he used to ride a motorbike and like drugs

and he was a bit mad and used to tell lies and get into fights in pubs

and said he might go and join the foreign legion

we used to know him from University (we were all ex students) and every now and then he would pop up again in our town to visit people, but after a while he did not pop up anymore

and we tried to find him

and searched on line

and just a complete blank, I think he must have died. He was a lovely, mixed up, stupid, mad, sweet bloke

Actually a foreign legionaire once followed me and my friend back from Corsica and he kept ringing our flat and things. And then we went and met him and he'd bought all his diving equipment with him, and he showed us photos of amputees in Angola.

This did happen. DH put it in a tv show. Was odd.
