I woke up completely blind in left eye, should my husband stay home?

I woke up this morning completely blind in my left eye, the vision is coming back now, I’m terrified. My husband and I car share and he’s going to work in a minute and we have a young baby and don’t have any family nearby. Should my husband stay home? I’m really worried and feel I need to see a doctor but hour doctor surgery is too far to walk so I won’t be able to see anyone if he takes the car

He wants to go to work and for me to keep an “eye” on it

Update added by MNHQ - the OP HAS gone to A&E

Do you have an eye A&E style clinic? We have one at our local hospital.

Do you wear contact lenses?

I've woken like this twice in the past - no vision on in one eye. I had bacterial ulcer on my each each time which required eye drops every hour for a day, then less frequently for the following days.

Dh did take me to and from the hospital, as I wouldn't have been able to drive/get myself there due to reduced vision. Once home though I didn't need him to stay with me as I did have vision in the other eye.

Bagelsandbrie · 28/02/2022 07:35

(I have retinal issues and the general advice is to look for floaters and flashing lights and in the advanced stages a black curtain coming over the eye - this generally gets worse, not better, and retinal tears or detachment needs urgent emergency treatment).

Guavaf1sh · 28/02/2022 07:35

Amaurosis fugax is usually first seen by Optom/ophthalmic staff to rule out eye pathology before handing to TIA team after a few tests have been done. Totally pointless going straight to A and E

Booboo24 · 28/02/2022 07:39

Sudden change in vision (ie. nothing nearly as serious as blindness) is considerd an emergency, call your local eye casualty department. Your husband WILL need to druve you to the appointment, you aren't safe to drive like that even if it's returned. Also they'll probably put dilation fluid in your eyes so you wouldn't be allowed to drive afterwards anyway for up to 4 hours. Please don't leave this. Good luck

GO TO A&E IMMEDIATELY

DH needs to take you ASAP. Hopefully you're on the way already.

hopeishere · 28/02/2022 07:45

This happened DH it was a bleed in his eye. He went to eye casualty.

You really need to see a doctor asap.

Musicaltheatremum · 28/02/2022 07:45

Don't go to GP we aren't geared up for eyes. Eye problems should go to opticians or sudden sight loss a&e / eye hospital.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/02/2022 07:47

I'd go to an optician if I could be seen very quickly.

OP you must NOT drive so doesn't matter if your dh takes the car or not.

Get seen asap.

ThisIsGroundControl · 28/02/2022 07:48

Calm down MissTrip82 it isn't unreasonable to suggest an eye hospital, or any medical setting, the only dangerous advice is from her husband.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/02/2022 07:49

an optician is great advice if you can walk there

ittakes2 · 28/02/2022 07:49

You need urgent medical help you could have dettached your retina and if this is the case you would need emergency surgery to resolve the problem - delaying it will affect the future of your sight. Google moorfields eye hospital its free and on the NHS or call 111 for advice.

IrisAtwood · 28/02/2022 07:50

I was already in hospital for something unrelated when I experienced partial loss of sight very suddenly. It turned out to be visual migraine but was treated as an emergency by my medical team.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 28/02/2022 07:50

Could be TIA/MS/detached retina/tumour/ migraine etc etc. you seriously need checking out.

crosbystillsandmash · 28/02/2022 07:50

To echo others, this is a medical emergency.
Don't bother with your gp, you need to visit eye casualty asap.

3luckystars · 28/02/2022 07:51

Good luck at the hospital.

ittakes2 · 28/02/2022 07:51

I also second don't bother with normal A&E unless they also have a specialist eye unit as they will likely refer you. Either an opt or the NHS eye A&E department.

SleepingStandingUp · 28/02/2022 07:53

He needs to drive you to A&E and look after your baby

TroysMammy · 28/02/2022 07:55

Blurred vision, loss of vision, double vision needs an Optician in the first instance not a Doctor. But considering what time it is as Opticians won't be open until 9am you need to ring 111 immediately.

FindingMeno · 28/02/2022 07:55

No he can't go to work.
He needs to take you to A&E.
Hope it all turns out ok Flowers

BooksAndHooks · 28/02/2022 07:56

I can’t believe people are saying let him go to work and see if it gets worse. This is an elven y. It could just be a migraine but could be lots of other serious things. This is A&E job not GP.

xxxsuper · 28/02/2022 07:56

I hope you have taken the advice to get this seen OP Thanks

Loopyloulou007 · 28/02/2022 07:59

Have you gone on the pill, after your baby was born. I had a paralysis migraine and went completely blind, on mine. Standing in the street and my eyesight just went, looked like heavy snow and I just couldn't see through it, just falling down my eyes.

They took me off it immediately and ,my sight came back.

Get yourself to an opticians, rather than hospital, who will refer you immediately to an eye hospital, not sure you can just walk in like an A&E, they will contact them for an immediate appointment.

Totalwasteofpaper · 28/02/2022 07:59

YOU NEED TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY

This can very much be something (very serious) and nothing

Reassuring story
It happened to a coworker of mine he was losing vision on and off over 48 hours for hours at a time. He was Fully checked out at Moorfields they found nothing his sight returned and he is absolutely fine.

Good luck Flowers

dollymuchymuchness · 28/02/2022 08:02

We have an eye casualty at our local hospital. This is definitely where I would go.

Your eyes are very precious @Chloesss, don’t take any chances, get seen NOW.

Houstonjane · 28/02/2022 08:02

I have only just logged on to Mums Net and I hope you have already taken appropriate action.
I think you should get yourself to hospital immediately, go to the Accident and Emergency Department. Get a cab, your husband should have driven you there.
I am not medically trained but that is what I would do in these circumstances.
