I will preface this with...IT'S NOT COVID.

Also this is a massive "woe is me" whinge and no I don't expect a diagnosis.

I'm honestly at the end of my tether now. In fact I was a few days ago so I'm now just at the crying point.

Whole family have been ill with some kind of respiratory shit. Smallest in hospital for a night but now recovering well. I first started getting ill around 12 days ago but kept going into work and working (we had too many people off with covid). When I began to feel REALLY ill until I was roundly sent home. Have been off since. Everyone else is getting better but feel like absolute shit still.

I have yet to go to a doctor. What's the point! Ive yet to go to a doctor who has been remotely interested in a chest infection or a cough, even pre covid.

Symptoms are:

  • A cough so dire it makes me wet myself and wretch. I can't sleep. Even sitting up doesn't help.
  • The cough means my throat is red and sore.
  • I've got a banging bloody headache.
  • Cough goes between a wet cough to a horrible dry one.
  • today I can't talk as it triggers coughing. I can feel my chest is sore and tight. However I'm not wheezing so I assume the doctor won't give a shit. I've had years of doctors dismissing me because my chest sounds clear Confused

The cough and the hideous symptoms have been in full force since about Wednesday and honestly don't feel like I'm getting better.

I will phone the doctors tomorrow but only because I'm so exhausted and ill I think I will need a doctors note for work soon.

However, as I say, it seems pointless as no doctor has ever seemed concerned.

I don't know what I want. Is this just a bad cold going round? Anyone else suffering?

I've got tonnes of support with kids so I'm actually getting plenty of rest now. However allowing myself to get stressed and overworked in the run up to this probably hasn't helped.

Oh and blocked ears and dizzy spells too Smile

I assume you had a negative PCR? Not much you can do really other than rest and lots of fluids. Sounds horrible. Hope you feel better soon.

CompletelyFuckedOff · 03/10/2021 14:02

My whole family have negative PCR which is why I added my preface that it isn't covid!

Oh lovely.

I'm joining in the woe is me too.

I've got Covid, but have exactly what you describe. I've had it for over a week and I rang my doctors. They've put me on antibiotics for the cough as they were concerned about a secondary infection.
I've also been signed off work for two weeks.
Don't dismiss the drs. They may be helpful.

Blinkingbatshit · 03/10/2021 14:04

Did they test your smallest in hospital for whooping cough? Took a consultant to diagnose my dh….dr just kept saying it was a random virus. My kids who were vaccinated against it came down with it too so don’t assume it can’t be. The cough can be so severe as to induce headaches/vomiting etc, all sorts of other symptoms too. Bad news is it takes AGES to go😬….if you don’t get respite soon I’d very much ask them to test…

CompletelyFuckedOff · 03/10/2021 14:05

To be honest had it not been for a million negative LTFs and negative PCRs I would be convinced it was covid. Apparently not though! I'm going to phone then tomorrow but I hold little hope. I think I'm starting to worry I've got pneumonia or something. I obviously don't or I would be wheezing away!

CompletelyFuckedOff · 03/10/2021 14:06

Did they test your smallest in hospital for whooping cough?

No the only test they did was a covid test and then just kept him in overnight to monitor his breathing. Nothing else, no antibiotics or anything. He is much better now. I'm the one who seems to not be able to shift it and the coughing is really upsetting me now.

Also sending sympathy for everyone else who is fucked off!

TheQueef · 03/10/2021 14:09

I've had the shitty supercold too.
Many, many tests confirm no covid.
It's been over three weeks and still the head and throat, still change symptoms every two days and have to take decongestant and paracetamol.
Second week I honestly thought I had whooping cough.
It's shite Brew

Tigger83 · 03/10/2021 14:09

I've got it too as have my whole family it's bloody awful. I would have sworn it was covid too.

poohaloo · 03/10/2021 14:10

Yes! I had the weird ear thing with sore throat and cough for 2 weeks..
it's gone now thank goodness 😅

Just some horrible bug going around... the kids we're all fine

StCharlotte · 03/10/2021 14:13

You have my sympathy. I have similar. The sleeping sitting up wasn't working anymore.

Last night I went to bed with a Lemsip (any hot drink will do) and once the cough was relatively "calm" I laid on my front which helped massively. When I woke myself coughing it was because I'd turned on to my side.

perversely smoking eases it too

poohaloo · 03/10/2021 14:13

Most of the school had covid 😬 but none of us did... so maybe my body mutated it into a bloody god awful cold ear yuck thing

ImFree2doasiwant · 03/10/2021 14:16

I've got this too. I went to the Dr last week, chest infection, like oxygen levels, given antibiotics. I've neay finished the course and feel no better.

ImFree2doasiwant · 03/10/2021 14:16

liw oxygen

ItsSnowJokes · 03/10/2021 14:18

I had this in July. I was convinced it was covid but 6 pcr tests said not!

The only thing that worked for me was night nurse at night and also broncho stop cough medicine. I still coughed a lot but not as bad.

Hope you get better soon.

CompletelyFuckedOff · 03/10/2021 14:20

The thing is I've been ill so long that I'm starting to wonder if I should another PCR?! Is it worth it? I'm starting to wonder if I started off with one thing and now have ended up with another? Or covid?!

Glad there are lots of you suffering with me Grin I honestly might need to get sign off. I haven't been this ill in...well, ever really!

OP posts:
Groovee · 03/10/2021 14:21

I had bronchitis like this 2 years ago.

Parky04 · 03/10/2021 14:23

My DW has this. Has now lasted for 10 days with not much improvement.

CompletelyFuckedOff · 03/10/2021 14:24

I'm the hospital they said my baby could have bronchiolitis. However nobody was really interested in a proper diagnosis, just wanted his oxygen levels to be ok.

MrsKellySeveride · 03/10/2021 14:27

Our household has had this exact same thing - dreadful death cough (DS had a raw, sore throat but I escaped that), awful headache, nose running like a garden hose, so short of breath but not wheezing, completely deaf in 1 ear but negative for covid.
I'm asthmatic so bronchodilators have eased the shortness of breath slightly and paracetamol took the edge off the headache but otherwise still riding it out nearly 2 weeks later.

It's shit and makes you realise how quickly viruses can spread through an entire family - DS came home from a premier league match with a sore throat, the next day was like death warmed up, 2 days later the whole family were planning their own funerals.

Get well soon, OP Smile

GetDrunkWithMe · 03/10/2021 14:29

Yep my family have it too. It's not covid as it's negative.... I'm wondering if it's a strain of covid the tests can't pick up?
We've been so unwell, litteratly I've been sick because I can't stop coughing to catch my breath so have my children. Temperatures, it's been two weeks and we still all feel like crap. Confused

CompletelyFuckedOff · 03/10/2021 14:32

God I really can't take another week of this and work will be properly pissed off ShockSadSad

OP posts:
CompletelyFuckedOff · 03/10/2021 14:33

I wonder if it could be a new variant.

Let's be honest though, we've all been really poorly in the winter before...it could just be a bloody horrible infection and our immune systems are all shit now Angry
