How often do you wash

Just wondering as I've seen a couple of post about this recently (not on Mumsnet). I shower twice a day and bath my DC once a day. This seems like a lot compared to some people?

OP posts:
Eminybob · 06/08/2021 02:03

I shower once a day.
The DC only have a bath once a week as they both have eczema and anything more often makes it worse.
I found out the other day that my boss showers 3-4 times a day Shock

Like most people, shower every morning, again in the evening if I'm going out. My DS 13 and DS11 shower once a day unless they've been swimming in the river or something.

alexdgr8 · 06/08/2021 02:15

when i was a child, a bath once a week was the norm for many people.
most also washed thoroughly everyday.
it is quite possible to keep clean without bathing/showering at all.
what do you think people who are bed bound do.
they are washed with a flannel or disposable cloths.

douliket · 06/08/2021 02:15

@silverlinin

I was genuinely shocked that some people don't wash daily. That's pretty grim! I understand if you have allergy's/skin conditions etc but to choose to just not wash daily is a bit offConfused
Serious!!?!? Shocked?????? It doesn't take much. I love how many come on to lie about their twice daily showers🙄what I would like to know where do you all get time every morning to shower(to those that say they shower every morning)? You must have plenty of time on your hands is all I can say. I have five children, two with special needs. My day begins at 6am and finishes around midnight!! There is no way on this planet to that I would find the energy or time or will to wash all of us daily. I actually think it's ridiculous. My teenager washes every second day,the smallies was once a week in bath, daily at sink obv. I shower every three days, keep well shaven(less sweat)change panty liners regularly and change clothes daily. We always look well and happy and clean and never ever smell,I can promise you that.you need to relax, seriously this world has gone bonkers.
sergeilavrov · 06/08/2021 02:24

Not just health. Often people don’t realise that their hair or body isn’t smelling fresh, and that is quite off putting. No point saving the world if by doing so, you create an unpleasant environment people don’t want to be in. There are more effective ways.

We live in the Middle East. Morning and evening, I’ll shower again at work if we’ve been doing something outside/running around/anywhere disgusting. Kids have a bath in the evening, and then a quick shower in the morning.

Shellfishblastard · 06/08/2021 02:28

I shower every morning and often have a bath at night - bath is to relax and read my kindle, not actively wash, although I do double cleanse my face while in. Wash hair every day as it gets very greasy otherwise.

DH showers daily.

DC - bathed daily when younger as part of routine but now shower/bath a few times per week, more if needed. Daily on holiday if we are in the pool / on beach.

I like showering / bathing but wouldn’t be shocked if other people didn’t do it daily. It’s probably not really necessary although I feel a bit dirty if I have a lazy day and haven’t washed as normal. But realistically I probably am not really that dirty - different if I was doing a manual job / exercise.

When I was a child I probably had a bath 1-2 times per week and a wash in between. I was immaculate.

@douliket whilst I couldn’t give a shite and have no opinion on how often other people wash, it’s really not beyond the realms of possibility that people shower twice a day is it? We don’t all have 5 kids and/or have to work like donkeys looking after our families.

I probably shower 6 days a week. If I’m not exercising or doing anything except maybe popping to the supermarket or whatever then I don’t bother. Yesterday for example I only left the house for the morning holiday club run and I threw on the day before’s dress to drop DS off in the morning, came back and sat at my desk until 9pm working - I didn’t wash at all, only brushed my teeth.

However, on a more normal day I would shower quickly first thing as I find it quicker and less faff than a wash at the sink TBH and it’s a bit of a wake up ritual. But given that I exercise 5-6 days a week I will usually shower again later in the day. On a particularly hot and sweaty day I might shower again before bed but not always.

I’m fairly low maintenance otherwise, but I do like to feel clean. I’m not saying people who shower/bathe less often than me are not clean but due to lifestyle and preference 2 showers per day most days works for me.

