I know this has been covered before but it was before my time on mumsnet. At the risk of boring people, yes or no to the MMR jab?

susanmt - folk music? That really is the last straw..... next you'll be saying you like Celine Dion (only joking!) (PS: that is not a pop at anyone who likes Celine Dion either by the way)(Not that I do) (Think I should shut up now).

Aloha - don't go.

Croppy · 09/09/2002 10:40

Havem't read all this, but ypuk, you say that 99% of SIDS is vaccination related. If so, why has SIDS Declined so much in teh past few years?

SueDonim · 09/09/2002 11:16

Aloha, Rhosyn and others, please don't all get your coats, it would such a loss to Mumsnet. Whatever my views on any given subject, I really appreciate all your contributions.

tigermoth · 09/09/2002 12:26

won't have time to read this thread till later, but can see the discussion is heated, just from reading the list in front of me. Amazing how much you can glean from first sentences sometimes.
Echo suedonim's point - please don't go anyone.

TVWoman · 09/09/2002 12:30

Wow! This got quite attacking on a personal level didn't it?

As I've not been reading over the weekend there are quite a few comments since my last one but just wanted to say - yes, when I said vaccination I did mean the anti-malaria tablet, but the gist of my comment is still the same.

hmb · 09/09/2002 17:13

I have taken the malaria tablets, and they didn't sent me mad........well not so that anyone would notice

aloha - COME BACK IMMEDIATELY!!!! I was thinking of you as I was slobbing in front of the telly this evening!

Jasper · 09/09/2002 21:02

Aloha, get back here at once!

I always make a point of reading your posts.

I so often agree with what you say that I don't bother posting myself as you are far more eloquent.
That bit about some folk being paranoid enough to think scientist were out to poison our children for fun and money was brilliant.

Don't take offence at RobinW - she's a pussycat!
She doesn't just hate journalists - don't get her started on doctors, dentists or teachers !
(RobinW don't you DARE take offence )

Tinker · 09/09/2002 21:37

aloha - we're waiting!!!!

And RobinW - not taking sides cos I think you're fab as well!

ionesmum · 09/09/2002 21:45

Oh, don't go anyone!

haven't read all this through but re. SIDS and vaccination, I contacted the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (I think that's right) and they said that vaccination reduces the incidence of cot death. Their advice (which isn't partial in any way) was one of the factors in me deciding to get dd vaccinated. However, I'm still not sure about the MMR, haven't had to go through that yet.

For all those who have expressed their good wishes and love re: my dd and her MMR jab yesterday, thought I would give an update!
She was in good health yesterday so decided with dh to go ahead with it - he came too for a nit of support, bless him.
She was fine - JoPat - my dd was the same as your child as she didn?t even notice either. I was amazed at this as she has screamed at all previous injections. Apart from an out of character screaming fit in the middle of the night followed by a very dirty and smelly nappy, she has been fine. Fingers crossed that she will sail through it all...no black circles under eyes yet and her eyes are their usual sparkly selves right now!!
Thanks again for your support and thoughts (particularly JoPat , LOL)

My g.p. pointed out that dd is more at risk in the car to and from his surgery than she is from being vaccinated.

JoPat · 10/09/2002 19:55

JayTree, fabulous to hear dd doing so well. Was thinking about you all of you yesterday.

My dd is great, she is back to normal, tiring self. Can hardly keep up. (Especially after plumbing disaster on Monday morning [3:45am to be exact])

Take care.

mears · 11/09/2002 00:21

Can I make a plea to all mumsnetters old and new? If a new member comes to the boards and asks about the benefits or not of MMR we all agree not to go there
The subject is so contentious you will not get an answer.
Let this be the end of the matter.
By the way - smallpox is alive and kicking in ER. What will happen to Carter and Abby - can't wait

WideWebWitch · 11/09/2002 00:31

Mears, we could direct them to the 10 million threads on the subject instead. I'll agree to post the links if I'm about

jasper · 11/09/2002 00:50

when I was new to mumsnet one of my first postings was along the lines of "has anyone heard of an author called Gina Ford"....
If only I'd known....

jasper · 11/09/2002 00:52

...or how about we all reiterate our views on smacking......no, please, I'm kidding

hmb · 11/09/2002 07:10

So if we had a thread about a mad MIL, who thinks we should smack our kids with a copy of a GF book, who is complaining of a rash, who has come to visit when we decide if we should vaccinate our kids, that would be a bit of a no-no?

bossykate · 11/09/2002 07:15

and by the way the mad MIL would not like us working, or putting the kids into nursery...

hmb · 11/09/2002 07:35

And we are just not good enough for her darling son, who's ex was so much more maternal/beautiful/intelegent than we are......
and we were too old when we had the kids.

Joe1 · 11/09/2002 08:18

And she has facial hair.
