For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Ignoring all these squashy antipodean men that I have never heard of...

Avi, I make non-hydrogenated dumplings:
8oz wholemeal SR flour
4oz non-hydrog, vegan margarine (Pure or Suma or Biona or Vitaquell or something - but Vitaquell smells odd)
dried herbs to taste
Rub marge into flour, mix in herbs, mix to dumpling consistency with cold water, make balls and throw in yummy veg stew

Hello to everybody

TooTicky · 10/09/2007 22:55

Oh and 100x, that is completely shocking. Your poor ds2! Give them hell - this is serious. I expect to hear you from here.

nappyneeds · 11/09/2007 00:29

Am I allowed to remain if I don't like Owen WIlson?

IdrisTheDragon · 11/09/2007 07:04

Can I stay if I don't know who Owen Wilson is?

I am over excited - DD didn't wake up in the night .

ernest · 11/09/2007 07:34

I'm under excited as my ds3 woke twice in the night and both times I had to go to him as dh reckoned 'there was no point' in him going, as he just wants me anyway and I've got a very rare stinking cold with sinus pain all over the front of my face and a really tickly cough, so both times it took me forever to unblock my noce, de tickle my throat, and get back to slepp. In fact the 2nd time I didn't get back to sleep so have been up fuming since 6.10.

Then he took exception to me calling him a selfish lazy ar**hole, and has gone off to work in a huff. And it's an INSET day today, so I've got all 3 boys expecting and exciting trip and I feel like death and have no idea what to do with them

Phew. big moan. sorry

ernest · 11/09/2007 07:35

sorry Idris, did also mean to add congrats on the sleeping through. That is a wonderful feeling isn't it?

IdrisTheDragon · 11/09/2007 07:43

Urgh ernest - that sounds very not good. I also have the thing of a DD who generally only wants me in the night - DH will go to her but the calls of "No Daddy - I want Muuuuuuuumy" rather disturb sleep anyway .

And DH is away so I had the bed all to myself. Just need to work on when I go to bed and I will get more sleep .

Are you in Switzerland?

IdrisTheDragon · 11/09/2007 07:44

I think I may be getting there with DDs sleep (she will be 2 next week and has slept through very rarely). Bottle is being replaced by "big girl beaker" which does seem to be having an effect.

ernest · 11/09/2007 07:47

Yes, I am indeed there. Are you going to give me a fab, effortless day trip tip?? (hopeful emotikon)

IdrisTheDragon · 11/09/2007 07:49

Sadly no - I was really just trying to remember who was where. Would quite like to be in Switzerland but that's not much help really is it?

ernest · 11/09/2007 07:55

I suppose not, where are you then?

IdrisTheDragon · 11/09/2007 08:02

We're in Bedfordshire .

I am trying to think of good day trips, honestly for Switzerland honoestly .

FrannyandZooey · 11/09/2007 08:26

LOL at "Welcome nappyneeds. We don't really like fruit and veg. Do you like Owen Wilson?"

at my enthusiasm for OW last night.

F&Z, your tip for the day made me PMSL

yes, sweet corn should be eaten very fresh, I think I had some that was already starting to go off/ferment (isn't the base for bourbon whiskey?) and - as i haven't had alcohol in two and a half years (pre-conception/pregnancy and now breast feeding) I had hoped I might feel mildly tiddly on it, but alas not.

i have done lots due to non MNetting but am vvv stressed right now so MNet preferable distraction to chewing what's left of my nails.

I love plums at this time of year, the proper English non-airfreighted-from-Peru ones. I think I'll plant a plum tree over DS's placenta.

I know this thread isn't about weight loss but being healthy, yet since I've been keeping an eye on fruit & veg intake, I have definitely toned up. Am and especially as i haven't yet managed to ditch the cake habit.

Avi, maybe if nursery is only for 4 hours or so the interaction with other kids outweighs the less positive aspects of the place, like trying to make them read so early. You're not taught to read until age 7 in Finland yet by teenagehood their literacy rates are better than ours.

on that piece of useless info...

ahundredtimes · 11/09/2007 08:54

I think Owen Wilson is sexy, in a way that surprises me. Like being attracted to your friends' brother and not knowing it for years. I can't account for it, but yes, he is sexy. I think it's because he is so loose-limbed.

I see how MN works now. This is great. You have a head-rush of fury, you post of MN, everyone is nice to you, then the next morning you are all sorted out and your dh doesn't hate you or think you are unbalanced. Cheers, everyone. Sorry, I was a little teensy bit angry wasn't I?

Am talking to head of Lower School today.

Okay, I must work. Haven't eaten yet. Atonement - good but sort of unfulfilling. Not sure why.

AllGonePossum · 11/09/2007 09:13

yes 100x, give 'em hell
[steely scary mummy emoticion]

FrannyandZooey · 11/09/2007 09:24

OMG my tip of the day LOL

I did it to enter a competition, glad you like it

I keep having whole minutes where I am not thinking about Owen Wilson, but now 100 has said "loose-limbed". Unggggh.

FrannyandZooey · 11/09/2007 09:25

Good luck 100. Try not to rip any heads off.

MrsCarota · 11/09/2007 09:33

yes, I'm imagining OW doing this kind of hypermobile sprint across a beach and looking a bit like a crab.

100x - do you work from home as well then? Everyone else seems to have mastered this skill except me. My neighbour said I was an Alpha mummy this morning. I can't imagine anything about me that might make me an alpha mummy.

I am having a berry almond and linseed smoothie and marmite on Caraway toast.

lionheart · 11/09/2007 09:34

Let me help you with that, Franny.

ernest · 11/09/2007 09:40

100x can't wait to hear how you get on. Good luck

Overrun · 11/09/2007 10:31

Hi all. 10/10 club is going well this weeks o far. I am scoffing down pears, plums, clementines, apples and bananas. Its still hot enough for lovely watercress and herby salads.
Still stewing about not being able to go swimming in the mornings when dts are at clych, as I have to be on stand by to rush over and change their dirty botties at any time
