For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Local rare breed farm?
A national museum? (they're free, we're lucky to have 3 in easy striking distance)
I loved going to industrial museums at that age
Bowling?
Just a few ideas for you

TooTickyDoves · 29/12/2007 16:31

Oh yes, Brokerswood. Don't they have new play equipment?
I'm cowardly about swimming, especially in winter. I spend the whole session holding onto dd2, then the changing rooms are generally freezing and I have to dress 2 dcs before myself
Last time we went to Tidworth - have you been there? - it is huge and draughty. Our lips turned blue.

TooTickyDoves · 29/12/2007 16:33

We know our local museum rather well.
Dd1 and ds2 are at the age where farm-type places are a bit dull
I've never actually been bowling. Is it good? I wouldn't know what to do

Grouchyoscar · 29/12/2007 16:52

Where are you geographically?

DS went to a Tropical World type thing with his school and loved it

TooTickyDoves · 29/12/2007 16:53

We're in west Wilts.

Grouchyoscar · 29/12/2007 16:54

And bowling is fun but I've never been with a DC. A friend of mine had 2 DSs who loved it.

And I bet they are used to novices and would give you pointers.

Grouchyoscar · 29/12/2007 16:57

Is that the Cotswolds?

We are in West Yorks. DS adores trains and loves Mallard. York Railway museum is only a £10 train ride away and it's free and DS gets to kiss his special train

TooTickyDoves · 29/12/2007 17:01

Not quite Cotswolds. Not far from Bath.

Grouchyoscar · 29/12/2007 17:01

But that's no use to you is it?

Sorry getting a bit carried away there
I really want to do a special visit somewhere as a family before DS starts school next term

TooTickyDoves · 29/12/2007 17:03

Dd1 used to be mad about trains. And ds2 once had a birthday trip to Swindon railway museum when they had a Thomas event...bit of a rip off for a 2 minute ride! Museum was quite good though.

Have you been to the West Somerset Railway? It's very good - 20 miles long and by the sea.

Grouchyoscar · 29/12/2007 17:03

The Georgian Terraces in Bath are fantastic.

Are you near any of the Brunel stuff?

TooTickyDoves · 29/12/2007 17:06

There's the Suspension bridge in Bristol...near the zooo...nooooooooo!
Have to go to Bristol on one of the days to visit my grandmother.

Grouchyoscar · 29/12/2007 17:13

The West Somerset sounds fab. We have the North Yorks Moors railway that they use in Heartbeat and Keigley Worth Valley that they used in The Railway Children

oops, this has turned into a 'My favourite Railway Journeys' thread rather than a 10/10 thing, sorry

TooTickyDoves · 29/12/2007 17:14

We're members of English Heritage and I sometimes find myself flicking through the handbook hankering after the exciting looking places in Yorkshire, Northumberland, Kent, Cornwall...

TooTickyDoves · 29/12/2007 17:14

And of course, trains are the ideal place to eat lots of fruit.
There. Justified

Grouchyoscar · 29/12/2007 17:16

Scarborough Castle is good, we went there this year (Pics on my profile)

TooTickyDoves · 29/12/2007 17:18

Lovely pics

TooTickyDoves · 29/12/2007 17:33

GrouchyOscar, have just made you one of my mates so you can see my (rather mad!) pics

TooTicky · 29/12/2007 17:35

Now thast my profile is visible again, that is.

ahundredtimes · 29/12/2007 17:59

TooT things to do:

best thing EVER is SS Great Britain in Bristol - don't know how expensive but tickets last a year. Is tip top.

Bristol Museum - lots of egyptian things there at the mo.

Victoria Art Gallery, Bath - sometimes worth a gander and then take a walk by the river, and go round the maze thing. Or the Holbourn, and then play in Sydney Gardens and look at the trains going by.

We like English Heritage Farleigh Hungerford Castle, for the running about in the ruins.

Nunney?

Stourhead?

Or a walk through the ford at Wellow, and then up the hill to the Long Barrow - take torches and dcs love exploring inside the Long Barrow and playing games in there.

Does any of that help?

fullmoonfiend · 29/12/2007 18:13

ooh Grouchy! I'll play favourite railways with you! (2 boys, see..)

Though don't talk to me about NRM . 10 years' of parenting boys means I have spent more of my life than I care to think about glumly following boys round muttering ''Oh yes. The Mallard. Again. Wow. Oh The Rocket. You don't say...etc''
My all-time personal low has to be spending Mother's Day there once.

Franny who??

Oh, hello stranger

pinkspottywellies · 29/12/2007 19:36

Hello! Just had half a roasted butternut squash with stuffing and salmon. Had 2 portions at lunch and juice this morning. so 4. Not very good. I might have some raisins so that I at least make 5 I did half an hour of yoga last night and was surprised how flexible I still am after not doing any for ages

Stourhead's nice but we were shocked at the price when we went. But it's English Heritage isn't it? And did you say you're a member TooT?

We popped out to buy a toy box (just plastic storage boxes!) this afternoon and ended up spending about 4 hours shopping! Urgh. Had to take a Christmas present back to next that dd got two of. It's horrible in there. And people queue to get in there for the sale. Urgh!

fullmoonfiend · 29/12/2007 19:44

What are these sales you speak of???

Can I ask your opinions here please???

what would you do?
