How often do you wash

Just wondering as I've seen a couple of post about this recently (not on Mumsnet). I shower twice a day and bath my DC once a day. This seems like a lot compared to some people?

As often as needed in order not to smell or feel uncomfortable. That varies according to activity, weather, consistency of shit, menstruation etc.

Howshouldibehave · 06/08/2021 11:43

Daily shower or bath-unless I’m really unwell and sleep through the day, I can’t remember when this last happened though. I will tend to have a b quick second shower in the evening as well if going out or if it’s boiling. I only wash my hair 2/3 times a week though as it takes ages to dry.

GeidiPrimes · 06/08/2021 11:46

Not often, I hate the sensation of getting wet. Proper soapdodger.

Fadeout83 · 06/08/2021 11:47

@Heliachi

Tbh anyone who produces bowel movements is kidding themselves if they think a daily shower isn't necessary.
Erm ever heard of a bidet? Or a Japanese toilet? Works a treat.

I shower once every couple of days. Every day if I exercise daily. But usually I exercise four days a week so I shower on those days. It’s not gross. It’s fine. I use a wet flannel to clean the necessary bits just before getting dressed on days I don’t have a shower.

And @sergeilavrov what utter nonsense that you your hair doesn’t smell “fresh” unless washed every day. Not sure what you’re washing your hair with. I wash mine twice a week and it smells delightfully fruity.

LadybirdDaphne · 06/08/2021 11:59

Shower or bath everyday, wash hair every two days or it would turn into a frizz festival. Bath DD4 every other day although she tends to resist.

Sarahlou63 · 06/08/2021 12:00

About 3 times a week, complete change of clothes at the same time and fresh bed linen once a week. OH probably twice a week.

GintyMcGinty · 06/08/2021 12:02

I shower every morning and will only shower again if I get dirty, sweaty or exercise. Husband is the same.

Children (13 and 9) shower twice a week and both go swimming once a week too so I count that.

PlanetTeaTime · 06/08/2021 12:03

I shower every other day and wash my hair too

I give my baby a bath every 2-3 days, but I was her in plain water and only use a little tiny big of sensitive soap because she has really sensitive skin a some patches of eczema

I always thought it wasn't good for you to shower everyday because it can dry out your skin? 🤔

PumpkinKlNG · 06/08/2021 12:03

Daily, wouldn’t go out without a shower

HoppingPavlova · 06/08/2021 12:06

But you don’t need a bidet or such. Of course a decent wipe with toilet paper does not get every particle off but it gets enough off so you don’t get a sore bum or any skin issue in the area. That’s completely different to a patient in a nursing home that sits in shit even for a short period. They definitely need to be showered daily. When I was younger and had periods I would also shower daily even if no shift that day as you feel manky otherwise. Don’t have to worry about that issueGrin. But poo particles after using the loo and giving yourself a decent wipe, nope, that’s all is required if you shower twice a week. Sure, if you suffer a bout of gastro then common sense says get in the shower.

PlanetTeaTime · 06/08/2021 12:06

Just read through my comment and I can barely understand it pahahaha

I meant to say I only wash my baby in plain water with a small amount of soap because she has sensitive skin

NCNCNow · 06/08/2021 12:09

Every year any more than that and you're just being wasteful.

AlCalavicci · 06/08/2021 12:10

I wait until it has rained enough to fill a puddle in my back yard then use a silver of lifebuoy soap and a rough stone to scour the grim off

NCNCNow · 06/08/2021 12:10

Once a year*

RuthW · 06/08/2021 12:16

Shower every morning and wash hair twice a week.

ItzANoFromMe · 06/08/2021 12:21

I shower quickly every morning, and every night before bed. Five minutes will suffice. Flannel wash does not cut it for me.
If I'm going out out, I'll have a shower before that, then again before getting in to bed.

Kids (primary aged, need no help) have the same routine.

None of us use shampoo though, but do wet our hair.

I could not be with someone who didn't wash twice-daily.

MorriseysGladioli · 06/08/2021 12:25

I find a fresh sweat smell very arousing on my partner.

Is it?
I wouldn't.

GintyMcGinty · 06/08/2021 13:41

Isn't it customary to shower before using a communal pool??

Pre-Covid yes it is.

However the rules of current public swimming pools in Scotland are that you must arrive "beach ready" wearing your costume under your clothes, get undressed quickly and go straight into the water.

Post swim a very short shower is allowed but they prefer you to towel dry and go home and shower.

Its very silly isn't it. My private gym has been quite happy for showering to take place.

Agree with this.

Can we just save this thread somewhere, and then link to it evert time someone asks this question ? Grin

It has some FAR better answer than we usually get.
