I know there is a mumsnet runners thread but I am a total beginner, and feel a bit overawed on there as they all seem really experienced.

I am going to be following this training programme, running 3x a week, starting next week once my children are back at school. I say running, but in reality i will be starting with a brisk walk, then picking up the pace over the next couple of months.

I have registered interest in Race For life, which is may/june, and will be taking part in the harefield fun run.

Anyone want to join me

you might need insoles or something. do you have spiffy running shoes?

SparklyGothKat · 03/02/2008 21:42

yes, going to phone the GP tomorrow and try and get an appointment. I hope it heals soon, I can't believe it hurts so much. I even asked my son (who has Cerebral palsy) if it hurts when he walks, because it feels like my muscles are too tight.

MissCreant · 03/02/2008 21:42

yes, apparently you can get a running shop to look at how you land and give you the correct insoles. Will you go to the docs?

pinkspottywellies · 03/02/2008 21:43

I don't know how it's possible but I don't think it is [scared]

SparklyGothKat · 03/02/2008 21:44

I have nikes trainers, but must need more. I am one of those women who can't wear heals as well, because it hurts so much

MissCreant · 03/02/2008 21:45

does it always hurt then, not just because you've been running?

Jenkeywoo · 03/02/2008 21:47

I had really bad ankle pain last week and went to a specialist runnning shop where I was diagnosed as pronating (rolling in) and sent away with £85 of new trainers. I went out this morning and it has cured the ankle pain but after a couple of hundred metres I had excruciating pain along the outside of my sole - I could barely walk and hobbled home in tears. So it's back to the running shop this week but I feel gutted. For the first time in my entire life I have found a sport that I actually want to do and know I can't. I really enjoy running and was hoping to do a 5km at the end of March but now can barely walk. I know what you mean sparklygothkat - I feel old too. .

SparklyGothKat · 03/02/2008 21:49

no, its not been a problem, but I can't wear heels because it hurts so much the next day when I do. It started hurting on monday after I did run. BUt seems to have got worse, even though I haven't been running. If I have my Doc Martin mid-calf boots on, it feels fine

Jenkeywoo · 03/02/2008 21:49

Sparklygothkat - my dd has cerebral palsy too and I started to wonder if my feet hurt so much I wonder if she is in so much pain too. God I hope not. But her feet roll in too and I can't help feeling that she must be in pain as well.

pinkspottywellies · 03/02/2008 21:50

Aitch - don't look

SparklyGothKat · 03/02/2008 21:51

I have been unable to carry my baby downstairs because I have to hold onto the rail with both hands.
I also have really been enjoying it, and am signed up for the British heart foundation run in 21 days, I don;know if I will even be able to walk it now

SparklyGothKat · 03/02/2008 21:54

My Ds is 10 and said that it doesn't hurt.

misdee · 03/02/2008 21:56

oh poor you girls

i am getting a few pains on my shins (start of shin splints?) so am going to do all my running this week around the lakes and on fields rathwer than pounding the pavement.

my running shoes are nike running ones, with added cushioning/support.

i cant wear heels either, never have been able to. and i have dodgey ankles as well.

cant belive we are meant to be running for 20mins soon, i have completed week 2, but am not ready for week 3 just yet, so am going to hang onto week 2 for a bit longer.

i have lost 7.5lb this month, thats with slimming world diet as well.

MissCreant · 03/02/2008 21:59

Sorry to hear that, SKC, it sounds very painful. Hope your doctor can help.

SparklyGothKat · 03/02/2008 21:59

MissCreant · 03/02/2008 22:00

well done, misdee. I don't think I've lost a pound but I guess one has to eat less cake as well as run!

hunkermunker · 03/02/2008 22:02

When's the Harefield fun run, Misdee?

MissCreant · 03/02/2008 22:02

misdee · 03/02/2008 22:02

MissCreant · 03/02/2008 22:08

SparklyGothKat · 03/02/2008 22:11
