For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Hello all

God this thread moves so fast I cannot keep up either

am exhausted, about to crash out, but thought i'd check in with you all. Party seemed to be a great success, a giraffe bouncy castle with slide went down a treat, as did the decorating and icing biscuits and purple b'day cake, so at least the work was worthwhile.

Possum how is DS doing with the poos? The potty training seems to have clicked with DD after 9 weeks of trying - hurrah! However when she besmirched my curtains, she had climbed over te chair in the bay window to stroke the cat and sat on the windowsill on top of the curtains, so no gravity defying required.

Today have had tomatoes, carrots, cucumber, red pepper gazpacho, grapes, chickpea and potato curry, nectarine. plus lots of cake.

F&Z, please send the details for bulk cooking to me - thanks.

FrannyandZooey · 26/08/2007 22:19

Oh dear I keep hassling Possum about the meet up. Has she already said to stop asking her about it? sorry

Possum (and 100 [stern look]) the government advice to eat 5 a day is really not what nutrionists advise at all. The gov. keep it down to 5 because they think it is achievable for more people and that any more would scare people off In other countries advice ranges from a minimum of 6 to 17 in Japan. 10 is perfectly doable, so less of the defeatist talk Miss 100. And yes as you will see I took you at your word (I did think you were joking but I have called your bluff ). My fascinating thoughts about freezer bags are on their way to you right now.

LL I used to live where you just went! Dreadful place isn't it? I am really embarrassed to send you my crap bulk cooking ideas LL as you are such a talented cook. Not to say everyone else on here isn't, of course, but you know what I mean...

Will do wombling

FrannyandZooey · 26/08/2007 22:22

Oh and about the nutrients thing, freezing the food does not affect the nutrients, it is a good way to preserve nutrients AFAIK. Obviously reheating food will have an effect, but I don't find it practical to cook food from scratch every day, so I would always be reheating anyway.

The meet up - hmmmm, I have presumed it will be after I'm back at work full time and I have no idea what life will look like then so am sitting on the fence. maybe franny you could be kind enough to email me details and I'll see how things go.
also Aviatrix, i want to ask you something about EC, would you mind emailing me too? As A) this thread is about fruit & veg and B) EC tends to get a lot of jeering on Mnet so I'd rather talk it over in private
threadbarepossum AT yahoo DOT co DOT uk
Many thanks

whompingwillowinthedewmeadow · 26/08/2007 22:29

franny - will you email your bullk cooking to me? dew at farmersweekly dot net

Ta!

Hello to all 10/10 ers! Have read your vegetably dribblings but too tired to join in atm. Middling day today - banana, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, pepper, mushrooms, beetroot, grapes, melon, with some double portions, but no exercise, plus some naughty food!

17!!!!

FrannyandZooey · 26/08/2007 22:32

[butting in] Oh I think it's a shame not to talk about something on here because you feel people might laugh I do understand of course that we have subjects we feel sensitive about, but so many people lurk here for information, EC is relatively unheard of, and talking about 'odd' things can make them seem less scary and weird to people who didn't know about them.

Don't censor yourself because "this thread is about fruit and veg". My god it would be dull if that was all we talked about. And short. God it would be short

whompingwillowinthedewmeadow · 26/08/2007 22:36

the reason I am attracted to(but not in the biblical sense ) to this thread is because of the non veg bolloxy talk!! Its great!

FrannyandZooey · 26/08/2007 22:39

Precisely. I sometimes think this thread is the last stronghold of lentilliness on MN (all non lentil types v welcome and much beloved as well, of course, but you know what I mean)

if we can't talk about EC on here then where can we?

Aviatrix, have sent you a burbling email.
Franny, thanks for your emails - crikey, I can see how at first bulk cooking seems complicated but once you get your head around it, i can see how it saves time. Very clever, making base sauces then branching out from there - my 'going back to work head' is lurching into action

ahundredtimes · 26/08/2007 23:03

And what's AP?

I think as non-lentil weaver amongst you, this is ABSOLUTELY the place to have the conversation. Nobody ever gets flamed in 10/10 is a sanctuary of open-minded kindness in my experience.

I ask questions sometimes, but then I bow. Like this

is all very friendly.

whompingwillowinthedewmeadow · 26/08/2007 23:04

thanks franny

wow! (re EC) do some people on here do that? thats amazing! Its not for me but Im interested in hearing about others experiences. When you have a baby, people seem to think they have the right to impose their values and beliefs on to you, which is unnecesssary pressure and total bollox.

whompingwillowinthedewmeadow · 26/08/2007 23:07

time for bed - going to open farm to have a picnic to morrow (weather permitting)

ahundredtimes · 26/08/2007 23:10

We're going to go river swimming tomorrow. Am most excited. I LOVE freshwater swimming, it is my favourite thing.

I used to do lots of swimming in lakes and things, and then the Guardian had this whole supplement about in on Saturday. Have located nearby friendly river. Am a bit worried about dcs in the river, but we'll see how it goes.

Ok, so my first day as a 10/10er and I realise I eat far less fruit and veg than I thought.

Anyway, should I report back? Do I need to get my book stamped?

Glass of orange juice
2 large tomatoes
about 20 cherries
Veg and lentil bake (am counting conservatively as 2 portions)
Banana
2 carrots
(and getting all that in took alot of effort on my part - being wholesome does not come naturally to me).

I did a good hour of football this evening.

See, before when I just aimed for plain old 5 a day I got to feel virtuous most of the time.........

Not anymore!

ahundredtimes · 26/08/2007 23:17

Thanks Avi. This is my SIL, I am learning a lot from her actually.

Thanks for the email Franny. I think it all looks very promising actually. I may need to email you for some recipes.

I sound like I'm on best behaviour don't I? lol.

BBBee · 26/08/2007 23:19

tatties I never made your curry as we had a last minute going out thing but all the ingredients are now languishing in my fridgdaire.

my children have only just gone to sleep and school starts soon.

no-one jumped at my maisy snakes and ladders so off to post on the huge sprawling mumsnet.

where are you sourcing your greengages?

BBBee · 26/08/2007 23:21

jemermy - you have done better than all the regulars but htat means you have to go in a tent with franny or something for a special award.
