For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Franny, what do you do for the roast part of your roast dinner?

MrsCarrot · 27/11/2007 20:48

PSW - I can't believe you like fom bananas. Bleurgh.

FrayedKnot · 27/11/2007 21:32

Has anyone posted anything on the recipe thread?

I've got a vegetable recipe book out of the library by...errm...Susan someone, maybe? Anything stunning I try will be posted.

Did you book the private scans so you could go before christmas franny?

I thought you originally had one afetrwards & this would cause problems for telling / or not family members over Christmas?

OverRated · 28/11/2007 03:18

Ooo, there?s lots of poorly folk on here. Hope you all feel better soon. My friend swore by Garlic Soup, which seemed to work well but I wouldn?t really know as we all kept our distance from her for a few days after she?d eaten it.

I am loving the thread ? by the time I get to it, you should all be tucked up in bed so I can sit and read all about your days which are far more fascinating than my own.

So, do any of you make your own granola/ muesli type breakfast cereal? And, if so, how?

I want roast parsnips now, but what do you eat them with? To me they are a Christmas only food, but I love them so should eat the more often.

Gardener?s pie sounds yummy ? I need more ideas. It?s been so long since I really cooked anything, I have forgotten what to make. Will add that to my list! Eagerly awaiting recipes, FrayedKnot.

I have done no Xmas shopping at all. And am not going to. Expect that I have to get something for the almost-ex in-laws and I am stuck. Must be cheap or free but be thoughtful and ready immediately. Am stuck.

I have managed strawberries, juice, grapes, cabbage, carrot, beans, tomatoes, apple, raisins but probably not whole portions of each. Almost though. And, I?m getting better

FrannyandZooey · 28/11/2007 08:28

FK, yes, that's right, I wanted a scan before Christmas (selfishly) to make it nicer for me, as then I can tell people, and not just sit round feeling tired and looking suspiciously fat. MrsC I am 12 weeks on Christmas Eve, and the NHS do their dating scan between 12 and 16 weeks round here, so I didn't fancy my chances of getting one. I feel a bit odd doing this just to suit me, I mean it is a slightly invasive medical process for the foetus, but we weighed it all up and it really does make life much much easier. Not sure if that is a good enough reason but we are doing it anyway.

TooT we don't always bother I think if you are not having m*%t then anything else is just a distraction from the roasties, really. I do make a nice nut loaf with rice and vegetables, but I couldn't be bothered yesterday. We just had roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, yorkshire pudding, sprouts, corn, 2 types of stuffing (both revolting but ds and dp like them) and mushroom gravy.

FrannyandZooey · 28/11/2007 08:29

I have just eaten apple, satsuma, raisins.

Tatties · 28/11/2007 08:32

Morning!

Ds has my cold now but he seems in good spirits.

I am doing a big clear out atm, possibly getting rid of some baby things

Does anyone need anything?

FrannyandZooey · 28/11/2007 08:37

oh frothy - I do hope you feel better and manage to get some rest today.

Can I just say a HUGE congrats to Franny

now people really must stop getting PG - tis making me a tad broody at times

Question - what's the best way to source local produce? rather than driving around hoping to spot a farm that does?

MrsCarrot · 28/11/2007 10:14

Gibbon - do you have farmers markets at all? I would think you could look online for local listings. At least driving round looking for farm shops wouold be a fun way to do it. We love going for walks/drives and coming across a new place.

Franny - I see what you mean, I'd probably do the same. I think I had dd's scan at 11 weeks, Lo was later around 14 but I was two weeks further than I thought which is always a bonus at this stage. How exciting.

He woke up last night between 2 and 4am, very unusual and very knackering. I resorted to leaving him in his cot (next to me where he at least starts off the night) as he kept crawling off the bed but he soon discovered he could tip himself over the top so that was useful. Two envelope flap tits and much pacing later he went back to sleep. He is alseep now, he is tired I think.

Boco · 28/11/2007 10:20

Hello. MrsC, how about next week?

Have you seen - birthday table is no more! Hooray. Just had very tense half hour with the Head, - there are some very silly parents at this school trying to cause a big fight, but i think it's all ok now, and feeling very very pleased that it's all sorted. Phew!

MrsCarrot · 28/11/2007 10:31

Oh, thank goodness for that, Boco, well done you! I haven't seen that thread no, I will go and catch up on it. My phone is broken and I just transferred the sim in case you texted to say you wanted to meet today. If your computer and my phone are down then we're stuffed!

Nest week is fine, I still have stinking cold and ds1 off school today but DH is off so he's being quite helpful. Is dd1 better?

Boco · 28/11/2007 10:36

DD1 is looking very peeky still, with bloodshot eyes and barking cough and sore throat, but no fever or anything and went into school.

MrsCarrot · 28/11/2007 10:41

poor thing - she's had such a run of it hasn't she. I would probably be fine by tomorrow as I'm on the mend today but maybe by next week we'll all be well. You never know! Is it the London meet thing on Friday too?

MrsCarrot · 28/11/2007 10:48

where can we see the birthday table is no more, Boco, I can't find that thread?

ahundredtimes · 28/11/2007 10:50

Oooh look at this. Vegetable music

MrsCarrot · 28/11/2007 10:53

blimey

some of that looked a bit rude, no?

Boco · 28/11/2007 11:18

Wow. That film is made much funnier by the accents 'zis next piece is dedicated to cabbage'.

Maybe next meet up everyone must prepare a short vegetable performance? And then we can just 'jam'.

MrsCarrot · 28/11/2007 11:20

it was the aubergine that cracked me up, and the bloke with the dreads was quite good looking wasn't he

frothykindofadrink · 28/11/2007 12:22

hee hee

I used to work in Huddersfield

we used to call the contemporary music festival The Plinky Plonk Festival

Gibb · 28/11/2007 13:45

I'm sure we must have MrsC - will take a look. There was a website if I recall, that you enetered your postcode and it listed all local produce providers...hmmm will try and find that again. I feel so guilty when I shop in the supermarket and see that my fruit and vegs has often clocked up mega airmiles to get to me

Saw the birthday table thread Boco, you must be so pleased

Loved the video clip btw but was slightly disappointed with the performance. Think I built my expectations up way too high there.

lionheart · 28/11/2007 13:45

Hello, 10/10ers.

Trying to get back on track, not bad today but then I've spent half the morning pretending to be a fire-engine and they need lots of fuel.

Boco · 28/11/2007 14:35

My friend has emailed me and said she wants to pay for me and the girls to go on holiday with her in January. I can pay her back in installments over a long time. She'll even pay for one girl herself. It's so kind. I'm thinking. I don't really want to get into debt though, and a holiday would be nice but not the most important thing, like driving or day to day stuff. I don't know. I've told her i need to think. I'm thinking about beaches and nice weather and getting away....ohhhhhh. But then thinking owing more money and not spending it on sensible needed things. [torn and conflicted]
