For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

am getting rid of maisy floor size snakes and ladders if anyone wants it - will go mumsnet wide if no-one on here bites.

It is free
Free P&P too

Even if you get it play it once and throw it away you have nothing to lose.

BBBee · 26/08/2007 20:19

in sainsburys I bought some edamame (soya beans) in the frozen bit - they are great - 3mins in the microwave - rinse with cold water. Me and the children ate a bag of them whilst child of a time was on - DS said they were a bit like crisps - they are not - he is a loon - but they are very nice and count towards 10/10 and might have those phytoestrogen fighting breast cancer things in them too.

Hello, can I join you? I have seen the 10/10 posts on active conversations but never realised what it meant; having read the thread I think it applies to me. I have recently been trying to apply draconian new year's resolutions a bit too late, this sounds a bit more realistic. and i love the reference to withnail and I.
BBBee -- you might be right about craving beetroot for a nutritional reaosn. When i lost a lot of blood after a mc a few years ago, my dr told me to eat loads of beetroot to build up the iron in my system.
I've been for a walk on the beach, and eaten raisins (in homemade oatmeal raisin cookies), tomatoes, cranberries, blueberries, chickpeas (do they count?), and apparently I'll have to go get a snack to fit in the last 4! or wait, does it have to be 10 different f & g or can they be double servings?

FrannyandZooey · 26/08/2007 21:08

Hi Oregonian

We kind of make our own rules up here. I think it's fine to have 4 apples one day and count them as 4 portions. Obviously variety through the week is best, and we did have a thing for a while where some of us were trying to eat 24 natural foods every day (was it 24? I have forgotten), but the most important thing is to just eat the 10 portions.

I've emailed anyone who expressed the vaguest interest in bulk cooking, sorry

Hoorah for everyone [too lazy to name individual posters emoticon]

You're too quick. I can't keep up

100x I am very of your kitchen sofa

Franny please can I have your bulk cooking guide. I do freeze leftovers sometimes but my problems is eating the frozen stuff. I tend to think 'oh lovely, the freezer's full of home cooked food' and then don't eat it or there'll be none left

PMSLOL at Jeremy Fisher drinking gin and sneering

Today I have had raisins, kiwi, avocado, cucumber, tomato, olives, beetroot, 1/2 banana, peppers (couldn't believe half a pepper is a portion!!) onion, orange juice. And a Magnum

FrannyandZooey · 26/08/2007 21:16

PSW will do

I am not sure it is a guide as such

it is some notes I jotted down when I had half an hour earlier

people will be calling it A Document next

Welcome Oregonian.

I have a feeling I'm doing well on the fruit front, but not so well with the vegetables. I need to think about this.

I think we should have a Super Foods week. What are super foods? Let's decide and eat them for a week.

ahundredtimes · 26/08/2007 21:17

Am I getting this Document franny? I bet you haven't emailed it to me. I bet you thought I wasn't being serious with my soup remarks and all.

ahundredtimes · 26/08/2007 21:19

PSW. The kitchen sofa is indeed a source of joy to me, but is about 350 years old and dh and I bought it when we first married in a sale from somewhere. It is not a thing of beauty, but is in the kitchen and therefore beautious to me.

I also have an Aga. I don't know if this very covetable. It was here when we moved in, I have mixed feelings about it.

NotReallyHerePossum · 26/08/2007 21:20

plums, plums & more plums, grapes, celery, avocado, onion
I',m not sure what I'm doing wrong, I just don't seem to manage the 10. At least this thread is making me realise I'm falling short, otherwise I'd feel complacently healthy-ish.
Franny, I'd appreciate your bulk cooking guide,

Does the nutritional value alter in food that is frozen and then reheated?

Lullabyloo · 26/08/2007 21:23

hello chaps
[knackered emoticon]
Been to the god forsaken land of Bognor (aplogies to those dwelling there) to visit m in law.......looooooong day, horrid amount of time travelling.
However,ds did get a run on the beach,a ride on the noddy train ,blew out cake candles & eat a slice of chocolate beetroot cake so in his eyes not too bad a day

have had cherries,peaches,lychees,mango,passionfruit
tuscan bean soup, several dried fruit & nut squares & roast vegetables/cous cous & avocado salad....may have to eat more fruit.......

great title

NotReallyHerePossum · 26/08/2007 21:24

could anyone give me tips about cooking with seaweed? I like samphire but apart from that, whenever I've tried to use seaweed in dishes it has been totally gag-worthy, to the point we have to chuck the lot in the rubbish.
is seaweed a superfood or is that algae I'm thinking of?

Lullabyloo · 26/08/2007 21:25

franny.....i must must must have said document

NotReallyHerePossum · 26/08/2007 21:25

LL, nice to hear from you

Lullabyloo · 26/08/2007 21:27

possum....kombu is good in bean & pulse dishes...dont eat it ,just cook a strip with the dish so it releases is nutrients & makes beans etc far more easily digestible
nori is good for sushi..or just toasted to nibble on
you can buy bags of seaweed toasted sprinkles to use as seasoning

ahundredtimes · 26/08/2007 21:28

I know. Franny should have The Document printed up on her t-shirt for the meet up. Everyone can look at it then.

LL - hurrah. You're back. How are things?

Possum You do realize that 5 portions a day is perfectly acceptable. 10 is the insane challenge of this thread, it does not mean you are unhealthy.

pinkspottywellies · 26/08/2007 21:28

100x my teeny-tiny kitchen was the compromise as we loved the rest of the house so much but I have 1 food cupboard, 1 pan cupboard, 1 drawer and a freezer and microwave in the garage. I long for a kitchen big enough for a big side by side fridge freezer and a sofa [dreamy emoticon]

Lullabyloo · 26/08/2007 21:32

at huge kitchens
I want want want a biiiiiiiig farmouse kitchen with an enormous table....we cant even fit a teeny table into ours

Ahem >none of this 5 business...it's 10

Lullabyloo · 26/08/2007 21:33

things are the same
i'm trying to be hugely positive & hoping that silence from consultant = good news

NotReallyHerePossum · 26/08/2007 21:34

thanks LL, will have another go with the sea vegetable thing
100x is that so? I tend to take things very literally, especially when the likes of Franny post that they have had 16 portions of F&V in a day - makes 10 seem achievable for us mere mortals.

pinkspottywellies · 26/08/2007 21:38

We're going to have to have a new thread twice a week at this rate! There's an awful lot of chat considering we're just meant to be eating veg
