For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Evening! An hour exercise class this morning. Everyone seems to keep rather quiet about the exercise '10' of the title. I think we should all pledge to do our 10 mins a day for a week. I will do yoga tomorrow.

Gizmo, hello, don't forget you can count fruit juice or smoothies as a nice easy one (or two? ) and I usually have raisins (tbsp) or dried apricots (you only need to eat 3!) and just munch them like sweets

I don't know what I will wear to the meet up and will only have two days to prepare by the time I get back from my mums at the end of the week I will be quite scared when I get round to thinking about it but have dd's bday and trip to Devon first!

fullmoonfiend · 07/11/2007 18:18

SSSHHHH!

pinkspottywellies · 07/11/2007 19:15

FMF what would you like to pledge to do tomorrow? I see you have your leotard ready

TigerFeet · 07/11/2007 19:23

You know, I would love to do 10 mins a day but I would struggle atm... still recovering from nasty green chest infection (the chest infecton was green, my chest is erm, well, chest coloured).

I will eat more satsumas as penance

If I eat any more satsumas, the skin on my thighs and arse will take on an orange peel appearance... oh... erm... oh.

Evening all, welcome to Gizmo

There are quite a few of us with small 10/10ers starting school next year aren;t there? I'm pleased to have other people to be anxious with.

Today I've not been very good on fruit but had the leftovers of my aubergine in the pickling style was is amazingly yummy when cold, carrot, sultana & mixed seed salad, and a sweet potato, peas, & sprouts for supper, with sausages.

I always have dried fruit on my cereal as I am in such a hurry in the mornings, I don;t seem to have time to sort out fresh fruit. We leave the house just before 8 and I am not an early morning person

I did the creamed sprouts, btw, and they were lovely...not bitter or smelly at all. I must insist we have them like that at Christmas.

FrayedKnot · 07/11/2007 20:45

Where are you all tonight?

I am supicious of Franny's duvet now. Have you all started a new social networking site under there

I've baked cakes again today. I'm getting there slowly! I have discovred that Nigella's recipes seem to work well with gluten free flour. I have "Feast" and there is one chapter on different variations of chocolate cake and I'm working my way through it

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 20:47

Oh well done Fmf
I found out I was no good at exams rather suddenly, around the time I was taking my A levels, such as they were.

Thanks Avi I love it when people admire my children. I suppose we all do.

I have eaten vegetables.

And if brisk walking counts for exercise, I do way more than 10 every day.

FrayedKnot · 07/11/2007 20:48

Oh, I know, you are all exercising, aren't you

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 20:48

I'm not going under Franny's duvet. Somebody has smelly feet.

Tatties · 07/11/2007 20:52

Hello
I am feeling particularly baffled and drained by being a mother today. I need to go and eat more chocolate cake and drink calming tea. I am so sorry because I want to catch up with the thread and talk to you all but I don't think I would be very coherent.

littlerach · 07/11/2007 20:52

I am still feeling poorly

But I did roast some chestnuts this eveniong. I didn't like them as much as I should have done.

So i ahd the rest of my soup.

And soem rasins.

i have hadrly eaten anything today.
Which is good for my hips, but not for 10/10 really.

FrayedKnot · 07/11/2007 21:14

Sorry you're still feeling poorly littlerach

Tatties what's up???

I found Boco in my kitchen cupboard today

No really, a small green diesel train in amongst the bakeware

gizmo · 07/11/2007 21:27

They get everywhere those Bocos don't they? I've just resurrected one from DS1's Thomas days (seems so long ago now, sob) for DS2 to examine minutely and throw on the floor.

Thank you all for welcome - you're a very inclusive bunch, aren't you? PMSL laughing at having created a felching bonnet: I am going to have to learn to type more clearly, having caused some chaos on the Paula Radcliffe thread by inadvertantly accusing MorningPaper of storing small boys and penises in her stomach.

Pumpkin risotto (so pumpkin and onion - good I guess, huge quantity of cheese - probably not so hot) and salad, with glass of orange juice this evening. Probably can just about claim 10 today. Just. 45 minutes recovery running (recovering from a harder session last night) and the bike ride to and from work, so exercise bit done, but that bit is straightforward for me, since I am one of those wierdies that rather likes running.

IdrisTheDragon · 07/11/2007 21:44

My little 10/10er starts school mornings only in January. The school in our village takes them the term after they are 4, and they do mornings only for two terms, then go full time the term they are 5.

We have our school meeting in a couple of weeks time (two days before DS's birthday ). He says he is looking forward to finding out where the toilets are, and learning . I hope he always feels this positive about learning [hopeful smile].

FrayedKnot · 07/11/2007 21:52

Gizmo does real exercise

Well I mean sorry I know otehrs on 10/10 do as well, and some do phenomenal amounts of brisk walking in all weathers

But I don;t

FrayedKnot · 07/11/2007 21:57

Is it a big school, Idris, or small and friendly? I feel I am regretting moving to an area with such big schools. DS loves his tiny nursery, but I feel he will be totally lost at big school

I wish I still lived in Norfolk and he was going to a tiny village school with 2 years in a class instead of overcrowded suburbia.

gizmo · 07/11/2007 22:02

Hmmm, yes. I have to put my hand up to the odd bit of exercise. I have, however, been using it as an excuse to eat utter crap for years and years. Plus drink far more beer (well cider and wine to be accurate) than is good for me, because of course we all know that running is good for counteracting cirrhosis of the liver

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 22:06

Good luck to you and your ds Gizmo. I read your thread. 100x gives scarily good advice, doesn't she?

FK, the good thing about larger schools is that there is more scope friendswise. I know what you mean though.

pinkspottywellies · 07/11/2007 22:07

Oh my goodness running

I've been shopping, buying party food for dd's birthday tea party. I don't feel grown up enough to have a one-year-old I'm also finding it quite difficult at the moment. She know what she wants but can't tell me so she just screams and points at things and I try to figure out what she wants [dispair] That look really wrong - how do you spell dispair?!

gizmo · 07/11/2007 22:09

And often the bigger schools have some more glamorous 'toys' - better playground equipment etc, which can make them very exciting to new starters. I know my DS still refers rather wistfully to the bigger (but less nice) school we looked at before we managed to wriggle our way into his current school.

pinkspottywellies · 07/11/2007 22:13

Idris, I've played my move.
