I know there is a mumsnet runners thread but I am a total beginner, and feel a bit overawed on there as they all seem really experienced.

I am going to be following this training programme, running 3x a week, starting next week once my children are back at school. I say running, but in reality i will be starting with a brisk walk, then picking up the pace over the next couple of months.

I have registered interest in Race For life, which is may/june, and will be taking part in the harefield fun run.

Anyone want to join me

MrsCarrot · 01/02/2008 10:32

LilRedWG · 01/02/2008 10:33

I need to join you ladies.

Can I ask a quick question though please? Is time or distance the easier one to do?

misdee · 01/02/2008 10:33

yes mrs C, three times a week. but if i start the week o na sunday i get 4 runs in, so one week 3 runs, one week 4 and so on lol.

4 times a week, Misdee?

I thought I was doing so well. I do not want to run at the weekend either, and preferably not Fridays so that left me with Monday/Thursdays. Hmm, maybe I need more commitment. I can barely mke the packed lunches after The Antiques roadshow so I would need a great kick up the ass to get out on a Sunday. Right, off to look at link.

THINK SLINK THINK SLINK

LilRedWG · 01/02/2008 10:54

Am downloading the MP3s now

LilRedWG · 01/02/2008 10:54

I really need to get my fitness levels back and to lose weight, so here goes.....

LilRedWG · 01/02/2008 10:56

Sorry - forgot to say thank you

AitchTwoOh · 01/02/2008 11:05

don't thank us, thank Rawb from California.

LilRedWG · 01/02/2008 11:07

Still downloading. Is the music dire?

AitchTwoOh · 01/02/2008 12:29

eeeeermmm...

lunavix · 01/02/2008 12:50

aww thanks for pointing that out misdee/aitch I read it wrong, i read it as 60 secs walk, 90 secs jogging. So i guess not too bad then. I'll aim for 7 min sat and 8 sunday and then I'll start week 1 properly next week

Duh

Catilla · 01/02/2008 14:48

Can I join in for a bit please? Have tried to download the podcast you all recommended, but none of my players can read it... it's in "m4a" format rather than mp3. Too modern! Does anyone know how I can get it in a simpler format, or convert it? Or another similar one available elsewhere?
Many thanks!

Furball · 01/02/2008 15:00

I've got a cheapo mp3 player and it works on that. I first copy it onto the computer then drag and drop it into the mp3 player when it's plugged into it.

LilRedWG · 01/02/2008 16:58

Catilla - I made that mistake too. Click on the link at the top - MP3 Podcast (or something like that) and you can download MPP3s.

Minum · 01/02/2008 19:33

I did week4 run3 today, so I'm going to do Week4 run1 tomorrow - I'm OK for weekend runs as I go before DH/DC wake up.

I really enjoyed todays run, its definately getting easier. But I do find having the headphones makes all the difference - being a naturally obedient person I wouldnt dare stop or start running before I was told to, so I find it quite easy to stick to the program

tortoise · 01/02/2008 21:12

Lilred- Thanks for pointing out mp3 link! i couldn't get the other ones either. Am downloading now.

Still don't know when i can get out but very keen to keep going. Bought some running shoes off Ebay today too!

AitchTwoOh · 01/02/2008 21:52

oh GOD i ran only about an hour after dinner tonight. i didn't think i'd eaten that much, but having bounced it up and down for half an hour i now feel righteously sick... still that's week one done.

BBBee · 02/02/2008 10:28

am going to do my first run tomorrow with podcast.

everyone tell me wonderful things about how much better it will make me feel.

i've only finished week one, bb, and apart from feeling nauseous last night i think i already am sleeping better and feel nicely stretched rather than in pain in the morning. (i mean the monring after a run, i don't wake wracked with pain every morning).
