For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Blimey, if anybody has excess sprouts my ds1 will come and collect them. He'd walk, barefoot, from anywhere to anywhere, for sprouts.

Franny, I am sending you gingery thoughts.

Tatties, wish I really could help!

LittleRach, I saw a sign for it today - for some reason I thought it was last weekend and I'd already missed it. Don't think I will make it though as dcs have complicated things going on in Devizes.
But while you're there, if you get a moment, pop into Who Cares (in the little shopping centre next door to Iceland, opposite the Halifax) - it is a lovely ethical shop with food and beautiful things run by a wonderful woman who has just started a campaign to make Melksham a carrier bag free town.

No sprouts

I have just washed half a Kent field down my sink which I think can;t be good.

We are not doing the tree because DH hosed it down, and although I've brought it in, it's too damp to put the lights on.

I am getting a bit fed up with today. I have done loads and loads of chores & I've had enough now.

TooTickyDoves · 07/12/2007 17:17

FK, your name always reminds me of that lovely joke about the pieces of string

OverRated · 07/12/2007 18:19

Cream with sprouts is a very good idea. Hadn't thought of that. Have had NO F&V today so must do something to improve asap.

FrayedKnot · 07/12/2007 18:40

God I am sitting down! Hoorah!

OR YOu can put a little diced bacon in with the sprouts and cream if you are that way inclined.

I want to know why you are living in an apartment in Chicago

Where did you live before? How many / old are your DC's? What do you do in Chicago? Is it very, very cold right now?

Feel free to answer some or all or tell me to bugger off

TooT, it kind of slightly inspired my name. Although the main reason was we had just moved house for the 2nd time since DS was born and I felt like a little chewed up piece of string.

FrannyandZooey · 07/12/2007 18:58

We got a whole stalk of sprouts which ds had never seen before and was consequently very exciting. I do love our veg box even though part of me sighs secretly at the thought of having to unload and cook it all. It really is exciting not knowing what you are going to get, especially for ds, and he squeals as he unpacks the things and begs me to read the newsletter, which is always full of thrilling news about their plough and so on.

I am feeling so much better, it is one of those times when you feel wonderful just because you are not still feeling shit. I have even been to a drinks thing at the gallery, and flirted with a photographer while ds ate chocolate crispie cakes.

I am very pleased about Sc---- because I use the dictionary function a LOT and it has been very very slow of late. I did wonder if our enthusiasm for it had broken it a bit.

Boco, we are in the round up, huzzah.

I phoned up our farm and said not to send any sprouts at all

Ds also loves investigating the box each week

I am still really enjoying scrabble. Ahhh, remember the days when we used to finish a game in one night? [nostalgic]

HowTheGibbonStoleChristmas · 07/12/2007 20:42

I have 14 active games at the mo

Am I addicted?

FrannyandZooey · 07/12/2007 20:45

Avi I am not chasing

it was a little flirt over a mince pie

Ooh I forgot to say I made bubble and squeak for dinner, and I crushed some butter beans in with the mash - it was lovely

FrannyandZooey · 07/12/2007 20:52

ooh get you

After failing to eat most of an apple and orange at breakfast, I have had some couscous with fruit in, a banana smoothie, some sweetcorn and a load of those marinated artichoke hearts [drool]

oh and a shedload of ginger

OP posts:
Tatties · 07/12/2007 20:53

LOL

I thought you didn't like couscous?

FrannyandZooey · 07/12/2007 20:57

I don't

but they didn't have the giant couscous which I do like (it is nice and chewy like tiny pasta, instead of pointy and dry) in M+S today and ds likes the fruity one, so I bought it and shared it with him

it is ok, he ate most of it, I was kind of trying to imply it might have contained another portion of fruit in it [liar]

OP posts:
Tatties · 07/12/2007 21:00

Oh I saw that BIG couscous the other day and wondered if I might like it

FrannyandZooey · 07/12/2007 21:01

ooh yes get it, it's very nice. The butternut squash one. They hardly ever have it in my M+S now, after getting me hooked on it therottenbastards

I don't cook it because I don't like it. Whenever anyone else has cooked it for me it has a definite pointy aspect, and it isn't moist. I like moist food. Giant couscous is soft and chewy.

OP posts:
HowTheGibbonStoleChristmas · 07/12/2007 21:24

I need to know what it meant by pointy

FrannyandZooey · 07/12/2007 21:25

it isn't soft and malleable and round and smooth in your mouth

it has points on it

yes indeed

Ah, well if MR AVI says so

ffs

he is now giggling, he is a bit drunk actually
