For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

haha - boco calls me dark!

I know the calpol thing is okay - well I am pretty sure. It was only a smidge to take the pain off and bring down his temperature. I remember when I was groewing up me dad giving our pig an adult paracetomol dose and having a fight with my mum about how the pig weighed more than him.

Cat seems much happier - I hope (rahter than slowly dying that would be bad.)

are you going to make us do the laughing thing at teh meet?

FrannyandZooey · 17/09/2007 22:51

now there is an idea

[cruel smile]

womblingalong · 17/09/2007 22:52

Franny,

Yes aunts are indian, it is just the indian way of drinking tea. Chai means tea in Hindi. But it does have an ayurvedic root, and spices are fantastic for cooling/warming the blood and supporting the immune system.

FrannyandZooey · 17/09/2007 22:55

I thought I had heard chai used as a synonym for tea, (is that where the word char as in cup of char comes from?) but the people on the stall seemed to differentiate it from tea, maybe it was just to separate it from trad english type tea

They sold me some of the spice mix (I know I could probably do my own but still) and I am going to be boiling it up; it will be perfect especially for Halloween and Bonfire Night gatherings I think, my substitute for mulled wine

womblingalong · 17/09/2007 23:00

F,

Yeah I reckon they were using it to differentiate from ordinary tea. In my family we say 'English Tea" or Chai. I always thought Chai was the root of Char, but it might come from a chinese root, as thaat is where the british discovered tea afaik, and then introduced tea growing to india (I think)

womblingalong · 17/09/2007 23:01

Also,

You can buy chai masala from Indian grocers, probably much cheaper than that, but you might want to check the ingredients are the same/similar

FrannyandZooey · 17/09/2007 23:03

I have googled and found out much about tea, but it is too late to take it in

the one thing I didn't like was that they used evaporated milk to sweeten their standard chai, and it was too sweet for me

the vegan chai was just right (they advised adding sugar but I liked the slight bitterness)

do you have it sweet when you drink it?

FrannyandZooey · 17/09/2007 23:04

yes the mix wasn't cheap, but I know it will taste just the same as what I was drinking at the festival and it will remind me of being there

my mouth is watering just thinking about it

womblingalong · 17/09/2007 23:07

Def have it sweet myself. The thing about most indian Chai drinkers is they have it sweet and very strong made up with half milk, half water. It is usually very dark brown

FrannyandZooey · 17/09/2007 23:11

I think it was a little sweet because of the soya milk (usually sweeter than cow's milk)

but the evap milk was just [blah], I don't like it

I was interested this weekend to see that we were eating a wide range of (often new) foods and ds seemed quite picky, but he was mostly being discerning. For instance he was being an arse about eating a veggie burger after having asked for one, but then I tasted it and it was indeed repulsive. He also turned his nose up at a flapjack that was "too sweet" and asked for an apple instead. He liked chai A LOT and ds got in bother with me for giving it to him

FrannyandZooey · 17/09/2007 23:12

sorry should say dp got in bother

I don't like ds having caffiene [controllery]

FrannyandZooey · 17/09/2007 23:12

gosh i can't type or spell

or go to bed

Carotte · 18/09/2007 07:42

mmm, I love Chai. I just buy the tea bags and use some honey or a little brown sugar, maybe some extra cardamon pods. I'm going to get some today.

We have Doves Farm in our grocers, it is the best flore.

Franny - Glad you had fun, it sounds lovely, well, apart from the laughing workshop I would have hated that.

Cod came in a couple of times and barked at us to eat fruit but we ignored her and carried on eating doughnuts. We only listen to you. I sniffed glue.

The nectarines have turned, there are no nice ones. Bah.

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2007 09:28

Yes I saw cod! I think she must have been waiting for me to go away as she knows I would have sent her packing

I am feeling grim and churned up. Do I want to run off and live in a tent somewhere by myself. Probably.

Oh I bought a necklace made out of felt beads. It is the most pretty and simultaneously the most itchy necklace that I own.

oh

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2007 09:29

oh and well done @ glue. Much better than those nasty doughnuts

IdrisTheDragon · 18/09/2007 11:34

Hello.

I am passing through.

