For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Lovely pictures Toot. What's happening where they're all blue and gritting their teeth?

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 14:54

Thanks

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 14:56

Ah, that was after a Celtic day at the museum. They were wearing battle paint and looking fierce.

Boco · 07/11/2007 15:01

Aha. It's so cute - i thought they were all listening to some very awful music.

hunkermunker · 07/11/2007 15:26

TooT, I can see a car, a woolly doll thing and a cake on your profile. I think either you have some kind of permission set up on there or I'm on drugs!

gizmo · 07/11/2007 15:29

Ah, I was just about to ask a question about portion sizes but I see it's all there in Franny's excellent introduction.

about beans/pulses. Once you have removed beans and potatoes from the list I think I'm going to struggle with this...maybe I'll return to seven a day mediocrity.

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 15:32

Gizmo Franny is out at present but allow me to welcome you. We are all very friendly and encouraging here. And mad. But we don't mention that.
Eating fruit at breakfast time is a good way to start the day...um...what else does Franny normally say?

gizmo · 07/11/2007 15:33

Something about wnaky baskets?

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 15:34

Snacking on fruit also good. And carrying it in your pockets. And wearing it.

(psst, Hunker, I have just made you a mate)

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 15:35

Oh yes, baskets get you brownie points but not fruit points.

I've never done the welcoming ceremony before. I think you have to swear an oath using your own blood orange.

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 15:38

I DO know that I have to make you extremely welcome. Do you feel welcome? Pull up an aubergine.

FRANNY! WHERE ARE YOU? We have a new recruit and I can't remember the oath!

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 15:38

She's gone! How did she escape? And why? Was I not welcoming enough?

gizmo · 07/11/2007 15:40

Right.

OK.

I have just fashioned a fetching bonnet from banana skins (all I have on me at the moment) and will investigate the insulating properties of pumpkin peel this evening.

Meanwhile I had a bowl of muesli for breakfast (mucho raisins/hazlenuts - do nuts count?) and lunch was tuna/bean salad, a beef sandwich and bananas. Dinner is probably pumpkin risotto with salad on the side. We'll see.

Done the exercise bit, at any rate - I'm much better at that than eating sensibly

hunkermunker · 07/11/2007 15:46

TooT! That's better! I thought I'd gone mad before

You have beautiful children - don't they look smart! Love the woad and the big bowl of messy stirring excitement!

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 15:49

Thanks Hunker Your little ones are delightful too.

Gizmo! I was so worried I'd scared you away and Franny would have been cross. Your banana peels are very fetching. You will definitely fit in well here.
I'm afraid nuts don't count.

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 15:50

Try putting fresh fruit on your muesli - works well for me.

ahundredtimes · 07/11/2007 16:06

Oh Gizmo is here. Hurrah. I have been hugging Gizmo's ds in a classroom and kicking over his teacher's jar of marbles. He and I have been getting on v. well.

Welcome Gizmo.

I have eaten a number of satsumas and an entire packet of chocolate orange leibinz biiscuits. Not so good. I keep forgetting lunch - and I forgot breakfast too. Gah.

However satsumas I have, and some bananas so i shall eat one of them in a minute and we're having shepherds pie with numerous vegetables for supper.

I am meant to be going out tonight. To hear a band I hope there will not be dancing.

gizmo · 07/11/2007 16:23

DS is very grateful for your suggestion re 'how to talk etc' and we are now forming a League against Cruel Marbles. I shall be visiting his teacher shortly (think Royal Progress: I shall be observed strolling around his classroom with my hands clasped behind his back saying vaguely: 'Oh, you're teaching them about Florence Nightingale - how interesting') to discuss Strategy.

Meanwhile I am eating another banana and will shun the nuts. I am, unfortunately, a slow thinker/typer, so much of what I might contribute to this thread will be spectacularly out of synch.

hunkermunker · 07/11/2007 16:48

Oh, Gizmo, I read your thread about your DS - he sounds lovely. I will join you in the league against cruel marbles.

fullmoonfiend · 07/11/2007 17:32

evening all. I am knackered. I may come on later and be all sparkly and witty but now I. can.barely. type.

No F and V to speak of, I have been at college and have only had access to hot chocolate and mini mars bars....

dh said he would cook a lovely dinner for me as compensation for exam etc. He has just rung to say he is bring sodding pizza home. Veggie pizza mind you, but >

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 17:34

fmf, how was the exam? No, don't tell me. Go and eat something and then come back and tell me.

TooTicky · 07/11/2007 17:36

Where is Franny anyway?

fullmoonfiend · 07/11/2007 17:37

I hate exams. I am Not Good at them. I really have no memory of anything I wrote but I didn't run out of time and I did put something down for every answer. I only need to get 50 per cent and it isn't graded, just pass or fail. But nothing i had revised so hard for came up . Half the exam is waffley stuff about communication. Fingers crossed. I won't find out til Jan so...stuff it!

FrannyandZooey · 07/11/2007 17:51

I work on Wednesdays; I can see I am going to have to submit a schedule for you to approve before I attempt to have any kind of life at this rate

oooh you cunning people. You got us another new recruit and she seems right up our street. I like the fetching banana peel (which I read as felching but never mind). Gizmo beans and pulses DO count, were you thinking they didn't? They definitely do. Nuts are out though. I always say have plenty of fruit at breakfast and some salad or beans at lunchtime and you will crack it no problems.

100 we are not going to tell you when the meet up is, or where, or what it was like, or anything. You should have agreed to come if you wanted to find out. You know we all wanted you to and you are just playing hard to get, so we will drive you into a frenzy of curiosity in revenge.

Btw any new people who are not in on this meet up, we are not trying to exclude you, but this one is all booked up now, so please put your names down for the next one in the fullness of time. If there is a next one Of course we may have to disband the thread after the meet up when we find out how many of us are hairy handed Mc Donalds eaters.

I have eaten chickpeas, avocado, lettuce, beetroot, hummus, carrot, cucumber and pesto rice. Lovely. And a big wodge of mocha cake while I was out.
