Feels like something is stuck in my throat

Help? I'm really fed up now. It's been 4 weeks of feeling like this. Literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. I tend to need to burp slot. I've been treated for acid reflux and it's still here and driving me mad. And to be honest really starting to worry me. Could it be hayfever? Though piriton is having no affect on me either. I've never had hayfever before but I have no other symptoms if it is.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance

With you Spidey, mines been bloody awful last few day’s and I’m starting to get angry now! What else can we do?! It’s so uncomfy and just not taken seriously.......... The pain has spread up my jaw and right up to my cheekbones today.

SpideyMom · 20/07/2020 13:08

autumn101 oh god that sounds awful. I can honestly say any discomfort I have been in has been really rare considering how long this has been going on for. If I was in pain with it too I'd be beside myself.
Maybe i felt better after being sick because in my head it was able to clear that feeling of something being there (I know there isnt) but the fact i felt nothing just made me feel like I had cleared it. Im trying to find the best way to describe it. Its like my throat has narrowed and there is like a film covering the back. When i swallow the feeling is lower than where i can see. But its like there is a film covering my throat. When I swallow its like there's skin flapping about

I think as well when you were being sick the muscles in you’re throat would have been reacting differently so therefore not giving you the feeling just like when you eat. I’m on my fourth bottle of gaviscon now. I spoke to the doctor earlier and he said I have been diagnosed with LPR by consultant so with the meds and a few diet changes I should feel better in a month or two. The only diet advice was don’t eat curry late and then go straight to bed, and that was after I asked. 🤞mine has felt better last coupe of days, not perfect but heres to hoping. Have you raised you’re bed yet or tried the wedge pillow?

SpideyMom · 20/07/2020 16:27

I sleep on 2 very full pillows so I am propped up yet.

I'm just so tired of it today

Proudnana3 · 20/07/2020 17:08

I was told pillows won’t do it as you have to raise you’re chest as well so you need to either put a wedge under the head of you’re bed or use a wedge pillow. I almost sleep upright at the moment but do think it helping

Autumn101 · 20/07/2020 17:25

I’ve seen the wedge pillows advertised and glad to hear it’s helping. My youngest DC often sleeps with me (especially atm as it’s all a bit strange!) so I’d not tried one but maybe I should.......

Proudnana3 · 20/07/2020 17:41

I wanted to raise the head of the bed but my husband didn’t like the idea so I invested in the pillow, I find it really comfy and although i still feel it I don’t think it’s as bad. I even had a few glasses of wine over the weekend which doesn’t seem to of effected it either way I’m glad to say.

SpideyMom · 20/07/2020 20:30

I'm glad you are getting relief.

I will look at the proper wedges then. I thought a few pillows would be good enough

@SpideyMom, I havent read it all but I had gloves syndrome as did my friend who had it worse, her doctor was not sympathetic at all and privately suggested raw milk I think, anyway mine felt like a ball of hair or gravel, and was relieved by eating but shit after, but a friend did light hypnotherapy on me, I would never ever ever believe in that kind if stuff ever but honestly worked, I do get anxiety to, its returned once mildly, that's of course if you are suffering from that, hope it is sorted soon

Aubrey1981 · 22/07/2020 01:06

I have had this over the years and it was Globus. I had all the tests done at ENT and received the diagnosis in 2011. For me, it was stress related. It started 10 years ago and bothered me a lot when I realised it was anxiety related (I have severe OCD) but manage to work ,keep family functioning etc with strong anti depressants and sleeping aids I should add. However I had to force myself to think positively which was very hard but is the only way to change mindset and diffuse stress. Several bouts of CBT but as I’ve got older I’ve realised I have to control my MH myself and work on it every day. Globes barely crops up now as I have a hold on the other stuff. It’s a vicious circle definitely but i found accepting it was here to stay and I could limit how much it ruined my life was the way I got through. Sorry you’re struggling x

SpideyMom · 22/07/2020 08:36

I feel I'm on a downward spiral at the moment. It's consuming me. I wake up with it and I eventually to sleep with it on the night. It feels like I'm constantly being choked. Im shattered too which probably isn't helping the way I feel

I really think you need to ask you’re doctor for something like the low dose Amitriptyline it will help you sleep and is also a muscle relaxant so should help with the Globus. Did you’re doctor say it was more to do with Globus than reflux? I read a good article on the nhs website about LPR and it does say be patient as the meds can take 2/3 months to work but if yours is mainly Globus through anxiety you may need a little help with other meds. My results never mentioned Globus just moderate inflammation from lpr so think I just need to stick with the meds and low acid diet for a while.

Some questions

Are you underweight?
Have you and / or do you suffer from an eating disorder?
Do you have any fear foods?

Atadaddicted · 22/07/2020 10:41

I suspect OP it all comes does to

* I have bad health anxiety*

And the lump is psychosomatic

SpideyMom · 22/07/2020 13:42

My doctor has refused to give anything else. Just to continue with Gaviscon Advanced and has given me details of the wellbeing helpline.
I'm currently sat at my desk and I want to be sick. I do have pain today right down to my belly button. But the feeling in my throat is taking my breath away.

I am within my BMI. I have suffered with anorexia i my teens, and struggled with binge eating disorder from my early 20s and still do. Ive always managed to keep a 'healthy' weight somehow but I think its because I fast and binge. I wouldnt say i fear food no.

But today it feels like i have tons of hair trapped, and with the pain going down its unbearable. I havent had the pain before like this. Its horrible.

Yes the consultant said mine was more of the globus side but he did see signs of reflux.

I havent ruled out anxiety. Its very possible. In fact the worse I feel by the day the more likely it is becoming. Now I have the pain though its making me cry. I feel so uncomfortable

Are you still taking the lansoperazole as well?

SpideyMom · 22/07/2020 16:05

I ran out last week and the doctor wouldn't give me anymore.
I literally had to beg for it today, but going to collect it after work

OP posts:
Proudnana3 · 22/07/2020 16:25

Not very helpful, I was told it needs 3 months of treatment and the gaviscon advance but as I said I’m being treated for lpr. My doctor didn’t seem to know to much about it but was happy to prescribe it as that’s what the consultant had put in the notes. If you read the nhs website it says even one missed day of ppi’s can cause more damage to the throat so it’s really important you continue the treatment until it’s resolved, have you been taking the gaviscon every day after every meal too as if you haven’t that could be why you’re symptoms are worsening

Atadaddicted · 22/07/2020 17:17

Op

Given you’re last posts I’d put money on it being anxiety.
And linked to your Ongoing eating disorder

Proudnana3 · 22/07/2020 17:34

I think so too as if they thought it was reflux causing you’re symptoms I think they would have prescribed you longer meds, it seems they didn’t even give you enough for the month

SpideyMom · 22/07/2020 17:55

I've been given another 1 month course only one a day though. A doctor before has said one isn't enough. But i have been on a combination of lansoperazole and omperazole since April

OP posts:
Proudnana3 · 22/07/2020 18:27

24 hour protection I was told, so yes two a day along with the gaviscon advance

SpideyMom · 22/07/2020 20:20

I thought so

How’s it going today Spidey?

I’ve hit a bit of a wall with what I can cope with and just can’t stop crying. We registered with a GP last week so I had a phone consultation this morning and she was so dismissive and just repeated the standard advice of - don’t eat spicy food and limit alcohol. I tried to explain I’ve been doing that for 3 months and still feel awful but she said there was nothing else she could do......

My neck and jaw are agony today, paracetamol or ibuprofen don’t do anything.

I don’t know where else to turn, I’m so rundown and fed up and scared this will last forever!