DD and I have eaten many grapes ("more mape" says DD).

We are going to pick up DS from pre-school.

I was v tired last night and went to bed at 8pm .

Boco, I will do my scrabble move. I promise .

filthymindedvixen · 18/09/2007 11:42

welcome back Franny (just diving in - am at work) When I get back from festies and have that post festy-down, I like drinking Chai very much. Yogi tea brand is ace, you'll be spoiled for choice.

look caffeine free!

Boco · 18/09/2007 12:23

Hello. franny i'm making a felt bead bracelet with dd - we're still making all the beads atm - it's really therapeutic, all the vigorous rolling.

I'm drowning in chaos and confusion today, i can't find anything and everything is a mess and i have a huge and daunting list of things to do so i'm banning myself from the computer.

I had peaches and banana for breakfast.

Tatties · 18/09/2007 12:41

Hello everyone!

Franny I hate that post-holiday downer thing... I love Chai too, haven't had any for ages and you have inspired me to go and get some now It's just perfect weather for it. Autumn really is my favourite season. I am interested in the Myers Briggs scale - would you tell me more (if you feel like it)?

BBB LOL at your Mooncup story! Excellent

I wonder if Avi is having a lovely time...

lionheart · 18/09/2007 13:11

Hello everyone, signing in and out because I am reading stuff.

IdrisTheDragon · 18/09/2007 13:43

Franny, glad you had a lovely time at the festival and you are having post festival un-elation.

When I did Myers-Briggs I was practically off the scale on introversion . I am an ISTJ; typical accountant type (I am an accountant ).

There will soon be no grapes left as DS has joined in devouring them .

DD was even eating them round the supermarket . We had weighed them and priced them before she started munching so I am probably OK on the MN scale of bad parenting.

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2007 13:59

Afternoon ladies, lovely to be back in the fold here

FMF I have the spices here and instructions to boil it all up in a special way and add milk and tea and stuff. So I can just add redbush and have it caffeine free, but it does seem like quite a big faff just to make some tea (about 25 mins plus faffing time?) so may try teabags. Also I am kind of suspecting that it was partly the caffeine that I was enjoying . So many things I have given up, so many temptations. Tea, cider, flirting with men dressed as Vikings. Ah me.

Tatties Autumn is my top favourite season too. It always feels like a time of beginnings which I know is backwards but it does. I usually fall in love in the Autumn. I will try to find good links to Myers Briggs but I would bet you a tenner that you are an INFP, like me. The Myers Briggs scale measures your personality on 4 different scales -

Introvert / Extrovert (I/E)
Intuition / Sensing (N/S)
Feeling / Thinking (F/T)
Perceiving / Judging (P/J)

I must admit to getting a bit more towards the Judging side of the scale as I get older , but I am still (just) an INFP. I know what Avi is (ENTP), but I wouldn't like to guess all the rest of you. Be interested to know, though.

You usually have to pay to get the MBTI test done (some free ones online are really crap), but I like the Keirsey Temperament Sorter (I think it's still free?) and especially the descriptions of the different types here, partly because they are so positive . Here's the INFP (me), for instance. I hope you recognise my Joan of Arc qualities

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2007 14:03

Idris ISTJ? Is that the inspector? Whoa. You are a bit F-ish, though, aren't you? And a bit N-ish, too, I would say. Dp is an INTJ. We are so hopelessly incompatible it is funny. I too am at the far far end of introversion, which confuses people that know me. I have learnt to hide my introversion very well because it annoys me and stops me doing stuff I want to. But it also explains why I like spending time on the internet so much - perfect social activity for introverts.

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2007 14:07

Right I am going to guess FMF

she is an E for sure - Extrovert
I think an S? - Sensing
I am pretty sure F - Feeling
and P - Perceiving

ESFP - what's that? the Performer LOL I got it right, I reckon

IdrisTheDragon · 18/09/2007 14:17

DH is probably an ENFP I think .

But we get on very well together (and I think have both moved nearer to each other's natural preferences, if that makes sense).

I am always going to be an I; maybe a little Nish, getting more Fish as I get older I think and will probably stay being a J I think.

They are all meant to be positive I think .
