For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Couldn't it be in Sweden? I love Sweden. All those lakes and forests and REAL snow - that's what you need in February.

Veg pie - chunks of carrot, onion, celery and the most divine potatoes in a sort of thickish veg stock sauce type thing. Completely scrumbly and devoured eagerly by all dcs although the pastry was rather formidable - was experimenting with a (curiously enough) Russian pastry recipe which uses oil and water.
(Georgia... is that where there is lots of granite? Capital Tbilisi? Or am I completely wrong. Near the black sea?)

Tatties · 16/09/2007 15:34

I don't think I could do the commune thing at all, I would find it very hard.

Lullabyloo, so glad to hear the parcel has brought you cheer It was a really lovely idea from the wonderful Franny. I do like your idea of Christmas swaps too LL.

Avi have you found something to knit on your hols yet? If you or anyone else who knits is interested, I have the One Skein book and I would be happy to copy and email/post any of the patterns from it.

FMV have you recovered from your trip yesterday? Hope all was well.

Not to go on about the age thing, but I really like having friends of different ages and I hate feeling dismissed on account of my age. And I suppose you can feel that however old you are.

TooTicky · 16/09/2007 15:50

I love having friends of different afes too. From a young age, I enjoyed the company of really quite old people down to my own age. I am always surprised when other people don't feel the same way. Perhaps it was something to do with being an only child? I think there is a great deal to be said for just treating people as people, regardless of age or anything else. I don't think strict adult/child roles are always helpful. Sorry, rambling.
Waiting for my sticky chocolate sauce pudding to cook. And some sort of banana/oat/raisin blob things.

IdrisTheDragon · 16/09/2007 15:50

Actually i think DH would love the commune and it would be me who would need the secret annexe somewhere .

filthymindedbolshevixen · 16/09/2007 16:49

Hi Tatties, yes, we had a lovely day - in spite of it all being a little too hearty and people saying ''oh you are looking well to MIL'' about a zillion times because they didn't know what else to say IFSWIM! (She was looking well actually )

Both my darling boys have turned into whining little wingebottoms for no apparant reason the past week. They are quite old but I think school really takes it out of them....

We have picked far too many blackberries today - which was fun but now I am expected to do something with them all

Feeling smug as the veg with tonight's roast is all homegrown!

I dunno Avi - I suppose I was thinking we'd need a large country house with outbuildings and grounds. And some money for any renovations.

I currently work in charity sector which is great as it fullfils my need to be working but it's a not for profit organisation and is very 'worthwhile'. Sadly, I'll never get rich working there

FMV, I throw blackberries and chopped apples into pancake batter. Good in cakes too.

The whole work thing is overcomplicated these days. I could really do with a job, for financial reasons, but can't bear to leave dd2. I don't really have any spare time anyway. But the money thing is a bugger.

filthymindedbolshevixen · 16/09/2007 17:02

you wouldn't have a recipe for a blackberry cake could you?
(I often make apple cake)

I was going to just bung some in cupcakes - will that work?
Have made and frozen a crumble and made some ice lollies.

If I have any batter left over from the yorkshire puds, was going to make some sweetened yorkshires with blackberries in the middle.

TooTicky · 16/09/2007 17:05

Yeah, bung in any cakes. I generally do:
4oz margarine
4oz sugar
8oz SR flour
soya milk
and whatever fruit I feel like adding.
Then I cook it at the only temp our oven seems to do

TooTicky · 16/09/2007 17:09

I have just seen there is a MNer called Toots. I feel slightly usurped.

TooTicky · 16/09/2007 19:31

I'm eating pasta with tomato, garlic, onion, celery and fennel sauce.

Where are you all?

BBBee · 16/09/2007 19:37

Hi TT

Yes tbilisi is the capital - don;t know about hte granite but you could easily be right I know embarrassingly little about it.

We had vegetable chilli - well there was a tiny bit of meat but have ben increasing the vegetables and decreasing the meat gradually for ages now so one pack of mincce does about 12 meals. Lots of lentils and pulses too - DP complains though.

when is franny back? I thought it was only a couple of days?

TooTicky · 16/09/2007 19:41

Didn't she say Monday?

TooTicky · 16/09/2007 19:42

We'd better start talking up the veg...

TooTicky · 16/09/2007 19:44

Do your dcs eat beans and lentils? Mine fuss. I can sneak whizzed lentils into soups and occasionally pasta sauces but that's about it.

BBBee · 16/09/2007 19:45

god yes...

2 apples
beans on toast for lunch (counts doesn;t it?)
tomato
onion
pepper
carrot
brown rice (doesn't count but is superfood and loads of B vitamins)

on god only made 7 again. I am so much worse now DCs are at school as I skip lunch and often breakast too.

Get me back on track someone.

BBBee · 16/09/2007 20:09

...have just eaten some dried apricots.

Boco · 16/09/2007 20:11

We picked millions of blackberries - the hedges were full. And then we scrumped some apples too - found a tree that was so full, and they were all rotting on the ground, so knocked on the door to see if we could do a swap, but no one home so we took some windfalls - and i made 2 big blackberry and apple crumbles, and had roast dinner - outside with brother and his girlfriend and was all sunny and lovely.

But i have very stung feet as i was not wearing appropriate footwear.

Boco · 16/09/2007 20:12

So um, blackberries, apples, peach, banana, carrots, peas, broccoli, lettuce, tomatoes. That's 9/10.

Carotte · 16/09/2007 20:24

Mine will eat beans, kidney, borlotti, cannelini and so but I wouldn't say they loved them. DD likes kidney beans best and ds is fond of beansprouts.

We had a lovely day at the hall, the textile show was amazing, ancient dresses and laceworks, jewellery and all kinds of crafts, spinning, falconry, basket weaving. The organic gardens were lovely too. We ate raspberries, not sure if we were meant to.

I got a dry felting set and some swatches of antique lace. I want to do a big mosaic thing for our dining room, something that we can all put squares of things on. Might look dreadful but it will be fun.

I've had ratatouille, bean salad, green beans, coleslaw, grapes, nectarine, banana, apple and raspberries.

FrayedKnot · 16/09/2007 20:25

Evening

Where is Franny? I can;t read down that far, I'm too lazy.

I've eaten lots of celery today. An apple, brocolli, and sweetcorn. Rubbish!

This week I am going to order a f&v box from a farm shop not far from here, and see how we get on.

I think I would be OK in the commune if I could choose who else lived there. I think that's probably not in the spirit, though, is it?

DH would loath it. DS would love it.

Carotte · 16/09/2007 20:26

and smoothie, so 10...

FrayedKnot · 16/09/2007 20:28

DS likes lnetils. LOVES lentils. He isn;t very keen on meat, tbh. We could go veggie.

DH would moan, though. IAnd we all love sausages.
