For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Well i'm good at surreptitious scratching when in public, as general groin itching is not a good look.

zippitippitoes · 25/11/2007 18:49

it's not latex allergy is it

or washing powder

BBBee · 25/11/2007 18:52

can you wear clothes where you can't scratch?

is it stress related?

um, er, not my area, um, evening primrose oil?

sorry.

lol at posting pic up - like my pic of seat belt burn - we are like a long distance aliment oggling group.

Boco · 25/11/2007 18:55

Latex? Well, i hadn't considered that one - i will not wear my latex suit for a while and see if that helps. It's not washing powder as i've always used the same kind.

zippitippitoes · 25/11/2007 18:59

latex in loads of things not just condoms

like knickers its why u get it there

zippitippitoes · 25/11/2007 19:00

doesn't matter if u've always used the same because u acquire allergies through use and also the manufacturers change the formula regularly

zippitippitoes · 25/11/2007 19:01

that's why hairdressers and brickies get excema after years

ahundredtimes · 25/11/2007 19:27

Poor Boco. Maybe do as Zip suggests and try changing washing powders etc?

Looks nasty, but your tummy looks nice.

I have eaten about 8/10 I think. My satsuma mountain is somewhat depleted.

FrayedKnot · 25/11/2007 19:29

Boco, have you tried aloe vera on it?

I have what I thought for many years was excema on my elbows and someone I work with recently told me she thought it was psoriasis as she also has it.

Anyway, I asked someone in the Health Food shop if they could recommend anything and he said try aloe vera (juice).

I did start taking it but it has to be kept in the fridge so I keep forgetting, but I also use it topically (gel or liquid) and it's immensely soothing. The excema/psoriasis I have is incredibly itchy and I scratch it raw really easily, often at night and I don;t realize I'm doing it.

I would recommend even if it only soothes it.

Boco · 25/11/2007 19:30

I'll try that - I use ecover so thought that'd be quite safe, but will try something else. But then aswell - i have it on my scalp too, and when it was really bad even my ears. I will stop talking about it now.

Hooray for satsuma mountain. I just had peas, carrots, green beans and broccoli.

FK that's what possum said too - must get some, thanks.

zippitippitoes · 25/11/2007 19:32

oh it does sound quite general...hope it gets better

policywonk · 25/11/2007 19:32

ahem, boco, do you think it might be urticaria

Boco, I gave up Ecover because just hanging out washing that had been washed in it was taking the skin off my hands. I use Clearspring and love it.

policywonk · 25/11/2007 19:36

Who, me?

No, no, I was just passing.

Sorry it's DULL on here today. (Board in general, not this thread.)

Boco · 25/11/2007 19:39

Yes - it is urticaria - it starts like a big nettle rash - but then goes all red. But eczema can be like that too. The tablets i have are for urticaria - it's just finding out why. Will def try a different washing powder.

It must be dull hearing about my rash again sorry, lets talk about something else.

TooTicky · 25/11/2007 19:40

The swimming pool we went to was extremely well hidden. Well, the whole town was. Distinct lack of signposts and not even listed in the atlas index. Don't know if it is because it is a military place.
Anyway, the swimming pool (ex-military building) was unnecessarily huge and draughty and it was FREEZING and dd2 and ds2 had blue lips (but were happy) and I was miserable but I was a good mummy and we stayed much longer than I wanted to. And the shower are and changing rooms were freezing too.

TooTicky · 25/11/2007 19:41

AND the flume and inflatable thing were out of action.

zippitippitoes · 25/11/2007 19:42

i found the reason you get it on your tum is because you get yourself wet there when doing washing up or bathing children and stuff

also if it isn't the latex in waistbands etc then sometimes the washing powder bulds up in the thick part of clothes like waistnbands etc and then the rash spreads out from there

MrsCarrot · 25/11/2007 20:02

Ecover is notoriously bad for skin. DD slept in someone's bed once and was itchy/excema ridden for ages.

I would worry more about the inside than the outside if I were you. Obviously change powders and use something to relieve it but skin things are often the body's way of getting rid. Apparently if you suppress a skin problem it goes to the lungs. Or something.

Not sure what I'm suggesting you do about the inside, but relax as much as possible. Aloe vera juice is very good though it tastes like a donkeys arse.

TooTicky · 25/11/2007 20:09

homeopathy

manchita · 25/11/2007 20:13

Hi everyone.
Well I am quite proud of myself today. I didn't manage 10 portion of f&v but I did come close with banana, raisins, green beans, spring greens, carrots, parsnips and pomegranate juice(yum).
I am still feeling exhausted but I am hoping to wake up with a little more zing tomorrow.
I do a detox every January (the Jane Scrivener 30 day one ) and I am looking forward to that(dry skin brushing, 30 mins exercise, no wheat or dairy, lots of water.)
I am not sure what has happened to me this year- I have suddenly found myself immersed in bad habits- not enough sleep, eating too much meat, eating rubbish all day long, having no energy for the children....I am determined to get back to energetic mummy!
However, do you think a glass of red wine be a terrible thing?
Sorry, I seemed to have moaned on a bit....

zippitippitoes · 25/11/2007 20:14

i have suffered really badly from these things in the past in fact i did used to have an epipen but i er don't carry one any more

you could try evening primrose oil

stress can do it
