For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

LL, DS1 adores kidney beans too.

TooTicky · 06/11/2007 18:06

Why don't my dcs demand kidney beans? They won't even eat them!

ahundredtimes · 06/11/2007 18:07

I might eat Hunker's ds's actually. They look good enough to eat.

FrannyandZooey · 06/11/2007 18:08

where are you all getting all these satsumas from? [suspicious]

have you formed a satsuma buying consortium and not told me?

shrinkingsagpuss · 06/11/2007 18:10

LOL at thread title. thank you for brightening my day.

lullabyloo · 06/11/2007 18:11

really?
I have given in,he has almost eaten the bowlful with the addition of a bit of balsamic vinegar

We went to Carluccio's the other day & he ignored the children;s menu offerings choosing to have wild mushroom pasta instead.
He asked as usual, very nicely, fluttering his eyelashes.for a plate of crunchy veg to go with it (they had forgotten)
In desperation,he snatched the parsley garnish off the top of my rissoto & ate that

the waitress was [shock}

TigerFeet · 06/11/2007 18:14

LL your ds deserves a 10/10 halo, bless him

satsumas - cheap in Morrisons, bought a couple of nets for about £1.20 each yesterday. Will have to go back tomorrow and get some more.

ahundredtimes · 06/11/2007 18:14

That's a pleasure shrinkingsagpuss, anything I can do to help.

FrannyandZooey · 06/11/2007 18:18

does anyone like that oranges poem by Wendy Cope? because I do

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 06/11/2007 18:18

@ greengrocer

I can't find one anywhere in the town where I live. Butcher, baker and candlestick maker but no greengrocer

There are farm shops but they are out of town and only appear to be open while I am at work [sigh]

So Morrisons it is [sighs again]

ahundredtimes · 06/11/2007 18:20

Right, I am dishing up food. Can anyone bear to tell us how to eat a pomegranate or shall I just scroll down?

lullabyloo · 06/11/2007 18:24

Tiger.....we have one greengrocers...but it is lousy ...
cheap...but lousy
everything looks good,but isn't
wooly,tasteless,bad
we used to have simply wild which was just fab
but it shut down
Tunbridge Wells is not very 10/10 ish

fullmoonfiend · 06/11/2007 18:25

Cut it into quarters, break segment 'open, spill all the juicy red seeds into a bowl. Remove yellowy bits. eat with poon. Dribbling compulsory...

If I fail my exam I will blame it all on 10/10 thread

lullabyloo · 06/11/2007 18:25

100x....just cut it in half & break of little clusters..mmmmmm

ahundredtimes · 06/11/2007 18:32

You eat the seeds in the bowl? Yes? Not the yellow bits? Yes?

ahundredtimes · 06/11/2007 18:34

Okay. We'll do a combination of the FMF and LL methods.

(DS2 is making me hoot. He is being v. camp. DD has been telling us in elaborate detail about her christmas play and everytime she says something like 'And Archie has to go and open a window, not a real window, a pretend window' and he keeps saying 'Absolute geeenious' or 'Mary goes to a stable, she's going to be in Y2' and he says 'Genius, genius.' It's v. funny. Sorry, you probably have to be here.)

fullmoonfiend · 06/11/2007 18:37

ok FandV stuff

grapes,(1)
satsumas,(2)
ginger and oat cake {hopeful)(1)
3 bean and tomato soup (3?)
Salad (?)
Veggie lasagne (3)

valium (well valerian is a herb....

fullmoonfiend · 06/11/2007 18:37

oh and 2 pomegranites of course!

fullmoonfiend · 06/11/2007 18:38

no yellow bits are vile and bitter

fullmoonfiend · 06/11/2007 18:38

jst one last post for the fun of seeing my name in a long list

lullabyloo · 06/11/2007 18:41

lol fmf

100x dont eat the pithy bits...most horrid

they are lovely sprinkled over mango

FrayedKnot · 06/11/2007 18:45

Hunkers in, isn;t she?
So pleased I don;t have to eat my blanket.

Hunker have they not told you about the tent, and the initiation ceremony

We've just had Madhur Jaffrey's "Aubergine Cooked in the Pickling Style", stir fried kale and carrot with ginger and cumin seeds, channa dhal, brown rice, cucumber raita.

It was exceptionally lovely but I spent most of the afternoon cooking and DS got rather bored.

Sorry Wombling was it you who gave us the recipe for the bharta? I will do that next time, promise - Madhur was nearer than searching the old threads..

Hurrah for 100x DS! I love the image of your grandmother. I have a hugely attention seeking grandmother, who makes up things all the time.
The thing is, unless you know her enough to know it's not true, she completely takes people in

FrayedKnot · 06/11/2007 18:46

Sorry, that should have been

"Hunker's in"

otehrwise it sounds like a verb.

FrayedKnot · 06/11/2007 18:51

Tiger Feet, can you get a veg box?

Our scheme will deliver to a workplace.

We have a fantastic proper greengrocer in town, and a good butcher, but no baker. There was one which closed a while ago, and now we have no baker at all within a ...probably 20 mile radius. It's shockingly awful, but unsurprising really.

We have 5 takeaways, an off licence, a tanning salon, and a Tesco Express, within a mile though

lullabyloo · 06/11/2007 18:56

fk that all sounds utterly delicious