JackJack84 · 06/08/2021 08:44

I shower every day & sometimes have a bath at night as well. But I only wash my hair at most twice a week as it's curly & washing too often dries it out.

DameCelia · 06/08/2021 08:59

I'm appauled by noone thinking of the enviroment!!!!
All that water your all wasting.
We wash every hour in zoflora, even if we haven't moved since the last shower. Anything else is grim. But were not wasting water like you lot.

Maggiesfarm · 06/08/2021 09:15

BasinHaircut: ...due to lifestyle and preference 2 showers per day most days works for me.
.......
It does for most people, or a bath at night if you like a bath, especially when you go to work and are out all day. On non work days I didn't get up early and bathed later on in the day, usually just once.

NuffSaidSam · 06/08/2021 09:36

'Tbh anyone who produces bowel movements is kidding themselves if they think a daily shower isn't necessary.'

They're not though are they?

It's not necessary. The evidence supports this.

I'd be really interested to read any research that shows people showering less often suffering from ill health linked to their lack of daily shower? Please link to it!

waterlego · 06/08/2021 10:49

I assume those of us who don’t have a shit every day are allowed to go longer between showers? 😆

IrishMumInLondon2020 · 06/08/2021 11:09

Strip wash every Saturday evening.

cookiecreampie · 06/08/2021 11:12

I do the same as you OP. Bath morning and night and kids have one bath a day.

cushioncovers · 06/08/2021 11:12

Shower once a day, twice a day in the hot weather.

RandomDent · 06/08/2021 11:14

@Starjammer

I wash myself with a rag on a stick every second Tuesday
applause
RandomDent · 06/08/2021 11:15

Has anyone mentioned bum flannels yet?

Abraxan · 06/08/2021 11:17

I shower once a day, including washing my hair, in a morning.
Before bed I wash my hands and face, and clean my teeth.

I only have a second shower if it's been very warm and I feel a bit sticky, done something a bit dirty (such as decorating/gardening) or sometimes if I'm going out.

When Dd was small she would have a bath or shower daily too.

MorriseysGladioli · 06/08/2021 11:23

It never fails to amaze me when people are shocked that other people live how they see fit.

As for every day showers; people in hospital certainly aren't given that option, strange, since it somehow linked to good health. (On social media, at least)

Sleepyone1 · 06/08/2021 11:29

OP I think your shower schedule is pretty standard. I shower every morning (I don't wash my hair every day) and sometimes will shower again if I've exercised, am going out of if it's been particularly hot. And I bath my 2 kids every night before bed. Most people I know are the same, but I'm aware there are other factors that mean this isn't necessary or possible for some people, and I don't think they are unclean/unhealthy.

HoppingPavlova · 06/08/2021 11:30

Depends. If I’m working from home I don’t. If I’m working in an office then I’ll shower that morning before setting off. I used to work in a clinical position for decades and would shower pretty much immediately I came home after each shift but wouldn’t shower again before setting off for the next shift.

I now try and time visits to office twice a week, and shopping wherever possible after work on these days. Means my home days can be no shower pj days and I just throw a jacket on if I need to be on camera. If for some reason I need to go out on home days then I will shower and change clothes to go out. None of this will kill you folks, doesn’t result in skin disease and in fact most dermatologists will say the average person bathes way too much.

Urghhhhh · 06/08/2021 11:33

I shower daily (twice if I've worked out/it's unusually hot/etc) but only wash my hair once every 3 days (I use baby powder to keep it looking fresh in between).

loopylindi · 06/08/2021 11:37

This modern obsession with cleanliness is more to do with the expectation than reality. Most of the great unwashed don't do anything (and I mean ANTHING) to make them dirty. Skin produces oils which protect and lubricate. Too much removal with alkaline soaps, gels etc will strip these oils and lead to skin complaints and accelerate the development of wrinkles. So what do we do when we've showered for the second or third time each day - cover ourselves in body lotions etc
