I woke up completely blind in left eye, should my husband stay home?

I woke up this morning completely blind in my left eye, the vision is coming back now, I’m terrified. My husband and I car share and he’s going to work in a minute and we have a young baby and don’t have any family nearby. Should my husband stay home? I’m really worried and feel I need to see a doctor but hour doctor surgery is too far to walk so I won’t be able to see anyone if he takes the car

He wants to go to work and for me to keep an “eye” on it

Update added by MNHQ - the OP HAS gone to A&E

The same happened to me a few years ago. You need to go to A&E not the optician! It turned out to be my brain so don't leave it please.

milcal · 28/02/2022 08:05

It could be many things and one of the first symptoms of MS. Then again it could be nothing. Best thing is to get it checked out today.

Good luck 💐

ImAvingOops · 28/02/2022 08:05

What the hell is wrong with some husbands? Bet he wouldn't be merrily trotting off to work if this had happened to him!

chocorabbit · 28/02/2022 08:06

@tara66

Go to an EYE Hospital - like Morefield Hospital or Western Eye Hospital - in London. Find one near you.
Oh God! I know someone who went to Morefield, was told that he most probably has had a stroke, threw massive tantrums later at A&E not wanting to be examined any further and wanted to return home and a few days later the stroke effects were irreversible: he can't eat and needs a team of people to take him to the toilet. In fact, A&E were happy in the first place to let him go and did not perform any checks for a stroke as he never told them about the eye hospital.

I know! OP, it's your eyes. You must get seen. He must take it seriously.
Booboo24 · 28/02/2022 08:07

Please don't go to an optician, they'll refer you straight to eye casualty anyway as yours is a 'red flag' symptom. I really hope you're on your way now....

MajesticElephant · 28/02/2022 08:07

I hope you are in A&E right now OP. This happened to my mum and it was a stroke.

purplesequins · 28/02/2022 08:08

you need to see a dr straight away.
a colleague had this and it turned out to be a tia.
is on medication for that now.

Lettucebegin · 28/02/2022 08:09

I had this when my kids were very little. It turned out to be MS which can flare up after a baby. Please go and get it checked, it's urgent. Your husband needs to take you, driving yourself us dangerous.

Chloesss · 28/02/2022 08:09

Thanks everyone, I am at A&E as told by 111. My vision is almost back to normal but very worried as I was completely blind in one eye for a while.

Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious. And I made my husband stay home and look after baby

X

Glad to hear it op.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 28/02/2022 08:13

You have done the right thing OP. I had the same many years ago and it turned out to be migraine .Comes and goes very very rarely.
All the best for your diagnosis.

LadyPenelope68 · 28/02/2022 08:15

You need to go to A&E urgently, not wait for a GP surgery to open!

She did.

Glad you’re being checked out.

gogohm · 28/02/2022 08:18

Not sure where in the country you are but In Bristol you go to the bri if it's eyes because it's close to the eye hospital and you can easily transfer if needed

dollymuchymuchness · 28/02/2022 08:19

Great that you’re there @Chloesss. Let us know how you get on.

DameHelena · 28/02/2022 08:19

Good for you, OP. Hope it turns out to be minor.

speakout · 28/02/2022 08:20

Glad you are at A&E

PegasusReturns · 28/02/2022 08:22

Glad you’re getting checked.
Hopefully your DHs reaction was a moment of unthinking not part of a usual pattern of being dismissive.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/02/2022 08:22

good to know
best of luck

Herewegoagain84 · 28/02/2022 08:24

Glad you’re getting checked. I’m sorry to hear your had to make your DH stay home with your baby, rather than him whisking the baby away for you to be seen as your health is a priority…

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 28/02/2022 08:24

Really hope you are okay op and it turns out to be something minor

After this, perhaps it is time to talk to dh, is he normally like this? His response was not great - just leaving you with such a potentially serious medical problem.

Actually, the eye hospital in Bristol has it's own a&e. I only know as I stabbed my eye with a bamboo cane the other week and I staggered in there. They were brilliant and saw me within 5 minutes.
Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 28/02/2022 08:26

A&E now I’m afraid. Could be a variety of things but one or two of those things could be very serious. Sorry.

SouperNoodle · 28/02/2022 08:26

Glad you've gone to A&E. Hope you're ok x
