Feels like something is stuck in my throat

Help? I'm really fed up now. It's been 4 weeks of feeling like this. Literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. I tend to need to burp slot. I've been treated for acid reflux and it's still here and driving me mad. And to be honest really starting to worry me. Could it be hayfever? Though piriton is having no affect on me either. I've never had hayfever before but I have no other symptoms if it is.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance

That’s exactly how mine gets fuzzy when I swallow that’s how I described it to the consultant. Really think you need to be consistent with the meds no missed doses and hopefully it just needs time that’s what I’m hoping anyway

SpideyMom · 27/07/2020 19:33

Its like ive stopped making saliva. This is bloody horrible

I'm really suffering with the same thing. Tried a reflux diet for a bit, have given in and just had a massive glass of wine and it felt a bit better. But no doubt I'll regret that pretty soon. The default thinking seems to be reflux but I have no other symptoms of that so I feel your pain @SpideyMom. And for you @Autumn101 and @Proudnana3. It's a frightening symptom. I've had some burning tongue today too. And all my neck muscles feel so tight and sore, especially on one side. It's horrible! I have sympathy. My GP is also pushing it in to the long grass, though I'm waiting for an endoscopy (non routine apparently)

Proudnana3 · 27/07/2020 19:55

It defiantly sounds like LPR when I look back I had all the signs sore throat, chocking on my tea in the mornings, excess mucus and feeling breathless but didn’t really let it bother me just put it down to allergies. Reading all the nhs websites I know it will go but it takes diet changes and consistent meds for at least 3 months. It does say not to miss a single dose as it will make things worse

SpideyMom · 27/07/2020 20:31

Its awful isn't it. Its unbelievable how many people are feeling this way

What a nightmare Spidey, I really hoped you’d of got some more positive help today.......

Asterope - so sorry to hear you’re another one of us suffering! When mines bad I get the burning tongue feeling too and a pins and needles type tingling on my tongue, roof of mouth and down my throat. And it’s like my neck and jaw muscles are spasming, so uncomfortable.

I’ve booked an online consultation with a naturopath next week - they give diet and lifestyle advice and recommend any supplements which can help. I’ll let you all know of any tips xx

Asterope · 27/07/2020 20:41

That would be amazing, thank you @Autumn101 Thanks

SpideyMom · 27/07/2020 20:56

Fingers crossed for you autumn101.

Proudnana3 things seem to be improving for you abit?

Asteroid its bloody awful isnt it. Every damn day since March. Most days lately I find unbearable.

The volume of people feeling this though is crazy. 4 people I know contacted me yesterday to say either them or their partner was suffering with this too. Over the months I've come across so many others. I think, that in a way is helping me remain calm as so many people can't all be experiencing the same thing if its serious surely.

But today, bloody hell my mouth feels like the desert. Night time is the worst. It wakes me up

Have you considered Sjogren's syndrome? It can cause dry mouth/throat www.nhs.uk/conditions/sjogrens-syndrome/symptoms/

Asterope (autocorrect sorry)

No i will give that a read

I think I posted on this thread a while back giving advice. Well it seems I'm now back with similar symptoms! Before I only ever had heartburn or indigestion but now I don't seem to have either of those very often but do have a lump in throat feeling pretty much every day. It gets progressively worse as the day goes on. I'm hoping it's nothing serious as so many others have this too but damn it's annoying. I bought a wedge pillow to help with the reflux but maybe it's not worked. I've bought some gavisgon advanced. How often are you supposed to take it? After every meal or just when you start to feel symptoms? Might have a word with Dr tomorrow.

Proudnana3 · 27/07/2020 21:52

A glass of wine takes it away for me too, literally one glass and it’s gone but know it’s not doing good in the long run. I’m on holiday this week so having a drink but next week going to have nothing at all acidic and see how it goes. Some days are better than others, I also get the dryness but again that’s typical for reflux

Proudnana3 · 27/07/2020 21:56

Gaviscon advance should be taken 4 times every day after every meal and before you go to bed, important not to miss a dose and it has to be taken for at least a month. My doctor didn’t really know but that’s what the consultant said .

