Embarrassing problem

Name changed for obvious reasons Blush

For the past month or so I've had diarrhoea on and off as well as left sided abdominal pain. Embarrassingly I have actually soiled myself twice while out walking & unable to find a toilet. It's got to the stage where I'm constantly uncomfortable and worried about being able to find a toilet if I need one.

I've phoned my gp & have blood & other tests booked for a couple of weeks time but im just really scared. Im early 50s.

It’s like you go to the loo and think there possibly can’t be anything left then go another 20 times!!

How are you feeling about tomorrow?

Iusedtoliveinsanfrancisco · 17/05/2021 15:46

Will be thinking of you - the prep us definitely the worst part. Flowers

Bumtrouble · 17/05/2021 16:15

I'm feeling anxious @Workinghardeveryday especially after talking to the Consultant on the phone but at the same time I know I have to go through the process to find out what's wrong & hopefully fix it. My ds is taking me in so I'm putting on a brave face so as not to worry him as he's only 18

Good luck for tomorrow Bum. I have had 3 colonoscopies and I hated them all! but they are necessary. Hope you get some good news. Flowers.

Lillygolightly · 17/05/2021 17:10

Hi, I had a colonoscopy myself almost 2 years ago now. The prep really is the worst bit and so I have some tips

  1. wipe using damp toilet paper as it saves you getting sore.

  2. I just sat in the shower once the prep was all done and it did help me feel a little better.

  3. For my journey to the hospital and for after I bought myself a pack of those incontinence pants. Was a lifesaver to be honest, as while I didn’t have an accident in the end, it did help reduce my anxiety in thinking I might have one as my tummy just felt so all over the place and unpredictable after the prep.

  4. The tea and toast after it was all done was the some of the best I’ve ever had and was right up there along with the tea and toast after each of my births.

  5. I was a bit crampy once I got home after the procedure and spent some time on the sofa under a blank with a hot water bottle.

I hope everything goes well Flowers

Mydogmylife · 17/05/2021 17:35

Good luck for tomorrow,

Nannewnannew · 17/05/2021 17:39

@Bumtrouble
I am thinking of you and hope that the test tomorrow goes well and you get some good news. As you probably know by now, the prep is the worst part and hopefully you will be having a sedative tomorrow for the test.
Good luck and keeping everything crossed for you.

ChiefBabySniffer · 17/05/2021 17:42

Really hoping tomorrow goes well and is an easy fix.

ThePontiacBandit · 17/05/2021 17:55

Hi OP, just seen this thread but I see you’re in for your colonoscopy tomorrow. I hope the prep isn’t too bad from here on in (my experience it was bad in the afternoon but the next morning I didn’t have much left to give!). You should be able to watch the colonoscopy (if you want, I was fascinated by mine but I am a nurse!). I got told my results before I left.

Hope it’s reassuring to say it’s best to be fast tracked with your symptoms just in case but it’s not just bowel cancer that can cause your symptoms. Polyps (these are growths that can turn into cancer but haven’t yet) can, also diverticular disease and some types of Irritable Bowel Disease (like chron’s). Obviously not great news but just...it’s not always cancer.

I hope you have an okay night and the test goes alright for you.

SunshineCake · 17/05/2021 18:21

I've only just seen this for the first time and wanted to wish you a productive appointment and I hope you get some answers. Take care.

babbaloushka · 17/05/2021 18:34

Good luck tomorrow OP, hope they can work out what's up.

Workinghardeveryday · 17/05/2021 19:55

@Bumtrouble like others have said the prep is the worst bit really! I used to get anxious before because it was different and not something you usually do and the unknown.

My number 1 advice to you is ask for the sedative but make sure you say you want the full dose. They don’t often give the full dose and it will do no harm but make the whole experience completely different honestly!

It will soon be this time tomorrow and it will all be over xx

Good luck tomorrow. Another one here echoing to ask for the sedative, and ask for the full dose.

Hopefully you will have answers soon Flowers

Bumtrouble · 17/05/2021 21:14
