feel for you.

I'm not good at going out and sorting food. I was once at a Crossfit seminar with the fittest woman on the planet. Everyone else was clean eating paleo foods in pre-prepared chilled boxes. I had a scone...

Now that I have done it, I realise that I haven't really learnt anything new. I built up the whole idea of personal recommendations. The tests clarified that I already really know what kind of foods suit me and which don't. I guessed the outcome of each and was right on all of them.

Not so surprising in my sixties. I think I was expecting to have a lot of counter intuitive results.

I don't think I could have resisted doing the programme but I am sorry that i was tempted by the lower per month cost of signing up for a year.

Not sure whether I am recommending the programme or not. I would have done it anyway, but only stayed for coaching for the shortest period possible.

lugeforlife · 16/08/2022 19:56

@FinallyHere that's interesting. So far I'm finding the coaching/tracking more useful than the results tbh. The personalisation is helpful but not ground breaking (eat whole grain carbs and more f&v basically). What I do find helpful is the layering/combinations which you get from the tracking. Definitely made me make some smarter choices.

@Wombat27A I am so very very proud of you and your scone.

chutneypig · 16/08/2022 20:15

I'd agree with not finding anything particularly revolutionary on the individual food scores, by and large. I think it'll be the combining for meals and managing the odd deviation that will help me. Fingers crossed on that, only two days in on the coaching!

I'm also hoping it'll help me not focus too much on calories. I'm trying to just observe them at the end of the day.

BronzeSage · 17/08/2022 09:46

Thanks for that. I've been following the podcasts since they started and I haven't had to change much at all. I think I'll delay for now.

MassiveSalad22 · 17/08/2022 20:25

I read @MatchaTea ’s chi’s pudding rec and was going to do it (the thought has always grossed me out but I thought I’d be brave) only to find we were out of chia seeds 🙄

Oof the summer holidays are really screwing me over, no time to exercise and a lot of stress eating!! But haven’t had rubbish for ages - I’ve been stress eating healthy things but still, snacking all day can’t be healthy - but today we had biscuits in and they’ve all gone and I feel rubbish and knew I did even while I was eating them! Old news but why do I never change! September I’ll have a peaceful house so hoping that will be easier :)

Hope everyone else is plodding on ok!

Wombat27A · 17/08/2022 21:47

It's the "what the hell" concept. I can't have biscuits in the house. They come under the heading of hedonic foods for me.

It might be the extra work & a different schedule saps your executive control?

lugeforlife · 18/08/2022 19:36

You are right Wombat and I am quite proud of myself today tbh. My 4th 12 hour day this week (gotta love my job!) and I was so ready to ask dh to pick up a takeaway. But I didn't. I used some cupboard/package stuff to make something quick, tasty and would have been a 75+ if iMd have used the right rice!

Still struggling with breakfast. Am gonna knock up a chia seed pud tomorrow as suggested as unlike @MassiveSalad22, I found some at the back of the cupboard! Let's see how that goes.....

chutneypig · 18/08/2022 20:25

I daren't keep biscuits at my flat - which works ok, it's when I get home that's the problem.

I've not had a bad day, first day when I had to navigate a work event. Managed ok at the buffet, did have a drink but finished on 64, so not feeling too bad. I've just had a handful of hazelnuts instead of anything I shouldn't.

I'm having breakfast smoothies with avocado instead of banana now, comes in at 90 for me. I can't really get on with savoury breakfasts every day.

Flockameanie · 18/08/2022 20:37

How are you guys logging things when eating out/ at work events? Are you just guesstimating amounts/ ingredients?

lugeforlife · 18/08/2022 22:12

@Flockameanie I had a client lunch yesterday in an Italian so either pasta/pizza/meat (I am veggie). Lovely but not my ideal!

I picked what I thought was the closest ready meal sort of alternative. I knew it wasn't accurate but better than not logging it.
