Just that really. Feeling very sore and very sorry for myself.... Had to do a load of travelling yesterday which was really knackering and painful and meant I couldn't rest - though did drink litres of water...

Wondering if I need antibioltics. Urge is not quite as bad but its all pretty sore and I feel really rough... Do I attempt 111 or hang on for GP tomorrow morning and join the Monday morning phone rush...?

Many pharmacists can now give antibiotics for UTIs under certain strict protocols. I would go there first.

colouringindoors · 14/11/2021 10:43

Oh thanks, I didn't know that - will see which of mine are open

Get some d mannose from Amazon it's amazing as preventative or take as soon as you feel a sting but if it's really bad antibiotics.

colouringindoors · 14/11/2021 10:44

Is that in England, just to clarify?

I think superdrug

Bagelsandbrie · 14/11/2021 10:45

I’d ring 111. They can send a prescription through to your local pharmacy for you to pick up.

Nitgel · 14/11/2021 10:45

I have similar and use the Boots online service its £22 though gone up. Private prescription service.

Whataday21 · 14/11/2021 10:45

Or contact 111 for a script. Don't leave it. I hear bicarbonate of soda in water is good but am not a medical person.

Annunciataz · 14/11/2021 10:46

Do get antibiotics OP. I ignored cystitis once, only to end up in hospital for days with a kidney infection.

LindyLou2020 · 14/11/2021 10:51

Only you can know if you can hang on till tomorrow.
I'm a long time sufferer of uti's.
The only remedy that ever works for me is antibiotics.
I've had weekend uti's before, and phoned 111 because the pain was just intolerable and excruciating.
111 have then organised an appointment with a doctor at the Out of Hours GP/Walk-In Centre at our main local hospital.
The doctors have done the dipstick tests and then prescribed antibiotics - testing of course being necessary to check if it's an infection or not.
That's the system where I live anyway.
But whatever you decide, keep drinking lots of water Flowers

If you have a large boots with a pharmacy open today you may be able to sort in person.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 14/11/2021 10:55

Get a prescription sent to your pharmacy today. You don't need an appointment. I had one from Monday to Friday and tried riding it out as I also don't like the effects of antibiotics but that was a mistake. By Friday morning I felt terrible and was scared it went to my kidneys.

JollyJoon · 14/11/2021 10:57

Bicarb clears mine right up

SnowWhitesSM · 14/11/2021 10:58

You can get those cranberry sachets from the chemist that help. But yes ring 111 and see if you need a prescription as UTIs can be serious if they travel upwards.

colouringindoors · 14/11/2021 11:27

thank you all so much xx

cannot even get through to 111.

went to Boots - said try online pharmacy as pp above linked so will do that.

D mannose will really help. Start with a big dose and then a lower dose for a week.

If you suffer a lot. Take after sex and if you feel that slight sting.

LurkinMerkin · 14/11/2021 14:30

Another vote for Dmannose, it's honestly changed my life after well over a decade of Being plagued by UTIs. I take 2 high strength tablets every day, a small price to pay to avoid rounds of antibiotics- I get mine via a seller on eBay, but other options available. Wish I'd found it sooner. If you feel an attack coming then increase dose and take every few hours with water, then into maintenance, I've not needed antibiotics in years. Just incredible and there are legitimate studies underway to look at it as a way to reduce antibiotic dependence. Hope you get it sorted x

colouringindoors · 14/11/2021 15:59

I've taken 2 doses of the D-Mannose, think it may be helping a bit. Just got confirnation that Boots online pharmacy will prescribe me Nitrofurantoin so will take that too. But really good to know about the Mannose as would like to keep having sex with new man, but this is what happened after first time despite all the precautions (peeing before and after etc!) annoyingly!!!

Hurrah. Honestly I dont know why doctors don't just give out d mannose. It's a game changer

colouringindoors · 15/11/2021 13:20

How long before I should feel the benefits of the AB? Nitrofurantoin? Have taken 3 100mg tablets - have a 3 day course of 6. Still taking 2g d-mannose a day. Still pretty sore despite paracetamol and ibuprofeb...

OP posts:
indigoemerald · 15/11/2021 13:28

I agree that D Mannose is amazing. I take D Mannose if I “feel the twinge” and it stops the infection getting any worse. I haven’t had to get antibiotics for years!
