For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Thank you for details Franny, will answer tonight when speak to dp about whether he'll come or not.

Still have toothache, i need to go to the dentist but i really hate it and i'm hoping it'll miraculously go away. It's making me very short tempered.

I put a picture of dp and dd2 at the rare pig place on my profile. I swing between deciding to get rid of profile and be more private - and deciding to upload my entire family. I like this picture though.

Am sseeing the consultant on Saturday...i wish they didn't leave me hanging about so much.

Have had chunky veg soup, onions, garlic, carrot, sweet potato, celery, baby turnips, broad beans, tomatoes, parsley, thyme with orzo & lots of pesto

going to make shitake mushroom risotto for supper

  1. Settle down with a cuppa, as this is long. Sorry! It was sheer luck. He had been very odd for a couple of days, high temp, lethargic, NO other symptoms. I called GP to house (which I have never done before) as he was really too ill to bundle up and go anywhere. It was the absolute 'blankness' of him which freaked me. He was a 4-yr-old boy and he had been lying in bed not watching tv, not wanting stories or toys or anything. And normally, he does not do Sitting Around GP said it was flu and to call if we were still concerned in the morning. He had also not eaten a thing. Not a morsel for days and I could smell peardrops. Overnight his back and neck sort of hunched up and he could not move. Nothing kept the temp down. I rang out of hours GP - they said calpol. dh and I just decided to take him to A&E and be arsey. As soon as they took his temp, they whizzed into action. He was sent for an x-ray to see if it was a neck or spinal injury (during which time I was nigh-on accused of having chucked him downstairs or something...) Then they slapped him straight on anti-bioatics BIG time. The next morning they did a lumbar puncture which was horrendous. poor child is still freaked by injections 5 years on!) And confirmed it was definitely meningococcal meningitis Then we settled down to wait.... He was in hospital in isolation for 10 days, then a further 4 days on the ward. My friend, who is a nurse at the hospital, came to see me and was told, privately, that he was probably not going to make it and to look after me... Meanwhile I had a bouncing one-year-old to look after as well, plus all the worry that he, or me or dh might also contract the illness. And he came through it all perfectly ok! Not a sausage! No deafness! Though we were all in shock for months afterwards. TBH, It was over a year before i could even read the M word without bursting into tears. The poor GP came and visited us in hospital and she was in tears. Apparently it is rare but possible for flu to 'mutate' into this if the child has been in contact with someone carrying the virus (which 6 out of 10 people do unknowingly and with no ill effect) as their immune system will not be up to dealing with the meninigitis bug.

We were very lucky. But we also trusted our instincts.

filthymindedvixen · 28/08/2007 16:44

oh! oh! I've booked my room...

Lullabyloo · 28/08/2007 16:52

lissie · 28/08/2007 16:55

filthymindedvixen · 28/08/2007 16:57

LL, it's long in the past now...

I love it that you're still creating such mouth-watering meals when you must be feeling so stressed and stretched! More power to you lovely Lullaby!

Lullabyloo · 28/08/2007 17:10

Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisie !!!!!!!!!
I'm ok lovely....havn't seen you for absolutely ages

ahundredtimes · 28/08/2007 17:11

God FMV that does sound horrible. I'm not surprised you cried whenever it was mentioned for months after. Am pleased to hear there were no dire consequences though.
(Am also reassured that your story confirms to me that when it's bad it's really, really bad and that we do indeed just have some nasty viral flu thing. So thank you for telling me, it's much appreciated.)

Apple, raspberries, red pepper, yellow pepper, green beans, sweetcorn, plums.

You'll notice I'm spacing out the peppers according to colour, it makes me feel better.

Lullabyloo · 28/08/2007 17:11

fmv....i will have my cafe one day....i will ...i will

Lullabyloo · 28/08/2007 17:11

lol 100x

are you ok?

ahundredtimes · 28/08/2007 17:15

Yes, completely chipper just tired thank you LL. How are you? You do seem to be doing such a lot.

Please also bear in mind, that ds's go through 'angry' stages sometimes, especially before starting the next 'phase' whether it's school or pre-school or nursery or whatever. Is a sort of developmental thing. He'll go to that Perfect Nursery and be very happy and stimulated and calm down a bit - I'm sure of it.

I want your mushroom risotto. I am attempting to make a pudding tonight - various and many fruits, creme fraiche and crushed ammaretto biscuits. It sounds delicious. ds2 and I will hoover it up and everyone else will say 'can't we have a cake?'

Lullabyloo · 28/08/2007 17:17

mmmmmmmm...sounds heavenly

TooTicky · 28/08/2007 18:18

Hello LL

100x - so glad she's better

We have done Bath and I am exhausted. However, we got £100 worth of shoes for £20 which is v. satisfying.
But does anybody know where in all of blasted heckdom I can buy small COTTON grey school trousers or just plain grey trousers that do not cost £18.75 per pair? Yes I would rather have completely ethical but there are financial limits.

filthymindedvixen · 28/08/2007 18:34

the whole world seems to be living in Bath or visiting Bath at the moment. I have a friend there but it's sooo far away from me

Lullabyloo · 28/08/2007 18:45

I lllllllllllooooooooovvvvvvvvveeeeee Bath...am v. of your visit Toot

Lullabyloo · 28/08/2007 18:46

Toot...M&S ones aren't too bad

ahundredtimes · 28/08/2007 19:20

Yes, it is the centre of the universe.

where are you buying these trousers that they cost so much? I think ethically sourced is going to be hard to do - M&S or a dreaded supermarket (which isn't Tesco)?

ahundredtimes · 28/08/2007 19:21

Oh hang on TT, sorry I just missed the bit where you said Cotton.

Hmm. That isn't easy.

filthymindedvixen · 28/08/2007 19:26

ahundredtimes · 28/08/2007 19:31

I found this - will it help?

ahundredtimes · 28/08/2007 19:32
