Any top tips for removing a tampon when the string has come off?

I have just tried to remove a tampon, and the string has come off. I would like to try to get it out without going to the Drs, anyone else ever had this, and if so, what did you do?

I have other threads expat about my dodgy fanny, think 2cm protruding is about as good as it gets.

two GYN's have complimented the skill of the consultant who performed my forceps delivery .

the last one politely informed me that the fistula i sustained whilst giving birth to dd2 has fully healed.

suwoo · 04/01/2008 23:07

Please don't let that be a thread killer statement

Maidamess · 04/01/2008 23:09

Ooh, this is a bit like the thread where the ladies key snapped off in the lock. Maybe the same approach would work? Pliers??

pointydog · 04/01/2008 23:09

I have been wincing and laughing my way through this thread

Congrats on being back to normality, mopple

i would have said get yourself in litho position and have your partner go in there looking for it with a pair of tweezers, but then again, i have a DH who is equally unsqueamish about the human body .

PurlyQueen · 04/01/2008 23:20

Oh god - this happened to me about 15 years ago. I went to A&E and a doc removed it without complaint. Had to wait a while though, which was understandable

expatinscotland · 04/01/2008 23:24

what do they do, just make you put you feet up and then go in there with the tweezers?

i've never had anything like that stuck up me, though, tbh.

bookwormmum · 05/01/2008 13:32

Expat - if that had happened to me with x bf then he'd take me to hospital to get it removed by them after probably fainting first at the thought of me on a period . He doesn't do bodily fluids and he can't even bear to hear the word 'blood'.

An ex-boyfriend once made love to his then girlfriend (my predecessor), when she had forgotten that she had a tampon in. It was pushed out of range. He was a star, apparently. 'I'm going in,' he said. If I'm not back in an hour, fetch a policeman.

He managed to get it out.

PMSL Threadworm.

One of my male friends is a bit of a tart and said he had a woman once who was so capacious that he needed a plank strapped to his back...

PurlyQueen · 06/01/2008 00:29

They used the equipment that they use for a smear to open me up (sorry!!) and then they removed the tampon.
My main memory of the journey to hospital was that it was extremely uncomfortable because the tampon had wedged itself somehow and I couldn't sit down properly.

Twinklemegan · 06/01/2008 00:47

OMG, does this really happen? I thought it was just me being paranoid.

Janni · 06/01/2008 01:05

God - that's me well and truly going back to good old sanitary towels. I can well imagine forgetting one and leaving it there till next month's period!!

nodder · 06/01/2008 01:19

At our local clinic they will pull the tampon so it is nearly out and leave you to go to the lav to pull the rest out, as apparently they really stink.