OhWhatAPalaver · 27/07/2020 21:59

Thanks @Proudnana3. Are you taking anything else with the gaviscon? I was put on a month of lansoprazole last time I had bad reflux but it seems to have only helped temporarily.

waterandlemonjuice · 27/07/2020 22:01

I posted this on another thread but here’s what I’m doing:

Hi OP. I’ve recently been diagnosed with silent reflux too and prescribed Gaviscon advance and a PPI. This below is what I’m doing, as well as taking the meds for now (it’s only been a month but at least I can eat again - I couldn’t swallow solid food at all) An ENT Surgeon diagnosed me, GP dismissed me over the phone so I’m glad I saw someone. I’m:

Losing weight
Cutting back on alcohol
Sleeping propped up (have a wedge pillow)
Eating at 6pm latest
Being tested for H Pylori, SIBO and thyroid
Low histamine diet
Various supplements
Trying to reduce stress
Drinking lots of water
Also keeping a food diary to see if theres a pattern

I saw a nutritionist who recommended the above tests, I can PM you if you’re interested.

My view is that although the PPI may help short term, I don’t want to take them long term and, anyway, I need to establish the root cause of the reflux and treat that in order to get off them. Good luck, it’s a horrible thing.

Proudnana3 · 27/07/2020 22:03

Yes I’m on lansoprazole twice daily he said it needs to be for at least 3 months and again not to miss a dose

waterandlemonjuice · 27/07/2020 22:06

Also this makes sense:

m.youtube.com/watch?v=ORY1cUB_k6M

I’ve given up coffee as it definitely makes it worse

OhWhatAPalaver · 27/07/2020 22:15

Thanks again @Proudnana3
@waterandlemonjuice I'm intregued to know what supplements you're taking. Do you take a probiotic?
I think I'll end up being referred to a consultant as well as it keeps recurring in various ways. Post nasal drip and lump in throat feeling are probably the worst symptoms at the moment. Also very dry mouth in the morning and slightly sore throat in the morning too. My thoat/neck almost feels achy sometimes. It's all very odd.

Asterope · 02/08/2020 20:39

Well, tonight I had a glass of wine after a week or so off. And for the first time in my life I felt a burning in my chest. The throat symptoms have never gone away though sometimes it feels better than other times. Also, my toddler pressed on my sternum tonight and it was sore! It's all making me so anxious. How are the rest of you getting on?

Proudnana3 · 03/08/2020 12:38

Have you seen an ent doctor yet Asterope ? My throat symptoms are still there but like you sometimes feel a lot better than others, I have been on holiday so have been drinking so know it won’t truly improve until I go totally acid free which I intend to do next week when I am back working. I’ve never had any other symptoms other than in the throat but thinking back now it has bee brewing for a while

Asterope · 03/08/2020 13:00

@Proudnana3 I'm still waiting on a referral. I've bought the acid watchers diet and am going to try it. The sense of chest burning is new, I never had it before. Glad you had a nice holiday!

Proudnana3 · 03/08/2020 15:15

I would take the gaviscon advance whilst you’re waiting it couldn’t hurt. Everything I’ve read says it takes 2/3 months to heal so I guess it’s just a case of meds, diet changes and time. I know mine was set off by stress and anxiety , I also woke up a couple of times with burning in my nasal passage which I just assumed was allergies but was obviously the reflux so that just shows how high it comes up.

SpideyMom · 04/08/2020 21:10

Just checking it. I was okish yesterday and most of today. I was so busy I never had time to overthink it. Now its horrible

OP posts:
OhWhatAPalaver · 04/08/2020 22:09

Does anyone get a sore throat with this? Like an ache almost. Not like your usual "cold' sore throat. Worse when swallowing.
I've been on the gaviscon for a week now and it has helped a bit with the lump in throat thing but my throat feels more sore today than it has done. I was given omeprazole from the gp today, which I start taking tomorrow. Hoping it'll improve.
I'm wondering whether to ask to physically see the gp as I'm worried its some more sinister but that's probably just my ridiculous anxious brain 😣
