I will preface this with...IT'S NOT COVID.

Also this is a massive "woe is me" whinge and no I don't expect a diagnosis.

I'm honestly at the end of my tether now. In fact I was a few days ago so I'm now just at the crying point.

Whole family have been ill with some kind of respiratory shit. Smallest in hospital for a night but now recovering well. I first started getting ill around 12 days ago but kept going into work and working (we had too many people off with covid). When I began to feel REALLY ill until I was roundly sent home. Have been off since. Everyone else is getting better but feel like absolute shit still.

I have yet to go to a doctor. What's the point! Ive yet to go to a doctor who has been remotely interested in a chest infection or a cough, even pre covid.

Symptoms are:

  • A cough so dire it makes me wet myself and wretch. I can't sleep. Even sitting up doesn't help.
  • The cough means my throat is red and sore.
  • I've got a banging bloody headache.
  • Cough goes between a wet cough to a horrible dry one.
  • today I can't talk as it triggers coughing. I can feel my chest is sore and tight. However I'm not wheezing so I assume the doctor won't give a shit. I've had years of doctors dismissing me because my chest sounds clear Confused

The cough and the hideous symptoms have been in full force since about Wednesday and honestly don't feel like I'm getting better.

I will phone the doctors tomorrow but only because I'm so exhausted and ill I think I will need a doctors note for work soon.

However, as I say, it seems pointless as no doctor has ever seemed concerned.

I don't know what I want. Is this just a bad cold going round? Anyone else suffering?

I've got tonnes of support with kids so I'm actually getting plenty of rest now. However allowing myself to get stressed and overworked in the run up to this probably hasn't helped.

I saw this on an Instagram account im following, we’ve also had something similar.

Epidummyology

This sounds very like what I had. Right down to the retching (actually threw up a couple of times) and wetting myself!! Not really a headache though. And I'm never ill. Literally. Very sad to have broken my lifetime clam of never having been ill. It lasted 2 weeks. Miserable. But it did stop. I just treated symptoms as well as I could. Also got negative PCR.

caringcarer · 05/10/2021 10:27

My dh had similar. He had a positive LF test, then went for PCR test but that was negative. He remained ill for about a fortnight coughing fits, sore throat and feeling tired and weak. He had 2 weeks off work. He never stays home so he must have felt crap. He went back to work but now he is drained every day. Coughing mostly stopped now. His GP said it was respiratory infection.

Shimmyshimmycocobop · 05/10/2021 10:34

I have this too, cold and cough last week, LFT's and PCR negative so went back to work.
Got worse from Sunday when I think it became sinusitis and now off work. Have pulled muscles from coughing so much and feeling quite sorry for myself , may call GP tomorrow if I have another bad night.

CornishGem1975 · 05/10/2021 10:38

No advice but all the sympathy. My oldest kids and myself are struggling with this - we're two weeks in. Negative tests. The cough is keeping us up all night. Headaches and fever at certain times. My throat and ears are killing. Ibuprofen and Paracetamol don't do a thing. It's been bloody awful.

NotwatchingSpooks · 05/10/2021 11:55

I’ve got this negative LFT and PCR, but feel like crap. Nose like a tap, dreadful cough etc. Night nurse has been great and a hot drink in a flask by the side of the bed at night.

I’m on day 4, caught it off my daughter who was ill for a week with it.

Hope you all start to feel better soon.

CompletelyFuckedOff · 05/10/2021 22:25

Well it isn't covid as I've had another negative PCR. So it's just a shitty respiratory illness.
The antibiotics seem to be working nicely on my cough anyway. However I spent today feeling pretty drunk due to the dizziness. It's all in my sinuses again. Sigh.

Oh well, at least I'm off work. Just fed up. Feeling guilty too about DH doing literally everything.

I'm honestly dreading this winter if this is what the normal bugs are going to be like!

We’ve all of us had this, thankfully (!) I’ve got asthma and an excellent GP surgery who I’ve been going to for 15 years who will prescribe me steroids and antibiotics over the phone, so I was able to knock it on the head before it got too serious. I felt like total shite, and nearly two weeks later am still absolutely exhausted. Both DH and DS caught it too and it floored all three of us. I started to feel better quite quickly once I had the medicines.

Gonnagetgoing · 08/10/2021 10:07

I’ve got this. Seems like a really bad cold but got sinus pain and I’ve had sinus infections before. Have also got mild asthma.
Apparently lemsip is useless for sinus issues, Sudafed from chemist (OTC) is better. My DM who lives nearby has offered to go to chemist for supplies as she has to go anyway and is picking up supplies for me and dropping off more soup and fruit.
Have got extra peeing, heart stuff (on another thread). I found some vicks vaporub and olbas oil in medicine cupboard.
Honestly it really is rubbish and worse than your usual common or garden cold.
