For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Thanks for your thoughts. I am still quite undecided.

Massive sympathies to all with icky bugs.

IDRIS!!!!!!! I am so sorry! I have very nearly emailed you!

TooTickyDoves · 04/12/2007 23:28

Oh, I expect there to be a fair few suited people who I don't recognise. Well, 10 at least. Plus the potentially shouty one and her utterly charming partner, and a couple I do sort of know.

OverRated · 05/12/2007 02:46

Hope you are all feeling better. What did you decide TooTicky? I think I'd be inclined to go...

I tried hard today: banana, satsumas, mango, roast veg (3 servings of mixed veggies, hope that counts), raisins, apricots and prunes. That's 9 Must go and find one more!

womblingalong · 05/12/2007 06:39

Morning all,

Still a bit ick in the wombling burrow, but no more D&V hurrah!

How is everyone else?

FrannyandZooey · 05/12/2007 08:10

I probably wouldn't go, Toot, if I wasn't sure I really wanted to. I don't see why you should, unless you would like it.

Have eaten more pineapple, raisins, grapes, banana. I went to bed at 9.30, I am sure but I am still knackered. Ah well dp has been given permission to slack off home working this afternoon so I can have a nap after work oh joy.

ds is ill again....after one bloomin morning at nursery...I cant bear it
My friend is over from Jakarta & I so desperately wanted to see her,but she turned up with her two little ones with Hand,Foot & Mouth & colds & coughs & ds was laid out on the sofa being ill.
It was miserable...& now I am paranoid we will all be blistery for christmas & I need to get to the p.o to post all these wretched parcels & cant ever seem to get out of this house

I am off to find breakfast and will endeavour to return in a less crotchety mood & read thread............

womblingalong · 05/12/2007 08:28

Oooh Lully,

Poor DS and poor you. On a practical note, I have lots of parcels too, and have signed up to calculate and print out online postage labels. You can stick them on and then just drop the parcels off at the Post Office. I always find that queing up etc is the worst part of going to the p/o.

RobertSmithStoleMyLipstick · 05/12/2007 08:42

Oh Lully - poor you and poor master Lully

I do hope he feels better soon. Did you get to spend anytime with your friend at all?

If I was near you I would do your post office run for you.....and then we would drink tea and scoff some of your home baked goods

TooTickyDoves · 05/12/2007 11:59

Oh poor Lully, I hope you can get out and about soon!!!!
Here, have some fresh air ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And some breeze ))))))))))))))))))))))
And some rather strong wind >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
And some rain ,',',',',',',',',',',',',','
And some sun * * * * * * * * *

DingDongMerriLullyOnHigh · 05/12/2007 12:52

Thanks Toot

he has a high temp again & is very floppy & miserable..so I dont think we'll be going out anywhere

Gib..you are a sweetie
The parcels are stacked up by the front door ready for you
Kettles on & pear cake in the oven.....how long will you be?

Tatties · 05/12/2007 12:52

Hello...

Not around much atm but I am thinking about you all, hope everyone feeling under the weather is brighter soon

RobertSmithStoleMyLipstick · 05/12/2007 14:01

Oh lully - that sounds so bloody lovely If only.....I do hope my scrummy little man is feeling better soon.

I have just got back from shopping. DD was charming all the old ladies and I always stop for a natter with them so took ages.

Got tons of F&V so am determined to be good

Nearly 2 weeks after buying it, I have yet to use my food processor. It still scares me slightly as it glares intimidatingly at me from it's new home on my worktop.

FrayedKnot · 05/12/2007 16:20

'lo everyone

I've had a fruit salad (melon, grapes, kiwi), an apple and some dried fruit so far.

Exercise is a thing of the dim and distant past though. But my Mum's written me a note saying I don;t have to do it until january.

I'm a bit because I ordered a composter a month ago and it's never come and I'm desperate to start composting now we have a garden again. Have just rung and they are sending anotehr one out as don;t know what happened to the original one.

Can I start it off in something else do you think?

TooTickyDoves · 05/12/2007 16:51

Hello all

I seem to be constantly on the move atm and there are always things that need doing.

Don't think I am going to the funeral. It would be such an utter disruption to the day which I don't think I have the energy for. Especially if there may be snippiness in the air. I am sorry not to be going but I think great aunt would agree with me. She wouldn't want me to go to any trouble, that I do know. Bless her.

FrannyandZooey · 05/12/2007 17:26

Toot I loved your virtual weather except all the rain blew over to me by accident.

I am having a very 10 / 10 dinner that ds and dp have made except, it sounds slightly odd and I am a bit scared of it. It is broccoli and baked beans made into a pie with mashed celeriac and potato with cheese on top and served with mange tout and baby sweetcorn. Hmm.

I am tired. God I can't wait for Christmas just so I can have a rest.

Tatties where are you? I thought you were on holiday, I have been missing you.

Lully hope all improves soon. How is everyone else that was poorly feeling now?

zippitippitoes · 05/12/2007 17:32

there seems to be a lot of people with illnesses i hope it improves for you all shortly

OverRated · 05/12/2007 18:25

Interesting dinner, Franny but it's great for your 10/10. And you didn't have to make it yourself.

I'm trying quinoa today.

Hard decision, Tooticky, but sounds as though it might be less stressful to stay away.

Frayed, can you dump stuff in a bucket while you are waiting for your composter? I miss my compost bin.

Hope everyone feels better soon. We're in the midst of another snowstorm so are stuck inside. Again.

FrannyandZooey · 05/12/2007 18:39

Actually it was quite nice. If not exactly cordon bleu. The broccoli and baked bean combination was an eye opener and no mistake. Dp did actually confess that he couldn't think what to cook, so he asked ds, which explains the oddness of it somewhat.

'The broccoli and baked bean combination was an eye opener and no mistake'

oh Franny, thank you for making me smile

FrayedKnot · 05/12/2007 18:46

Ds had broccoli and baked beans for tea yesterday at his request, so obviously to a 3 (4?) year old this is a reasonable combination

I am going to start amassing a lovely stinking pile of compostable stuff from tomorrow!

I have a big bin already waiting in the kitchen to use and it might take a week to fill it up, depending on how much soup I make Then that can tranfer outside into a bucket and start another one - surely it will be here by Christmas

A question re composting, can I put any sort of shredded paper in it? Or should it only be stuff wihtout print on it?

OverRated · 05/12/2007 18:49

I don't think broccoli and beans sounds all that bad...

You can use any paper, FK. Newspaper is great for composting as it breaks down easily. Good luck. I'm

FrayedKnot · 05/12/2007 19:36

Why are you not composting, OR?

You sound wistful about it. Ours have never been very successful in the past but I think we have not being putting enough paper etc in them.

My Dad always has two wonderful great huge heaps surrounded by wooden pallets on the go at any one time, but he has a big garden

littlerach · 05/12/2007 19:36

Dd2 frequently asks for baked beans and brcolli and gravy. (bleurgh)
She soesn't really like brococloolo so I htink that it helps to disguise the taste for her!

Real Life is being demanding right now.
To demanding.

And I have had to have the Rat Man out ofrm the council. I am distressed by this. In fact, it is freaking me out. I can hear thrm scratching. I have sobbed and wailed ot dh. the Rat Man scratched his head a lot and was tres puzzled as to how they had got in to our walls. We may end up being a case study for Wiltshire County Council i fear.

Soemoen tell me a magic cure .

FrayedKnot · 05/12/2007 19:39

brococloolo?

I like it

No idea about rats. Am just having visions of the Tale of Samuel Whiskers. It always horrified / fascinated me by turns.
