Cysitis since Fri pm... what's best to do?

Just that really. Feeling very sore and very sorry for myself.... Had to do a load of travelling yesterday which was really knackering and painful and meant I couldn't rest - though did drink litres of water...

Wondering if I need antibioltics. Urge is not quite as bad but its all pretty sore and I feel really rough... Do I attempt 111 or hang on for GP tomorrow morning and join the Monday morning phone rush...?

@LurkinMerkin could you please let me know which DMannose tablets you buy please? I usually get the powder from Sweet Cures but my goodness it's eye wateringly expensive.

D-Mannose is a wonder drug. I used to get UTIs about once every six months, and since starting D-Mannose I've only had one. I started off taking one tablet a day, and another tablet just before sex. After using it regularly for about a year, I now take it just before sex. It's also got rid of my bladder irritation that I used to get after eating spicy food or drinking too much tea.

Just a thought, I found myself in a similar situation with my new partner. Had reoccurring symptoms since June dip test and lab test showed nothing. Turned out to be urethritis caused by some vigorous action Blushwhich I had to take 2 full weeks trimethoprim to clear

Thanks so much all. Yes I think I will have to get in some lube even though it's not been essential, maybe it'll help!

If I need antibiotics for anything my GP gives me a pre-emptive treatment in rhe form of a pessary to prevent thrush. My immune system's a bit knackered, in my defence.

I got cystitis and got 1 sachet with about 2tsps of fruity powder. Knocked it on the head straight away. Will see if I can get some mannose.

Hello head! I get mine from 5greens on eBay- not sure how it compares but I get 120 of these for 12.99 but buy 3x and so get 10% discount. I take 2 a day.

You'll need antibiotics, phone DR asap.

Meanwhile drink lots of cranberry juice , lots of water, and avoid coffee, tea and alcohol . Take paracetamol for pain.

Pacidove · 22/11/2021 00:16

I usually have 1tsp of bicarbonate of soda mixed with a glass of water (neck it, it's vile!) and then plenty more water. Seems to head it off at the pass but if it's gone beyond that point then antibiotics are probably the best bet

Kwackerly · 22/11/2021 03:42

Agree d-mannose is an excellent help. I always have Azo tablets ready too in case I do get an attack and am waiting for antibiotics, they are amazing and completely get rid of the pain, such a huge relief when you are suffering.

@colouringindoors

Nospringchix thanks so much. That's really helpful. I got this UTI after finally having sex with new man following many years of celibacy! I did use to get them when with ex... so I will def try and speak to GP re your suggestion - I really don't want this to stop me from finally having a good sex life! But god UTIs are miserable...
You're welcome. Your situation sounds exactly the same as mine. I've since tried just having the nitrofurantoin after sex and it still works really well for me. Good luck with your GP.
colouringindoors · 25/11/2021 18:08

@Nospringchix would you mind telling me the dose of nitrofurantoin you take as a one off? GP practice snowed under, but Boots Online Doc prescribe it via private prescription - quite like to get some in as a back up...

I think it's the 100mg modified release ones recently, but the 50mg ordinary ones have worked in the past.
