Any top tips for removing a tampon when the string has come off?

I have just tried to remove a tampon, and the string has come off. I would like to try to get it out without going to the Drs, anyone else ever had this, and if so, what did you do?

PrismManchip · 04/01/2008 12:56

Squat down really low
Bear down
Fingers in
(I recently cut off too much mooncup stem...same problem but no grip!)

Flier · 04/01/2008 12:56

I've had this happen but luckily it wasn't too far up and was able to grab it with my nails. yuck.

can you feel the bottom of the tampon?

scorpio1 · 04/01/2008 12:56

my dp got it out

Mercy · 04/01/2008 12:57

Yes, def try squatting first

Twiggypiggy · 04/01/2008 12:57

I have had to go to Dr's and once to A & E. It is embarrassing but as twiglett says they have seen it all before.

Flllightattendant · 04/01/2008 12:58

DO NOT leave it in, I'm sure you know that...

MrsMopple · 04/01/2008 12:59

Have tried bearing down, but my nails are very short, so can;t grab it that way. WIll try again, squatting, then give the Dr a ring - it may not be an emergency, but I know it DEFINITELY can;t wait till Monday!

It has to be a deep squat
No half-hearted knees-bent-a-bit bending down

Piggy · 04/01/2008 13:01

A nurse at your surgery might be able to see you this afternoon. Give them a call and good luck!

onepieceoflollipop · 04/01/2008 13:01

Just a thought when you ring the doctor - perhaps this would be something the practice nurse could do (if you have one at your surgery?) At our surgery can be easier to get appt with the nurse and as you aren't "ill" as such...NO definitely don't leave til Monday I am sure you wouldn't!

witchandchips · 04/01/2008 13:01

do squatting thing but cough at same time

witchandchips · 04/01/2008 13:02

could a weaning spoon be of any use?

scorpio1 · 04/01/2008 13:03

and feel all around your cervix as deep as poss - they can bend up round it.

fireflyfairy2 · 04/01/2008 13:05

Bounce down in a squat and push at the same time.. push as if you were trying to poo through your cervix.... you know what I mean, I'm even doing it as I type

Good Luck

Just out of curiosity, what brand of tampon were you using?

MrsMopple · 04/01/2008 13:09

It was a Lillets applicator (I much prefer them to Tampax as I find they don't leak as much because they expand more widthways than lengthways iyswim).

squat in a bath of water??

TheGorgeousMrsSithy · 04/01/2008 13:11

tweezers, just to help get hold of it???

mrspnut · 04/01/2008 13:12

Squat in the bath or shower (to contain any mess ) and pretend that you're re-enacting the final moments of giving birth.

If you bear down and have a rootle around at the same time then it should move low enough for you to get hold of it.

If it's really not budging, try having a bath and then have another go. If you still can't get it then it does have to be a trip to the docs.

Can you tell I have experienced this

MrsMopple · 04/01/2008 13:59

Have got appt with nurse at 3pm. I can get to it, I just can't grip it enough to get it out. Did have a bit of a go with tweezers, but pinched too quickly at the wrong time... it was a bit ouch!

Ouch Mrs Mopple - this happened to a friend of mine and the nurse didn't bat an eyelid.

Reckon we can convert you to a mooncup whilst your resistance is low?.

Flllightattendant · 04/01/2008 14:13

FFF2, 'I'm even doing it as I type'

If I did that while I was typing there would be wet knickers!!!!

fireflyfairy2 · 04/01/2008 16:12

How'd it go MrsMopple??????

fireflyfairy2 · 04/01/2008 16:12

[GRIN] fa

Shaniece · 04/01/2008 16:16

This happened to my sister and she went straight to A&E as GP surgery was closed. The nurse got it out for her.

This is one reason why I don't wear tampons .
