Just that really. Feeling very sore and very sorry for myself.... Had to do a load of travelling yesterday which was really knackering and painful and meant I couldn't rest - though did drink litres of water...

Wondering if I need antibioltics. Urge is not quite as bad but its all pretty sore and I feel really rough... Do I attempt 111 or hang on for GP tomorrow morning and join the Monday morning phone rush...?

So I had 3 day course of Nitrofurantin. Took last one Tue night. Don't feel ill now. But still everything is very sore and I constantly feel the need to empty my bladder. It's not improving. Ring GP?

Another vote for bicarbonate of soda here, it clears mine up within just a few hours.

Yes! My GP gave me a 7 day course. She said take minimum 3 days but keep taking if you don't feel better. I did 4 days.

I used to have regular bouts of cystitis and used this home remedy from Angela Kilmartin's book Understanding Cystitis. I put the bicarb in a glass of weak orange squash.
Drink 1/2 pint of water every 20 minutes. Each hour for 3 hours take a level teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to lessen the burning sensation. Keep very warm and wash the perineum front to back after every visit to the lavatory.

Are you still in the d mannose?

Whataday21 · 19/11/2021 04:44

Most people are now resistant to that first line antibiotic. It does nothing for me. Get a script today for a different one.

Draggondragon · 19/11/2021 06:34

Edoctors is so much easier. You don't have to beg for basic medical help.

Yes I'm still taking that. I'm not sure i still have an infection, but can't face another weekend like last one. In the past things have taken a while to totally calm down after an infection, so I'm praying that's what's going on.

@Draggondragon

What are the costs like?I really don't want to be in this position again.

colouringindoors · 19/11/2021 11:54

Whataday21 I'm trying. Can't even get to speak to a doctor til a nurse has dipped my sample Sad

I always get thrush from antibiotics to the point where I end up with a prescription fit both 'just in case'

Whataday21 · 19/11/2021 11:57

I think it's macrobid that is more effective. You could pick up a thrush tablet too. I used to get utis all the time, it's awful. I used to buy my own Siemens dip strips.

Draggondragon · 19/11/2021 11:57

About 50 all in depending on the company.

colouringindoors · 19/11/2021 20:44

Ended up paying for a private gp appt via

thegpservice.co.uk.

10 min video appt with lovely female gp. thorough chat. she suspects infection not cleared. prescribed a week of cephalexin, suggested i get a thrush treatment. Prescription was at my Boots a couple of hours later. Really good service. £40. I would def do that again. I know a UTI is not serious, but I've had an awful 8 days. I had to take time off work which has triggered an absence monitoring procedure which is stressful. I love the NHS but I'm dealing with so much else in my life, I need better basic healthcare than I've had over the last 8 days

If you have repeated cystitis it is worth getting samples tested so that you can ask for prophylactic antibiotics to prevent recurrent infections, if the infections are confirmed. So whatever else you do contact GP and get sample tested, every time it happens.

whenwillthemadnessend · 19/11/2021 23:39

I hope that works for you Thanks

QueenofDestruction · 19/11/2021 23:49

I have just gone to doctor and got antibiotics and the advise he gave was that when it starts drink lots of water and have a glass of water with 0,5 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda a 3x day,

QueenofDestruction · 19/11/2021 23:50

Although not NHS but doctor in spain.

Nospringchix · 20/11/2021 18:16

Hi OP, You have my sympathy, UTIs can be so sore. I used to suffer with them all of the time, in fact everytime I had sex. I needed 7 days worth of antibiotics every time to clear them up.
A few years ago my dp had to see a urologist about a problem he was having so he took the opportunity to mention the issues I was having.

He recommended antibiotics before and after sex so I asked my gp who was brilliant and agreed to prescribe nitrofurantoin for me to keep at home. It completely worked for me and I've been free of UTIs for years nowSmile .
Might be worth keeping an eye on things in case this is the cause 9f your problem, and if so talk to your GP.

colouringindoors · 21/11/2021 19:34

Nospringchix thanks so much. That's really helpful. I got this UTI after finally having sex with new man following many years of celibacy! I did use to get them when with ex... so I will def try and speak to GP re your suggestion - I really don't want this to stop me from finally having a good sex life! But god UTIs are miserable...
