For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

here for temperament sorter

then pay $4.95 to get specific type if you want to, apparently

or we can just guess, wildly, for free

FrayedKnot · 18/09/2007 21:32

Oh no Franny, I am OK really, I do miss 100 though, and I like the lentilliness otherwise I wouldn;t be here.

I have felt so much better on the 7 or so a day I usually manage, I must keep on with it.

I don;t think I mentioned the guns conversation, either. did I? DS wanted to play guns and shoot people the otehr day That came from nursery, he wouldn;t know what a gun was otherwise.

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2007 21:33

Oh dear That upsets me a lot. We have a lot of gun stuff and it is 50% nursery and 50% the neighbourhood children

we have sort of come to a truce about it, but it is uneasy

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2007 21:34

Have searched for thread I was thinking of and concluded it was in chat, as I can't find it. Sorry.

Carotte · 18/09/2007 21:46

I am not a milk snatcher, thank god, I'm an inventor, and ENTP, like ENTP in fact

Doesn't sound very like me, perhaps the truth is uncomfortable. I am less than 2% of the population, and it sounds like I am supposed to be an engineer??

I wanted to be an artisan.

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2007 21:56

Perhaps they got it wrong, Carotte

do the test again and change bits

I must say you do strike me as an artisan?

FrayedKnot · 18/09/2007 21:56

That's OK, I will have a search in behaviour anyway.

I keep valiantly on with "yes I can see that's making you feel very cross BUT"

I don;t know what sort of idealist I am. I don't think I'm a teacher. Counselor sounds more like me but without the ESP stuff.

pinkspottywellies · 18/09/2007 22:00

Franny, I would guess I am ESTJ but haven't found out for sure.

I've just done half an hour cardio on the EyeToy but I didn't change the settings so I did the level that I finished on over a year ago when I had been training for 3 months! (by the way does anyone know what I'm on about with EyeToy Kinetic?!)

Boco · 18/09/2007 22:01

I'm an idealist.

lionheart · 18/09/2007 22:03

Me too, but lapsed.

pinkspottywellies · 18/09/2007 22:04

FK I feel for you with the shouty toddler. I worry that when mine get to that stage I'll shout back

Tatties · 18/09/2007 22:11

FK no advice, but sympathy. Ds is being very whiney and disagreeable atm; it is hard to get your point across above the whining/shouting and stay calm isn't it?

Boco I just did your colour test, it's spooky isn't it?

TooTicky · 18/09/2007 22:14

Sympathies FK. Try and make sure you are both getting enough sleep.

Carotte, I landed on ds1's acorn and conker collection. You owe me a box of boojabooja.

womblingalong · 18/09/2007 22:48

Evening everyone,

Have been sighly less crap today, OJ, Nectarine, onion, courgette, mushroom, avocado, salad.

TT, thanks for emails, v useful, should be able to get to London.

Franny, I rate Myers Briggs too, I am def ENTP, or idealist on your temparaments thingy. I used to work in a team where there was a brilliant spread of personality types, and it was a joy to be there, and I agree this thread works because there is a nice balance too.

DS referral has come through for Thursdy, Hurrah! Also feeling v v exhausted, worn out and just wanting to give up the BF ing today,as I have just had him weighed, and he has lost 6oz in 2 weeks, despite feeding constantly, although really badly, every BF is a fight with him lathching on and coming off over and over again, and pushing away from me, writhing in pain.

I just want to enjoy him, and it is not working I don't know what to do anymore.

womblingalong · 18/09/2007 22:49

FK,

No advice, just lots of sympathy, it must be so stressful and upsetting.

pinkspottywellies · 18/09/2007 22:52

Wombling, lots of sympathy for you. Hope Thursday brings some answers and maybe some relief for you and ds. Don't know if you do hugs? {{{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}}

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2007 22:53

Wombling have you tried specialist breastfeeding help as well as GP? I found LLL so helpful and knowledgeable for all breastfeeding issues

IdrisTheDragon · 19/09/2007 10:35

Hello. Is anyone here today? Or have you started a new thread secretly? .

Have just been to the dentist [numb side of mouth enmoticon].

zippitippitoes · 19/09/2007 11:13

Hi

I have tried to look at the thread but anyway hope everyone is well and especially lllis ok

had a brilliant time myself, but severe lack of fruit and veg

just trying to get some in now

puppydavies · 19/09/2007 11:50

blimey this thread shifts a bit doesn't it will do best but failed dismally to ever keep up w/antenatal thread so will have to see how it goes.

i hate myers briggs but prolly cos it always brings me up as some kind of serial killer. am not quite sure why it is so terribly terrible to be an introvert, seeing as half the population must be one (or is that not right? are there more exts than ints?). i read some explanation of ex/int that said it was to do with stimulation, the int is highly stimulated internally so additional stimulation from outside causes overload, while the ext has insufficient stimulation so need to get it from external sources. or some such, anyway it seemed a bit less judgey than your usual ext v int distinction.

aaanyway, with this thread in mind i had a vegetable biryani from the takeaway last night see, i shouldn't be allowed on healthy eating threads...

have just ordered a boxful of pieminister pies too i figure we eat takeout much more often than i'd like, but if i can chuck a free range super dooper lovely pie in the oven straight from the freezer then chances are i will actually bother to cook a plateful of veg to go with it.

our veg box is here (see, i do try) so i'll go and investigate what delights i have in store for the week...

filthymindedvixen · 19/09/2007 12:52

Hello Zippi - have you brought us a sombrero back each? Or some naff plonk?? Welcome home

FK - I have been there, got the t-shirt. It takes a long time.... My tips worked on my child. But all children are different so...

  1. When he hits you (or tries), gently but firmly walk away saying calmly ''do not hit. I do not like hitting''.

  2. When he calls you names or shouts, similar but stress ''I will only listen to you if you speak nicely''
Calmness is the key or it escalates...

  3. when he is tantrumming, tell him you will come and give him cuddles when he is ready. Say ''I am going to leave you here because I can see you are angry. When you want to come and say sorry we will have a cuddle''

  4. If you can see that he is losing his temper, teach him a way to disapate the tension - ''angry hands'', or ''breathe deep in through the nose and Blow away the anger as hard as you can'' works well.

I find a lot of it is frustration - they want to be more independant than they are capapble of being.

FrannyandZooey · 19/09/2007 13:38

I am here but I am not well and I have not eaten anything. The week is going all wrong and ds has to have some vaccination this afternoon. And dp might be being made redundant and the phone keeps ringing saying "you have a text message" and then there is no message there. It has done it about 12 times this morning.

FrannyandZooey · 19/09/2007 13:38

Z are you back or still on hols?

IdrisTheDragon · 19/09/2007 13:40

F&Z that all sounds not nice .

I am trying to find some useful words to say but am generally not good on such things, but am thinking of you.

FrannyandZooey · 19/09/2007 13:53

Oh it is ok I am just grumpy after my holiday

dp quite wants to get made redundant but I don't want him to

and he is going to take ds to get his jab, which is making me feel a bit guilty, but I have a history of going to pieces about it, and ds is very cheery about it now he knows he can have chocolate eggs afterwards. I can just imagine the look of betrayal on his face when he realises it actually really does hurt
