For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I keep doing that. I think, I know, I'll do some baked potatoes! And then remember they need an oven

TrinityRhino · 22/10/2007 11:06

another fantastic thread title

TooTicky · 22/10/2007 11:06

For dinner that is, not for the party.

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 22/10/2007 11:06

pinwheeel sandwiches, fruit kebabs, erm...

TooTicky · 22/10/2007 11:07

Ooh good, keep 'em coming...

MrsCarrot · 22/10/2007 11:08

Um, I did on Saturday actually. We had pheasant with bacon and thyme and parsnip chips and a little gravy and watercress. I had it on the same plate and so did The Wild Gourmet people but I guess there is more gravy with a stew so it might be civilised to have a side plate. That sounds delicious btw - one big pot is the way forward I think.

womblingalong · 22/10/2007 11:39

100,

King Nige of Slater says lettuce with stew/gravy etc is fine, esp floppy butterhead style ones, so go for it, and love stews. Do it before you go and freeze, therefore stress free.

TooT, will gladly email you with details of what I have, you tell me what you want. Would love to do swap, but am now considerably more than a 12......oh dear.

I don't think there's much difference between a thicker gravy and a sauce for lasagne for eg, particularly if it's on a separate plate or even as it's own course. Perhaps it depends on the leaf.

Boco · 22/10/2007 12:40

Wow there's a theory Avi, do you think maybe it's like fight club, and it'll turn out that one is a figment of the other's imagination?

I"m going to check with Hugh about the stugh.

ahundredtimes · 22/10/2007 12:44

Thank you all for your thoughts. I have decided not to risk it. I will do green beans - because I like them, and what with the cream and stew and baked pots will need something with some crunch I think.

Also, not sure I can quite get the lettuce and gravy thing right.

Thank you, thank you.

Avi - not sure that knowing that shall not is shortened to shan't quite counts as pedantry does it

Have just asked to ds1 to do the washing for our holiday, as I am flapping in the kitchen. He gave me a funny look.

TooT - fruit kebabs an inspired idea. Cucumber, carrot, peppers (mine like these don't know if others do?) around pots of humous. More sandwiches, cut out with pastry cutters. Oranges with the insides scooped out and filled with ice cream or jelly - can you get vegan jelly? AND even little halloweeny faces carved in.

All Hugh's stews are done with creamy mash and seasonal vegetables.

You're all being pedantic about being pedantic now. There'll be an atom splitting explosion and the thread will be blown into the mens room and we'll all scream and run around with fruity face packs on and towels.

pinkspottywellies · 22/10/2007 13:16

I was just reading and thinking 'but why do you need salad?' and I'm glad you've decided on beans. Mr100x is funny. DH and I don't make each other laugh any more

Raisins, apple juice, dried apricots, cucumber, tomato, peach, celery.

Zippi, loofah made me squirm!

ahundredtimes · 22/10/2007 13:18

Marry Boco then because she's funny, I am considering making a move myself if dh stops making me laugh.

fullmoonfiend · 22/10/2007 13:34

Boco, sheer genius.....

And thank you Avi, I was beginning to think only I could see my post. And I thought it was shocking...and was feeling quite put out that nobody else commented. (It's all these glamourous ones with their gamey cooking, and amusing husbands and root canal work...I dunno.....)

Boco · 22/10/2007 13:42

FMF i think we all shuffled uncomfortably and tried not to think about that happening to any of us. It's too awful.

Sixofoneyedmonster · 22/10/2007 13:47

Love the thread title, genius!

zippitippitoes · 22/10/2007 13:49

what fmf

and please explain the title to me as ujsua;l

MrsCarrot · 22/10/2007 14:42

Oh, I missed that, FMV, had to scroll bacl you must have been livid!

Yes, 100z, have beans it will be safer if you're uncertain.

I might watch that programme they keep advertising on the right, why we can't read, it looks interesting.

Boco - That was indeed very funny, perfectly captured that squinty brainy moment that happens with too much analysis.

We are off to the library, as usual minus a couple of books. Ds1 can't find his and Country Animals is scattered in pieces at the end of the road as LO threw it out of the pram without me noticing. Sigh.

oh disappoiunted i translated it to that

er very good

littlerach · 22/10/2007 15:10

Oh, I do like the title.

So, veg curry (sweet potato, red pepper, green beans, courgette and tomatoes). And i had too much of it.
DH has half term off, and was suposed to have curry too, but decided he would be too full ot go to the gym, so I ate more than my share.
How many would that be?
And more grapes.
I seem to eat a lot of those. I odn't like oranges, or even orange juic every much. I only eat bananas as they ar egood for me.

I am trying to persuade myself that i want to go out for a walk. But it is damp and rather gloomy here.

It is quite nice to type this, and to be able to look bcak. Like a food diary.

But you all move very fast. It takes a while to catch up.

and you all stay up very late. Dd2, who is just 3, doesn't sleep well. At all. So I neeeeed sleep.

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 22/10/2007 15:18

Ok, my first day and I'm not doing well as I've had a glass of OJ, some cucumber and some grapes.

On a positive note we are having our sunday dinner tonight so I will cram my plate full of veg, I promise.

DDs not well so exercise not on the cards today....although I did hoover earlier,. I dony suppose that counts, does it?

WorkingClassScum · 22/10/2007 15:38

Er.. just popped on to say I adore the title of this thread! It makes me giggle inside!
